SMITE 2 Alpha This Month with MOBA Matchmaking [6:45 pm ET] – Share – 1 Comment
Titan Forge Games announces SMITE 2 will enter a full-time closed alpha
phase on August 27th, offering founders a more "balanced" experience in the
upcoming MOBA sequel. Part of that equilibrium will come from the game's new
matchmaking system which accounts for the variability of the genre. Since
players can switch between characters and roles from match to match, SMITE 2
matchmaking will account for this, and give everyone multiple skill
ratings:
The new "MOBA Specific Matchmaking" system aims to track the skill level of SMITE 2 players in a multi-dimensional fashion, to more accurately capture how skilled a player is. Instead of using a single rank number, this innovative approach will take into consideration players’ roles and their performance on these roles. That information will then be used to create matches that are not only more equal, but also achieve the main goal of being more fun.

Bethesda Slayers Club announces the availability of a public beta of
idStudio, editing software which allows the creation and uploading of
modifications for DOOM Eternal, the latest installment in id's shooter
series (thanks Frans). There's also an opt-in PC Mod Preview to allow players to
easily browse and play such mods. The Mod Preview is available
on Steam
and for
Xbox Insiders, while the idStudio beta is only
on
Steam. A new id Studio Website
welcomes the mod community, and outlining the details, and providing a
DOOM Eternal
Mods FAQ.

Yesterday's surprise release of that DOOM + DOOM II update seems like fantastic
news, and I'm really looking to checking it out. QuakeCon sort of marks the
beginning of the end of the summer game show season, which more-or-less
culminates in gamescom, and the biggest show of all gets underway on August
21st.
