Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Launch Sets Records

Activision Xs the announcement that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the "biggest ever Call of Duty 3-Day Opening weekend ever." A graphic shows Black Ops 6 is number one in total players, hours played, and total matches. It's not stated if it surpassed the $800 million earned by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II during its opening weekend, but availability on Game Pass increases engagement at the expense of sales. Here are quotes on the milestone from the brass:
Here's what Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, said in their first quarter earnings call today:
"Last week’s launch of Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for day one players, as well as Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day. Unit sales on PlayStation and Steam were also up over 60 percent year-over-year."

Matt Cox, SVP, GM of Call of Duty had this to say about the launch:
“Thank you to our players around the world for making Black Ops 6 the biggest Call of Duty launch ever. Our goal from the start has been to bring this great game to as many players as possible wherever they are, however they play. Black Ops 6 is an amazing game, and the response from the Call of Duty community has been incredible. This is only the beginning. Nuketown is only days away and Season 1 is right around the corner. We’re just getting started.”

Steam Games Must Disclose Kernel Anti-Cheat

A Steamworks Development Update explains the role of a new tag developers must apply to games sold on Steam that use anti-cheat software (thanks Neowin). Word is: "players have been requesting more transparency around the anti-cheat services used in games, as well as the existence of any additional software that will be installed within the game." Use of the new tag is just a suggested best practice for run-of-the-mill anti-cheat solutions, but is considered mandatory for any game that installs kernel-level anti-cheat software on the client side:
Going forward, when you submit a new game to Steam, if your game installs a client side, kernel mode anti-cheat, you will need to fill out this new field. We will be going through old games and contacting partners with games that fall into this category.

If your game contains a client or server based anti-cheat that is not kernel based, submitting the field is optional but we generally think that any game that makes use of anti-cheat technology would benefit from letting players know.

Out of the Blue

Tomorrow is Halloween, so I guess today is All Hallows' Eve Eve. Our preparations were complete so long ago, I'm not sure they're still complete. By that I mean that we've been doing more than a little raiding of the candy supply we picked up weeks back. With the festivities almost upon us, I'm going to have to do an inventory and decide if I need to make a run to the store to replenish the dent we put in our stash. Don't judge us. Yes, we're adults, but c'mon, it's Halloween!

Sweet Round-up
Thanks Ant, Neutronbeam, and Max.
