I guess it's going to be can you see their goal and are ok enough with it or have they crossed the line in the sand and no more of any of this!? I'm sort of the prior, I can see why they are doing this. I think more of the power user computer people will find more issue to these stronger armed tactics. But there are millions that need a tighter controlled system for their systems to stay functioning.

Personally I haven't hit the point that their issues can't be overcome with a little more work on my end after an update. But again, I get your point certainly. Yes this could all go tragically wrong, but I don't want to cry wolf too early either.

It's actually very simple for me at this point: I want to play DirectX games and the future of DirectX games is on Windows 10 unfortunately so you got to take the good with the bad and the bad with the good.

If there were a serious alternative (no, I do not think that Wine is a serious enough alternative in terms of compatibility and performance) or if DirectX 12 would be available for Windows 7 including mainstream support on Windows 7 beyond 2020 then I would have stuck with Win 7 forever after or moved on to another OS that supports DirectX gaming.

I think that it's strange that Valve doesn't spend its billions on a high-performing Wine alternative. If they truly feel threatened by Windows, this is the way to go. It allows people to install Linux, have access to all their legacy titles, and allows Valve full control over their client. Win-win-win.
