Centum Next Month

Serenity Forge announces a March 11th release date for Centum, its point-and-click adventure that messes with your sense of reality by presenting an unreliable narration. That description should help as you view the Release Date Announcement which illustrates just how unreliable that can be. It is coming to PC and consoles, and you can wishlist the Windows edition on Steam. Here's more:
You're a prisoner in a cell. You have to escape. But is that really the goal?

Unreliable Narrator: Centum challenges traditional gaming conventions by weaving an intricate narrative where reality is as fluid as the mind of its narrator.

Mind-bending Gameplay: Navigate a series of daunting scenarios, each shrouded in uncertainty and enigma. Every click and decision is remembered, forcing you to grapple with the unreliable nature of the narrator's hints and guidance.

Hauntsville Launches Next Month; Demo Released

Publisher indie.io announces Hauntsville, an open-world survival/horror game set in the wild west. This will transport players back to 1897 when it officially launches on March 10th, but there's a chance to go boots on the ground with this right now in the playable Windows demo on Steam. This is the work of solo developer Michael Janisch, who still shows an appreciation for teamwork by including co-op support. Check out the Release Date Announcement Trailer for a look at this in action and read on for more:
As a nameless traveler stranded in a once-thriving frontier town, players will quickly discover that something is deeply wrong. The hired hands have vanished, the horses are missing, and the townspeople are nowhere to be found. Some say the town’s secrets are buried with the dead, but strange symbols, cryptic notes, and a lone merchant who managed to survive the massacre suggest that the truth might be even more terrifying than the fate of those who disappeared. And as the howls echo from the dark corners of the valley, one thing becomes chillingly clear—something else is out there, watching, waiting.

Marvel Rivals Resets Reset Plans

A new update from NetEase reverses course on plans to reset player ranks in Marvel Rivals, the free-to-play PvP shooter. Perhaps it thought that players would be excited to learn their hard-fought progress would be lost, but, shockingly, that turned out not to be the case. Here's the nuance that was missed: "A common concern was the pressure associated with having a rank reset every half-season, which has made participating in competitive mode less enjoyable." Luckily there wasn't much conviction behind the plan, so the pivot is instantaneous. As of now there will be no mid-season reset, and the rewards for the second half of Season 1 will be participation trophies:
1. The first half of the season will still conclude on February 21, 2025, at 8:00 AM (UTC+0). Players at Gold rank will receive the costume reward, as well as Crests of Honors for those in Grandmaster and above, and the Crest of Honor for the top 500 (One Above All).

2. When the second half of the season begins, there will be no rank reset. Players will retain their ranks and scores from the end of the first half. To earn new rewards, players simply need to complete 10 matches in Competitive mode and meet the relevant conditions by the end of the season. Rewards will include a new Gold rank costume and a variety of Crests of Honor, featuring distinct designs for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All.

Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone Early Access Next Month

The Farm 51 announces that Early Access to Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone will begin on Steam on March 6th, offering a sequel to this S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-inspired first-person shooter (thanks DSOGaming). Celebrating the news is a new Early Access Announcement CGI Trailer. This launch will be just weeks after the launch of a Kickstarter to push development over the finish line. With things coming to a head, this post recaps a recent AMA on Reddit with the developers discussing the plan. Here's the game's overview:
Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone is a post-apo action RPG game, mixing free exploration of huge and extremely realistic open world, challenging combat, unique crafting, team and base management with non-linear storytelling. You’re a planewalker who travels through parallel worlds in search of the precious, high-energy material called Chernobylite. Cut off from the world, trapped in the Zone, attacked by hordes of nightmare creatures, you must fight for survival and unite the handful of remaining survivors.

On RTX 50 Series 12VHPWR Overheating

Tom's Hardware takes a look at NVIDIA's new RTX 50 series GPUs, and the increasing number of reports saying these may suffer the same 12VHPWR connector issue that caused melting problems on RTX 4090 cards. A new video from der8auer uses thermal imagery to show overheating cables, and this video from Actually Hardcore Overclocking breaks down its findings further, saying the new cards make the connector "even worse" (thanks Diabolik). The article on Tom's summarizes some test results suggesting the overheating is due to uneven power distribution:
In short, uneven current distribution leads to dangerously high temperatures which can potentially burn or melt the cable and damage connected components. In isolation, this incident could've been swept under the rug as a one-off, however, Roman's near one-to-one recreation of the problem suggests there's something else at play here.

Deadly Quiet Announced

Publisher: Galactic Crows and developers Tarba Paul Cornel and Muhammad Abdul Rafy announce Deadly Quiet, a survival/horror shooter coming to Steam this spring. This supports four-player co-op, and the description refers to its multiplayer support as "asymmetrical," but without a player in the role of the monster, that doesn't sound accurate. This is depicted through the lens of a bodycam, a mechanic that's shown off in the Official Reveal Trailer, which uses in-game footage. Here's more on this latest lesson on the dangers of camping trips:
You and your friends embark on a weekend camping trip in the Hoia Baciu forest. A detour along a ravine leads you across a shaky bridge, but disaster strikes as your car plunges into the depths below. Miraculously, everyone survives, but your vehicle is destroyed. With no signal and night quickly falling, you’re stranded in the heart of the ominous forest. Your only hope is to traverse the cursed woods and reach the nearby town of Cluj.
