You mean the "Medieval_TD.exe" file? I had that problem, fixed it by uncompressing the download into a temporary directory and running the setup.exe in there. You can generally right click on it and select "Extract to <somedir>", at least I have two options for that with WinRAR and Powerachiver installed.

It seems pretty darn good so far. It has crashed once, but that could be due to overclocking - MoH crashed soon after. It's no big change, but the levels are bigger and the graphics look sharper. The biggest downer, and this is small, is that the sharper unit images show up the jumpiness and general lack of animation in the sprite based unit graphics.

You lucky bastard, how did you get into that?? I couldn't even apply.

I suppose you're not allowed to talk about it, so I take it you couldn't tell me when you can add AI soldiers to multiplayer battles, whether it be all the time, just in co-op, or whatever. You can't tell me that, right?

Has anyone else in Europe tried this? I saw it in my local Game and thought it sounded cool. I went to their website and downloaded the demo and thought it was awful.

You should make sure your getting an up to par 3DMark score and make sure you have the latest 4in1's installed. I have an XP2000, 1GB DDR and GF4 Ti4600 and I've been running it without any noticable slow down ever at 1024x768, max detail - I've never tried higher, for all I know it could run fine at 1280x1024 and higher..

Yeah, everything about Op-FP's multiplayer until you get into the game is terrible. Once you get into the game it's not so bad, although just an all out sniper battle.

On problem I see is getting enough players on servers. This game would need at least 40 for a real match and no one will be able to run that from their cable connection... Still, there's always Jolt.co.uk

Even then, it will be short on people as there are typically 10 people on a MoH server. The best way I can think of is to populate the game with ~100 AI soldiers. If the AI is good enough, that would solve the problem as best it can be solved without making it MMO. The preview does mention AI soldiers in passing, it doesn't say if they can act like normal players and be on a server with any number of clients. It does say the AI is patchy, but that's exactly the sort of thing that will be worked on from now til the release.

Damn, anon@172.182, I was going to say that.

This is my #1 will-buy-immediately game, even higher than Doom 3 due to much earlier release date. Looks wonderful, like Op-FP with good graphics, set in a time period which has always faciniated me, and released at a time where I'm on broadband.

ou can tell by looking at it what towns have silt striders

HOW??

Everyone says this and I can't for the life of my work out what on the map are silt striders!

<edit>That would be what those Silt Strider shaped things are, right? In my defense, they could be clearer</edit>

Also, what are the crosses in the water? Wreaks? There is a wreak near the one near Seyda Need...

I've got this problem occasioanlly before in Opera (currently 6.03 but it's happened with most recent versions). I guessed (but never checked) that it was a problem with missing table ending tags (</td>, </tr> or </table>) which, when missing in Opera with all it's standards following glory, tends to interpret as "don't display any of this table at all even though it's right at the end that it's missing". However, MSIE doesn't seem to have this rule so maybe it's something different..

Man, I can't believe some people are so gluttonous as to start eating the seats!! Unbelievable!

I quite agree. One seat I can understand, but more than 1? Pffft!

I love this game, but boy does it need a patch! I've one from the camp who believes the state of games on release today is disgraceful, so for me to complment this game as I could not do with H&D and such is no small gesture.

It does need a patch - I hope it stops the nasty sudden crash to desktop that I get quite a bit and removes the annoying bug where all speech boxes fail to display anything, losing even the exit box. This isn't so bad as you can hit quicksave, quit and reload the saved game and it's back.

Also, the framerates. Oh yes. Sure the graphics are great. On par with the top games today. However, the top games today don't run at 10FPS on my 1750Mhz Athlon XP with stacks of RAM and a Geforce 4 Ti4600. It does have a world much bigger than any other game I've played and while it's not in memory all at once, it will hurt framerates somewhat. Still, I should be able to up the view distance up to around full and still get over 30FPS pretty much all the time.

Yeah, I read that review and never even noticed it could be either. I suppose from the release date it has to be the PC version but they could have made it a lot clearer. Still, it's under the PC section of Blue's.

