A cursory glance at ebgames.com shows a March 25th release date for the US. Now that the game is gold I think it's reasonable to assume that date is pretty close to accurate.

Well that's great news... if the game is as cool as some of the previews have made it out to be. How about that demo we've been hearing about?

I really wish Madureira would quit video game design and go back to comics. He's so good at it, it's like having Pamela Anderson doing drama instead of cheesecake vids, or John Carmack working at McDonalds. I think it's a misuse of good talent.

Looks fun and all, but I just don't see myself paying $10 a month for a FPS. I can't believe that pings will be decent if nothing else.

The obvious solution to all these cries of racism is simple. Make all characters in all works of fiction, be it a novel, movie, or video game Anglo Males. When was the last time you ever heard a white dude complain that some white guy was the villain in a movie.

When Attack of the clones came out, there was a group of Hispanics protesting the movie because Jango Fett was hispani looking. They didn’t seem to mind the fact that the actor is NOT Hispanic… he’s from New Zeland or something, and they didn’t seem to care about the fact that Jango Fett was in fact the coolest character in the movie by a long shot. Nor did they care that the 2 arch villains, the 2 lords of the sith, were as white as bleach.

Of course, if everyone in every work of fiction was a male Caucasian, then there couldn’t be any romance novels or any kind of love interests going on, cause as soon as you make one of the characters gay, then you’re picking on the gay community.

So to clarify, all characters must by Caucasian males and straight. Then there’d be no problems.

Well, on the one hand, I understand that these guys are upset about the stereotyping they see in the game, but on the other hand, they need to understand that the Middle East is the enemy du jour at the moment. Cold war's over, so the Russians get a break finally, but America needs to focus on someone else. Someone is going to be vilified any time there's a story with a villain, which, lets face it, is just about any story. After the USSR broke down, you stopped seeing movies like Hunt for the Red October with the commies at the helm, and you start getting movies like Die Hard, with an eclectic bunch of Germo-Austrian and that one (I assume American) black tech guy. Now after 9/11, America’s got their bad guys again, and unfortunately for groups like the sikh’s, most American’s can’t (or don’t care to) distinguish one group of middle easterners from another.

You notice, however, you never hear about a bunch of angry white guys demanding a recall of Grand Theft Auto, because it portrays a white guy who runs over people indiscriminately and goes on killing sprees whenever his friends visit and wants to show off his new AK-47 that he found on the rooftop of a parking garage?

You know I'd download that, as the Y-Project looks pretty good, but then I'd have to DL real player as well. Yuck.

I hope this isn't the beginning of the end for the game. I'd really like to see it get to the shelves, I think it has the potential to be very cool, but news like this never bodes well.

jomisab, Doom 3 is scheduled for the Xbox, and The Carmack has already stated that the xbox version will suffer lower res textures cause the things only got 64 megs or RAM, but on a TV screen who's gonna notice, right?

Wow, an 8 Meg download for an FPS... that's gotta be a record. Either it's only 1 room, or its 5 rooms with all one texture, or maybe it's using computer generated textures.. let's see, theres a word for that... fractal textures - vector textures? In any case that'd be cool.

To summarize:

But seriously. It sounds like you can't use buy scripts or anything during the tournament. Which if they give you 10 seconds before the match isn't really a problem. I just hope they don't have a 3 minute delay on the spectator's screens this time like they did last time. I mean, if they want it to become a spectator sport, they have to take the spectators into account. Last time, we were all there watching the second to last match, and the Dutch (?) guys godpiled each other congradulating each other an knocking over their chairs and such. We didnt' get to see the match till after the teams had finished shaking hands and stuff.

I very much doubt that it's as long as either of them. I've found that as the quality of the content goes up, the quantity of it drops sharply. Since Half-Life, there hasn't been a game that's taken me more than 10 hours to beat. I highly suspect that will be the case here. Maybe being able to develop along a different branch of the force power tree will give it a little more longevity.

Um... it does have multiplayer in it, right?

Anyone here have the feeling that we're going to be sick of seeing this game by the time it comes out? Does Blizzard not have some kind of NDA on this? I guess with 5000 people or however many participating, the figured it'd be too hard to control. I haven't gotten my beta disk yet so I dunno.

Without having read the article, I'm going to guess that it had something to do with the subsequent failure of TA:Kingdons that drove Cavedog out of business and prevented the game Amen from ever seeing the light of day - one of the most awful things ever to happen to the gaming world, IMO.
