Ok, I was a little pissed about the whole "yes it will be out sept. 30" deal, up until around sept 23 or so.. Obvious lying like that was not good. But, I am over it now, ok, so should everyone else be. If your gonna hold grudges for old lies, do it for something important, like the JFK murder, or the Iraq war etc, and not video games.

HL 2 is the best FPS to come out in a LONG TIME, perhaps best ever. each to their own ofcourse, but the way you could improvise combat in HL2 , using physics, sawblades, those ball-things, cars traps etc was simply amazing, the innovations like the turrets , antlions, DOG, the Striders, gunships etc.... basically this game was just awesome. most good games have their "moments" like 2 or three times where you just go "WOW, THAT was awesome!!" HL2 had like atleast 15-20 of those moments IMO.

Claiming HL2 was "a big letdown" or "HL1 is so much better" is to me absurd. HL2 was a GREAT game, end of story.

16. Red Orchestra Jan 8, 2006, 06:16 BicycleRepairMan

I say, save you Darwinia/RDKF money, Red Orchestra is coming very soon (to steam) Here's some more info, it sounds so brilliant!

Just to make sure everyone is clear:

- No you can't "dolphin dive/dolphin jump" in Ostfront.

- No you cannot fire while diving to prone, and you can't fire until your weapon is back up after you have landed.

- The hit detection in Ostfront is some of the best your likely to see in any game. It matches the shape of the players body almost exactly, no matter what position the player is in. So when leaning, if the player's head is sticking out, you can shoot it.

- Ostfront features "Crouched Iron Sight Stance Raising" similar to Vietcong's. You can go to ironsights while crouched and your player raises up to fire over short obstacles.

- Leaning has proven to be extremely useful in our playtests. In CQB situations particularly it has really helped create some incredibly intense firefights. Leaning combined with resting your weapon on a wall is a very useful tactic for long range shots with a bolt action rifle as well.

By the last thing you said (leaning + resting weapons).

Does that mean you can easily say, stay to the right/left of a window and then lean and rest your weapon, take a shot, and then return back to your normal stance behind the wall/out of the window seal?

Yes, yes it does

6. Re: Decent little budget title... Jan 2, 2006, 14:17 BicycleRepairMan

only major annoyance for me was that I was unable to respawn.. when dead.. the Game Over screen just stays.. and then I have to press esc, wait for 5 seconds before the main menu appears, then choose new game..

Other than that.. rather average budget-title, noted first-person weapon animation skips/bugs like 5 times in 2 minutes of gaming.. and NPC's saying the same pleasdonthurtme.wav in a constant loop. Things like this takes away most of whats left of my immersion.

Fawlty Towers is the funniest damn show ever.

Quoted for truth. "the duck" episode where he warns, then beats his car, makes me laugh so uncontrollably its actually seriously uncomfortable to see it.

There's room in the world for more than 1 MMO. You don't have to beat the currently most played to be profitable.

Ofcourse, but WOW isnt the only one as it is, and the marked is getting crowded, I'm just saying its a huge risk for a fresh developer, most likely, if they havent released a game, they are probably going to bump into quite a few unexpected problems along the way, and then it would be wise not to make all those first-timer mistakes on a giant project.. My advise: Game developers should start out like all other artists and buisnesses, small first, bigger later.

Best of luck and all respect to my fellow scandinavians down there, but somehow I just dont think a "genre-shattering massively multiplayer game" is the perfect debut-title for a company.. Seeing so many of these "groundbreaking", "revolutionary" titles ending up with either the game gets rushed out, and/or the developer get shut down immedietly following release" or simply get cancelled.. it just seems like a long-shot.

I mean people need experience to launch MMO's .. look to blizzard.. how can Seed ever compete with WoW, it has to be A LOT better, and even that probably wont do the trick..

I would much rather have gone for a small game, like an indie game, and tried getting it on steam. I'm sure the Darwania folks have probably sold tens of thousands of copies already, and they are now probably ready to make something bigger, having the experience and income from Darwania to build on.

Just my 2 cents, its so sad to see games go under.

So anyway.... is DOD:S any good then? I've mostly been into the Wolfenstein games for MP but looking for something else ATM. The team-based objective MP & to an extent the WWII theme interests me, plus a few "online friends" are into it. It's that or F.E.A.R. to try out while I've some time over xmas.

DOD:S can be fun, the ragdolls are amazingly cool..

But if you want a real WW2 game, wait for Red Orchestra:Ostfront thats coming on steam in January.. more info on their website: http://www.redorchestragame.com

and also, check out this interview to hear about it features: http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=2410

It's going to end up like hollywood, where they make these horrible movies on low budgets knowing they are still going to make a profit, no matter how horrible the movie is.

Because the alternative, EA buying every single developer and push them to develop newer, bigger sequels full of bugs they wont bother fixing , is just so much better..

So what do you want from hollywood? more 200 million summer-blockbusters??, yeah thats exciting.. Instead those money could have been spent on fresh directors and 20 low budget movies, and yeah, maybe half of them would suck, but if there was one new reservoir dogs, or pulp fiction in there, thats a thousand times more exciting then another DOOM/Hulk/spiderman/batman/starwars etc movie.

9. Re: Don't forget new Alien Swarm stuff! Dec 13, 2005, 17:58 BicycleRepairMan

As somebody said here (or was it somewhere else?) the problem with UT is not lack of options or game content, but perhaps the complete opposite.. I mean, load up UT, and lets see. I want to play deathmatch: I'll just join this server.. hmm everybody has big heads.. and low gravity.., lets do some CTF then *joining CTF server* hmm, seems there is only one gun now, and it kills instantly..

Join a CS server, and youll get: CS. on Dust 1 or 2. everybody buys AK or M4, sometimes AWM to "go crazy" a round or two.

Point is, with games: keep it simple, stupid, people want to compete on even grounds , be the best, or atleast good at a game, if your good in UT, well.. what UT? onslaught? assault? instagib CTF? there is no one answer, no common ground, hence no community..

This is why I, and many, many others play UT with bots, because then its my rules, my mutators, my game.

26. bugs Dec 13, 2005, 11:54 BicycleRepairMan

Seriously, what where the serious showstopper bugs in Postal 2?? like every FPS for the last 10 years I'm sure it had some issues, but I really cant remember anything specific.. except the loadtimes, they where too long, but then again the levels where pretty big

As for "poor gameplay" , Postal is one of the more open-ended FPS's I've ever seen.. there were lots of cool combos with setting stuff on fire, shoveling, booting in doors, head-football(that was just pure class) and lots more, also the randomly appearing marching bands.. man, a game that lets you set a marching band on fire!, it was like I'd died and come to heaven.

Also, I'm a sucker for good shotguns, and IIRC Postal 2's shotty was among the top 10* Ive seen in a game..

*Best game shotguns ever:
1.DOOM1, single barrel
1.DOOM2, DB.
3.Action-Halflife single barrel
4.Halflife 1 and 2.
5 Serious Sam DB
6.Postal 2

23. imagine Dec 8, 2005, 14:51 BicycleRepairMan

imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
No religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

hmm, works perfectly in my Firefox (1.5), I may have done something I cant remember(like allow popups from nrk) , as I frequently watch Nrk's stuff.

Now that it works, I need to tell you about my favourite show these days, Slå På Ring: I give you:

I have no idea what you're referring to there GH -- the link doesn't automatically open up a video clip or anything, and I don't read Norwegian

I think you need to register to see the clip..

its a clip of norwegian pop-artist Mira Craig doing a stage dive and failing miserably, she actually broke her knee. In the video, you can actually hear her landing on the concrete in a very human-against-concrete kind of sound.
