BioGun Released

BioGun is now officially available on Steam, as this metroidvania shot though Early Access where it began just a few months ago. Dapper Dog Digital and Ravenage Games say this is inspired by classic Saturday morning cartoons, serving up this Official Launch Trailer as proof. One can identify other inspirations like Fantastic Voyage and Osmosis Jones (or the "Anatomy Park" episode of Rick and Morty if you prefer) in its tale of miniaturized sci-fi medicine as well as a little John Wick for its canine-centric sensibilities. Here's word:
Join Bek on his journey to save the entire canine species from an extinction caused by the sinister Dooper Virus. Inject yourself into a zany hand-drawn world of germs, cells, and winding passages full of vibrant characters and ferocious bosses with a story that takes place inside our beloved pets.

Give your dog a fighting chance by aiding its immune system to fight off the Dooper Virus. Befriend cells on your journey, absorb new powers from vanquished foes and explore vital organs to prevent them from failing! Will you be the vaccine to save dog-kind from extinction?

Bungie Layoffs

The New Path for Bungie has Bungie's announcement of "difficult changes," saying that beginning today the studio is eliminating 220 roles, saying the layoffs represent about 17% of the company's workforce. There's also word that 155 other positions in the company will be "integrated" into Sony Interactive Entertainment and that Bungie is working to form a new studio within PlayStation Studios to "spin out" an incubation project described as "an action game set in a brand-new science-fantasy universe." The post also goes into detail on the circumstances that contributed to today's bad news:
For over five years, it has been our goal to ship games in three enduring, global franchises. To realize that ambition, we set up several incubation projects, each seeded with senior development leaders from our existing teams. We eventually realized that this model stretched our talent too thin, too quickly.  It also forced our studio support structures to scale to a larger level than we could realistically support, given our two primary products in development – Destiny and Marathon.

Additionally, in 2023, our rapid expansion ran headlong into a broad economic slowdown, a sharp downturn in the games industry, our quality miss with Destiny 2: Lightfall, and the need to give both The Final Shape and Marathon the time needed to ensure both projects deliver at the quality our players expect and deserve. We were overly ambitious, our financial safety margins were subsequently exceeded, and we began running in the red.

Chivalry 2 "Feature Complete"

A post on Steam called The Path Ahead for Chivalry announces said path for Chivalry 2 will not include any more content updates, as Torn Banner Studios declares the first-person slasher "feature complete" a little over three years after its launch. As a result, most of this look ahead is a look back at the 11 major content updates that the game received along the way. There is the promised look ahead, as the post concludes with some hype for the next Chivalry and confirmation that Chivalry II will continue to receive bug fixes and the servers remain available as before:
With this final content update delivered to players, we’re excited to focus our efforts and resources on compelling new multiplayer projects, both in the Chivalry universe as well as within terrifying new co-op territory. We’ve been building our team in number and skillset to take on these following challenges, with a focused effort to ensure that when the next Chivalry title is released, it will utterly blow players away.

This isn’t the end for Chivalry 2, either—the game will continue to be supported for maintenance of any critical issues affecting the player base. Online services like official servers, unofficial servers, and matchmaking will continue to be available to players.

Minds Beneath Us Released

Minds Beneath Us is now on Steam, launching a sci-fi point-and-click adventure for Windows from BearBoneStudio which manages to describe its dystopian Asian environment, AI themes, and underlying conspiracy without ever using the term "cyberpunk." This is played from a side-scrolling perspective and features some distant backgrounds for a strong parallax effect, as seen in the Launch Trailer. Here's the pitch:
Minds Beneath Us is an adventure about a guy and a data ghost who lives in his head and controlls his body.

After society has become fully automated with AI, a new industry has emerged that replaces the hardware needed to operate the internet with linked human brains.
As a result, the most disadvantaged of citizens have had no choice but to put in their bid to sign up, one after another.
Against the stage of this mad society, a mysterious conspiracy gradually unveils.

Out of the Blue

I made a minor change to the presentation here not that long ago that you may have noticed, but it's gone unmentioned before now. This is to simply include site names in links so you know where you're heading. I have to admit being sheepish about it, because despite being obvious, simple, and helpful, it still took this long. On a desktop you could always hover your cursor to see, but this is far more straightforward, and the hover trick doesn't work on mobile, so here we are.
