Only another 8 weeks to wait for this one, if the 1.2 patch is anything to go by.

And where is the level editor?

Yup, Ananova's new is real, and generally serious. However, they do a good line in collecting the wierd and wonderful stories from around the world - they call them Quirkies, as you can see from the menu on the left.

Actually I hope CS lives on. If CS dies, the hack writters will go to the next big thing. While most of the n00bs and cheats use CS, the other games are relatively ass-free. However, BF1942 has a fair few n00bs, camping planes or teamkilling. I wish those losers would go back to CS.

I'm the other way around. I didn't really like the MP demo, but the SP demo was quite fun and I'd consider buying this. If I am assured that the AI will be improved. Now that is hidious in the SP demo, I swear they spent more time on AI in the MP demo!

If the AI can:
1) Attempt to take cover
2) Hit a cow's arse with a banjo

then I'll read reviews and consider a purchase. Just today I was staring in amazement as a bad guy and one of my team mates stood, full exposed (well, they had clothes on, but no cover ), not more than 8 feet away from each other. Both had automatic weapons. Neither hit each other for a good 20 seconds. It was like that scene out of Naked Gun! Eventually I gave up in disgust and wasted the bad guy with one bullet. The good guy was lucky to escape my wrath.

I'm probably posting the bloody obvious here, but people do realise that photo and the close up aren't the same picture. Firstly, the ring is narrower on GWB's finger. Also, the ring is further from GWB's knuckles than in the close-up.

BTW, I use Win2000 for my games (and everything else) too. 98% of games run fine. The only ones I haven't got to run find only fail because they deliberately check the OS and fail if it's not Win9X.

The copy I, ahem, aquired has several languages you can install it in - English, Chinese, Korean and Thai or something like that. At a guess that just shows where it fell out of the truck. It's not due in the UK for another 6 days (I think) so I can't comment on my local version.

It's a really impressive game. The region system is excellent (until a bug killed all neighbourhood deals and left most of my cities without power) and the complexity is impressive. However, it is very tough and a real performance hog. My Rad9700 AthlonXP2000 768MB DDR is brought to it's knees. Be warned!

Got to agree with you there ZipFlap.

I'm pleased with these. The earlier Cat3.0's causes WMP to stop showing videos. I wonder if I can play Quake 3 again...

Shut the f*ck up, no one asked you. Last I checked, it was a free country and people can post what they wish, except for you two twits

Two? I think you missed the irony of Dr. Del's post.

And if it's a free country, why should they shut the f*ck up? And why should they need asked before they post? For that matter, who asked you? Or me?

One thing I can say for Derek Smart. He gets publicity. What other game has the profile of BC? Let's take the first I think of ... Car Tycoon. Got a few (generally mediocre, leaning towards bad) reviews. Now no-one bar a few fans gives damn. Who wrote that? God knows. Probably about 50 people in the world do and few of those really care. Who wrote that £5 space cruiser you'll see on the cheap shelves very occasionally? Why, that would be Derek Smart. For better or worse, people know his name.

Amen to that Human. Fredrickson has again and again proved himself to be a poster like no other - truly unique. In my years of read and occasionally posting on Bluesnews, I can genuinely say I've seen no other poster who's quality and insightfulness matches or even comes close to that of Fredrickson. Definitely a poster who stands out.

I'm really looking forward to Simcity 4, even more than Stalker, Doom 3 and the like (although that's mainly due to this being due out this century). Simcity 3000 was a disappointment, being very cartoony. Simcity 4 is a much more realistic simulation, and with much deeper graphics.

I don't think there is any particularly outstanding new features - more a general overhaul - but some of the features I'm looking forwards to are:
- Region play. Up to 64 (8x8) cities (or towns, villages, farming communities etc) in one region, basically making it Simcounty. Intercity simulation is much deeper so you can create an overwhelmingly industrial city and house the workers in a neighbouring bedroom community.
- Farming. Improved farming system so farms stay as farms unless you say otherwise.
- God mode. Missing from SC3k completely, this is a revised version of SC2k's map builder. You can create detailed and realistic maps (again, up to 64 maps, all connected) with all kinds of effects like volcanos.
- Building on slopes. Buildings can be made on slopes, unlike earlier simcities were the ground had to be flat.
- Traffic simulation. Each household will have work places and schools associated so traffic will really go from a place to a true destination following a logical path, so traffic build ups will be accurate.
- Very detailed graphics. Still not fly-around 3D, Maxis went with crisp and detailed buildings rather than high camera flexiblity so the cities do look amazingly detailed, which wouldn't be possible with a free cam.

This is what I'm mainly looking forwards too. Maxis will also tell you things like the system where you can import your The Sims characters and they'll tell you about the city and what they think needs done is a great feature but I personally don't care much for The Sims. Still, a bit more feedback on what's good and what's not is welcome.

Have you had any Eggnog or pumpkin pie since last year, Blue? If you've had none, try some. It's like falling off a bike - the sooner you get back on, the sooner the (ever growing) psyhcological block (your mind telling you it makes you sick as it did last year) is removed. On the other hand, if you have tried some and still find you're not interested, it could take a while...

Believe me, I'm an expert in over-eating.

The PixelRage Q&A has a mention of a possible demo in the spring:

PixelRage: Can we expect a demo before the final game strikes?
Oleg Yavorsky: I may think so, we planned some demo for the first half of 2003.

No, it's not a gold CD we buy. It's a gold CD they make and send to the publishers, who then make thousands of copies (on normal silver CDs), put them in boxes and ship them to shops.

What's so complicated?

That's for music, and even that's pretty subjective (I think it's 100,000 here in the UK but I don't really know). For games, it means the final copy is done and is off for reproduction.

Finally, a map with no smacktards camping the planes ... because there's enough go around! This could be pretty damned cool.

EDIT: There sort of isn't 24 planes. There are 4 (2 per carrier), but these will respawn quickly when someone takes off in one, even if the previous is still in the air. Realilistic I suppose, as carriers could only launch a few at a time.
