New Resident Evil Revealed

A post from Resident Evil on X has the news that a new Resident Evil game is in the works. This is not specifically called Resident Evil 9, and other details like a release window are not being discussed right now. Wario64 highlights what little Capcom has to say for now by quoting game director Koshi Nakanishi, who also directed Resident Evil 7: Biohazard: "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after 7. But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Here's the entirety of the official post about a new installment in the survival/horror series:

Scorchlands This Month

Ringlab and Star Drifters announce version 1.0 of Scorchlands will officially launch on July 25th, following over a year of Early Access on GOG.com* and Steam for this Windows strategy game. For the latest look at gameplay, turn to the Full Release Date Trailer. Here's a bit discussing the game and what Early Access players can expect from the official launch:
In the world of Scorchlands, magic plays a significant role, adding a touch of chaos. This magical influence summons a variety of beasts to the surface of the moon Helia, and the relationship is straightforward: the more colonization efforts the Giwi undertake, the more surprises they encounter. With each settlement they establish, the gameplay becomes increasingly challenging.

With the release of the full version of Scorchlands, additional content will be implemented. The creators have achieved all the goals set out in the roadmap introduced on the day the game launched in Early Access, alongside numerous smaller updates that have also shaped the game.

Cataclismo Early Access This Month

Hooded Horse and Digital Sun announce July 22nd is the Steam Early Access date for Cataclismo, the siege combat RTS where castles are destroyed just like they are constructed, brick-by-brick. This is shown off in the new Early Access Release Date Announcement Trailer, and there's a playable demo if you want to check it out. A post on Steam discusses specifics to expect from the initial release. Here's an overview of the game:

Funko Fusion Team Fortress 2 Pack Revealed

10:10 Games Ltd announces a Team Fortress 2 Pack is coming to Funko Fusion when the game launches on Steam on September 13th. Like the dust-catchers on which it's based, this game is a celebration of pop-culture, and this DLC is a chance to add a bit more for free (though sadly this doesn't seem to include the obvious tie-in of a Barnes & Noble map). Here's the Reveal Trailer and word:
Roll out with Heavy with his beloved Mini-Gun “Sasha” to mow down enemies and clear the way forward! Speed through with Scout and his wide-spread Scattergun! Experiment with Medic’s Bonesaw and innovative Syringe Gun! Control combat manufacturing with Engineer and his trusty Build-Matic Wrench.

Evening Mobilization

New Steam User Record

Perhaps inspired by the Summer Sale that began last week, Valve's Steam Charts Overview reveals that Steam achieved a new peak concurrent player count of 36,927,213 yesterday at 1:00 pm EDT (thanks Neowin). This is slightly fewer than the 36,928,521 user count reported by SteamDB, where they continue third-party tracking that's not perfectly synced with Valve's reporting. The previous record for most users on Steam at once was set back in March when Steam claimed 36,339,520 concurrent users while SteamDB put the figure at 36,354,393.

Out of the Blue

Thank you to Frans for passing along this eagle-cam clip showing the first of the eaglets taking flight. Knowing the plot in advance didn't keep this from being a terrific scene. The fledgling working up the confidence that this whole "flying" thing will actually work is so charming and the actual flight gave me chills. And the post-credits scene with the parent and remaining sibling added a dramatic "to be continued" to the story. There's a lot of drama for four minutes with no dialog.

Fledgling Round-up
Thanks Ant, Neutronbeam, and Max.
