Mafia: The Old Country Announced

2K and Hangar 13 officially announce Mafia: The Old Country is the title of Mafia 4, saying the next installment in the organized crime series will take a trip back to the old country to see the origins of this thing of ours. Word is the game will arrive for PC and consoles next year, and we should expect the reveal of further details in December. In the meantime, there are a couple of images in the announcement and an atmospheric Teaser Trailer. We'll risk sharing more, even though snitches get stitches:
Mafia: The Old Country announced with a stunning, tone-setting teaser trailer. Uncover the origins of organized crime with a gritty mob story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily. Fight to survive in this dangerous and unforgiving era, with action brought to life by the authentic realism and rich storytelling that the critically acclaimed Mafia series is known for.

“Across the first three entries in the Mafia franchise, we introduced players to the world of the Mafia through brutal stories set in different eras,” said Nick Baynes, President of Hangar 13. “In Mafia: The Old Country, we’re going back to the roots of what fans love about the franchise, crafting a deep, linear narrative with that classic mob movie feeling, visiting a stunning new setting, and delivering it all in a tight, focused package perfect for fans of immersive experiences.”

Sniper Elite: Resistance Announced

Rebellion announces Sniper Elite: Resistance, a new installment in the World War II sharpshooting series coming to PC and consoles in 2025, with the Windows edition targeting the Epic Games Store, Steam, and PC Game Pass. This is not Sniper Elite 6, as it is described as "a gripping new standalone story that runs in parallel with Sniper Elite 5." The Reveal Trailer shows off signature elements from the series, including sprawling maps, stealthy combat, and, of course, capping Nazis. It doesn't show any gruesome X-ray shots of your victims, but the announcement says that feature is returning, so it may be omitted from the video so YouTube will finally allow a video from this series to be embedded. Word is you'll work with the resistance to fight the threat of, let's call them secret weapons of the Luftwaffe or the like:
Sniper Elite: Resistance tells a gripping new standalone story that runs in parallel with Sniper Elite 5. Harry Hawker, agent of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), takes the lead role for the first time in the series as he discovers an insidious new Wunderwaffe - something so powerful, it guarantees the Nazis would win the war.

Offering the unparalleled sniping mechanics, stealth and tactical third-person combat you would expect from the franchise, Sniper Elite: Resistance turns the attention towards the hidden war, far from the front lines, deep within the heart of occupied France.

Kill List targets, multiple infiltration and extractions points and side missions allow player agency on how to complete your objective.

Peter Molyneux Reveals Masters of Albion

Peter Molyneux visited gamescom's opening ceremony to unveil Masters of Albion, a new open world god game from the originator of the genre set in an Albion that isn't the setting of Fable for some reason. Molyneux introduces the game and explains this is entirely self-funded in a conversation with Geoff Keighley. But lest we think too much has changed, the World Premiere Trailer certainly has a touch of the old Molyneux hype. Peter also says it's available to wishlist now on Steam, but that is not yet the case. Acknowledging that some of Peter's recent efforts under-delivered, there's another interview on GamesIndustry.biz calling the game his (probably) "final shot at redemption." Here's a bit from that on returning "home" to PC development:
This notion of 'going home' extends to what Molyneux is trying to do with Masters of Albion. It is a fantasy god game where players build up a town that gets attacked at night, and the designer is revisiting features and concepts from some of his most famous games. There’s the 'defender' gameplay and the ability to possess characters from Dungeon Keeper, the open world and morality system of Black & White, and the humour, world and quest system of Fable.

"In Dungeon Keeper, we invented the possession mode but never exploited it, never explored it,” he explains. "This is why a lot of Nintendo games are great, because they are fantastic at coming up with a unique mechanic and exploiting it in a way that's just delightful.

Counter-Strike Bans New Keyboards

There's been a lot of discussion about whether keyboard technology called Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions (SOCD) recently introduced by Razer and Wooting is cheating or not. SOCD allows unprecedented multiple keypress control putting pro-level advanced maneuvering techniques in the toolkit of ordinary gamers. Now Valve checks in on the topic saying that automation via scripting or hardware that circumvent core game skills is now banned, which includes such keyboards with "input-automation" features:
Recently, some hardware features have blurred the line between manual input and automation, so we've decided to draw a clear line on what is or isn't acceptable in Counter-Strike.

We are no longer going to allow automation (via scripting or hardware) that circumvent these core skills and, moving forward, (and initially--exclusively on Valve Official Servers) players suspected of automating multiple player actions from a single game input may be kicked from their match.

To prevent accidental infractions, in-game binds that include more than one movement and/or attack actions will no longer work (e.g., null-binds and jump-throw binds).
