Concord Shutting Down This Week

The PlayStation.Blog has "an important update on Concord," announcing the troubled 5v5 PC and PlayStation 5 shooter is ceasing sales immediately, and will go offline on Friday, just two weeks after its launch to reportedly weak sales. While the update says the plan is to "explore options," all purchases are being refunded right now. No further action should be required of PC gamers, who are told that Epic or Steam will be in touch shortly with a refund confirmation. Here are some details on the decision:
However, while many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended. Therefore, at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.

While we determine the best path ahead, Concord sales will cease immediately and we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased the game for PS5 or PC. If you purchased the game for PlayStation 5 from the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct, a refund will be issued back to your original payment method.

Eden Survivors Announced

Not even a month after the launch of Eden Genesis on Steam, Aeternum Game Studios announces Eden Survivors, an upcoming cyberpunk sequel that stops short of the exodus that would follow its biblical allusions. The original is an action/platformer while the follow-up is a survival bullet-hell shooter played from an isometric perspective. There's no separate video yet, but the Steam Listing has footage of it in action along with screenshots. There's no date yet but word is it's in "an advanced state of development, and Steam says it's "coming soon" to Early Access. Here's more on the second bite at this apple:
Hordes of enemies and a bullet hell is what awaits us in the next project from Aeternum Game Studios, a game that is in an "advanced state of development" and that will be released very soon as an Early Access title. The few details that have been revealed so far talk about a survivors title, influenced by the best representatives of the genre such as Deep Rock Galactic Survivors, Brotato, and, of course, Vampire Survivors, but with gameplay and style adapted to the cyberpunk world that we saw in Eden Genesis.

With Eden Survivors, the developers aim to expand the universe of their new IP, transporting the players to a battlefield where they must hold out for 20 minutes against an unstoppable legion of aliens. To face this threat, we'll take control of a pilot linked to a special mecha, with different combat skills and passive abilities. Following the path of this type of games, our combat robot will automatically shoot as we move through the ruins of Eden City, allowing us to choose between different advantages and weapons as we progress through the game, which adds an interesting RPG component when choosing our own combat style.

Dagger Directive Announced

MicroProse announces Dagger Directive, which will take a stab at the tactical first-person shooter genre when it arrives on Steam, though it doesn't yet carry a release date. The Announcement Trailer shows off gameplay, including an arsenal that goes well beyond the dagger, so a literal interpretation of the title misses the point. Here's more on the first full game from Arcane Alpacas, which has previously worked on add-on content:
MicroProse is proud to announce its latest publishing venture: Dagger Directive. This tactical first-person shooter (FPS) promises to deliver a gripping, player-driven experience that combines modern mechanics with a nostalgic visual style.

In Dagger Directive, players will take on the role of a member of Task Force Dagger, an elite international special forces unit tasked with saving the world from a variety of threats. The game offers three distinct campaigns, each set in diverse global environments—from battling eco-terrorists in the icy waters of the Bering Sea to halting international crime in the South Pacific and combating extreme nationalism in the heart of Eastern Europe.

Out of the Blue

With Labor Day weekend in the books, it's unofficially autumn in the US. That tracks better than I anticipated, as it's already a bit cooler sooner than predicted in the last forecast I saw. In fact, it now suggests we may now be done with air conditioning until sometime in the spring. It only shows the next 10 days, though, which doesn't even extend until the official end of summer, so I won't break out the long underwear just yet.
