Ubisoft Financials

Ubisoft's First Quarter 2024-25 Financial Report is here to help make sense of the dollars the company brought in the last quarter. Or euros to be more precise, as word from the French company is: "Net bookings of €290.0 million, ahead of target of around €275.0 million." This, combined with the virtual previews we are currently holding, is the biggest preview event for press and content creators ever held at Ubisoft. The game has gone gold and is set to release on August 30.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the next flagship title in the franchise is set to release on November 15 and is the most ambitious Assassin’s Creed yet. It comes with dual protagonists, a stepchanging innovation for the brand offering two completely different playstyles and perspectives to the story, providing a deeper immersion and enhanced gameplay variety. Vampire Therapist Released

Vampire Therapist is now available for Windows, macOS, and Linux on GOG.com* and Steam, offering a therapeutic twist on an interview with a vampire from solo developer Little Bat Games (Cyrus Nemati). The Launch Trailer has a look at gameplay said to draw inspiration from What We Do in the Shadows and Horrible Histories, promising "comedic style with deep, introspective subject matters and heartfelt characters and real-life historical personalities." And word is the included vampire therapy is bloody real: "All of the techniques discussed and used in Vampire Therapist have been created in consultation with licensed therapists to give the game an authentic message." If that sounds a bit batty, so does the description:
Take on the role of Sam, a former rootin’, tootin’ Wild West gunslinger who escaped his day-to-day of murder and mayhem and realized, after a hundred years or so, that there’s a whole lot more to unlife than blood, lace, and leather. Dragging himself from the quagmire of the Old West, Sam teams up with a 3000-year-old vampire living in Europe that’s willing to show him the therapy ropes.

Immerse yourself into this alternate world and meet your clients: self-hating vampires, agoraphobic social media addicts, supernatural narcissists, and victims of centuries-old capitalistic systems. You can’t fix the world, but maybe you can help other vampires accept it.

Dungeons 4 DLC Next Month

Kalypso Media and Realmforge Studios announce The Good, the Bad, and the Evil is coming to Dungeons 4 on August 8th, bringing the first DLC to the dungeon management sequel for PC and consoles. Heeding the advice of Horace Greely, this takes the game on a surprising visit to the American wild west. This post has details, but there's no trailer yet, so we'll have to wait for a look at how these genres blend. Here's a bit from the announcement which does not explain the distinction this will draw between bad and evil:
Embark on an Evil pursuit against the formidable Dwarven Queen Brynnhild through the untamed West in five new missions. New dwarven units like the Pistolero, Machine Dwarf and Crack Shot, armed with powerful dwarven weaponry, add a fresh layer of tactical evilness, while Thalya goes full Wicked Wild West, bringing new passive skills into the fight against the Good.

Steam locomotives rumble across the land, brimming with dwarves armed with dynamite and guns, led by Brynnhild and her fearsome steel train, bringing hope to the forces of light and goodness—how revolting! But fear not, for you, with Thalya and your new arsenal, are the key to turning the tide in favour of Evil.

Out of the Blue

Robot umpire challenge system could be tested next spring training, 2026 regular-season use possible. I hate so many of the modernized changes to baseball like the designated hitter, pitch clocks, and weird extra inning rules. But no baseball game has ever been completed without at least one terrible ball/strike call. It's known that each umpire has a slightly different strike zone, and some are so terrible at calling pitches it's hard to understand how they got their jobs. So I'm completely on board with the robot umps, as they will finally solve one of the sport's most ridiculous problems.