He also missed the astonishingly obvious fact that the pauses are because there is probably around a hundred square kilometers of detailed game world which isn't going to fit into anyone's RAM all at once.

Ahh, now we get down to the football stereotypes. Trouble in the stands? Alright, it happens a number of times in the 80's (but not as often as it's made out to have) when football fever was used by anti-Maggie Thatcherites as a political weapon. Since then, it's happened about as many times as you would expect when you get 40,000 people with differing opinions on something they all believe in *a lot*.

If fact, it happens a lot less that you'd think from that, and no more than it happens to other sports like Rugby. Oh, and what was the riot in Los Angles about a year or two ago? It's a long time since we've seen scenes like that!

anon@210.11, spot on mate.

WarPig[doh] - because football isn't about not looking like a big pussy. I hesitate to post this as it could be because of my general ignorance of north American sports, but they all seem so ego centered. Baseball, American Football, even hockey (wussy girls' sport here), they all have loads of big men trying to look big and strong to the point where it's pretentious patheticness. Few footballers need this to perform (defensive midfielders and central defenders excepted) and in my opinion football is a better sport for it.

Sadly, it means some players try to look like big pussies to get a referee decision in their favour. There are rules against it, but until recently, they only work if the ref sees the fake without the benifit of replays. Now FIFA, UEFA, the FA or whoever is governing the given competition are starting to hand out punishments based on replays, which I think Rivaldo is going to fall foul of. Of course, this begs the question "Why wasn't think done 20 years ago?!?!". Oh well.

Sorry to go on, but your post somewhat irked me by the basic assumption that a sports player must not look like a big pussy. I don't think they sure try to look wussy - I think it just shouldn't be an issue.

One of the things I like about football is that it's not all contact. No other large team sports are so open to small, weak, etc as football that I know of. Rugby, American Football, Ozzie rules* etc. In all of those, you need to be big, strong to succeed. Could you see Maradona playing American Football? He'd get slaughtered! Yet in Football, he's made so many headlines it's ridiculous (although most of them aren't much to do with football ) And I'm not saying that because I'm small or weak - I'm no giant but I'm big enough...

That said, there is contact. Watch Roy Keane play and you'll see contact a-plenty. It's a very simple, complicated game. To see it as a game where 22 people kick a ball works, you know what's happening, but the true beauty is lost on you. Only when you go outside after a match to try to recreate a Roberto Carlos circling free kick and break your shed window at the age of 10 do you appreciate football.

Also, it's not just about goals. It's a question of how much you understand it - and I don't just mean understand the rules. I sat glued to the TV and on the edge of my seat (which makes for uncomfortable view I can tell you (picture what I said )) watching Liverpool's UEFA cup run where there was 2 goals in 6 hours of football**, and one of those was a penalty. Boring? Not a second. Not to me.

I can watch baseball or American Football and find it mindnumbingly boring. That's because I don't understand the game. I have no doubt that if I knew the game and liked it enough to play it in my back garden, I wouldn't find it at all boring. Foot-Football is a higher plain to me. A rotten match where I can't kick the ball to save my life is better than pretty much any other activity in a way that I can't quite descibe.

* I don't know a whole lot about Ozzie rules and I could be talking crap here. If so, sorry.

** This is a special example of how few goals there can be. It's not a typical 6 hours of football so don't use it as such. The typical match has a goal scored roughly every 32 minutes, use that figure instead.

Less acting aside from Rivaldo. That was shocking, especially for someone of his talent (he shouldn't have got a penalty to take a few mins earlier either!). I can't see the Oscar Academy nominating him for Best Actor next year somehow.

Does the Olypics could as an "event"? I suppose it can be considered a larger sporting "thing" in general, although certainly not to me. I just wish the matches weren't at 9:00am or whenever here in BST.

Nice to see football getting a mention here, especially without that sickening bastardisation "soccer" being mentioned once. We rest-of-the-worldians prefer the word football. It is, after all, played with the foot (unlike, ah hem, other sports with a similarish name).
