Cities: Skylines II Beach Properties DLC Delisted

The Beach Properties DLC for Cities: Skylines II is now delisted on Steam, and is no longer for sale, just a few weeks following its release. A lengthy post from Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive explains this is in response to player disappointment with the add-on, discussing the path forward, which involves the delay of the city builder for consoles. This also includes making the add-on content free for all players and providing refunds where possible, which it is not for Ultimate Edition customers due to the complexities of partial refunds. Word is: "We are committed to repaying that loyalty, and therefore, we will compensate Ultimate Edition holders by adding 3 Creator Packs and 3 Radio Stations which, together, sum up to a value of USD 39.99." The post starts out admitting the DLC was rushed and should not have been published as it was. Here's what it says about changing things going forward:
Looking ahead, we also want to make immediate and meaningful changes in the way we approach the game’s development and our communication with you. Firstly, this means a complete focus on improving the base game and modding tools, and secondly, we want to better involve you, the community, as we choose our priorities going forward. We will focus on additional free patches and game updates in the coming months before Colossal Order spends time on new paid content, resulting in a move of the Bridges and Ports Expansion to 2025. In addition, the aforementioned Creator Packs are being produced independently, and will not take any focus away from the work on improving the game. To make sure we focus on the right things, we’re putting together an advisory meeting, where a small group of player representatives, together with Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive, will discuss the development plan for this year. The people in this group are chosen for the size of their following within the community to represent as many people as possible. The teams from Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive will provide them with full transparency and answer any questions and critiques voiced. Our hope is that together with you, our community, we can make sure that we do not repeat the same mistakes we have made in the past and bring this game into a bright future.

Larian on Baldur's Gate III and Two New Game IPs

A post from Larian Studios on Steam revels in the best game honor for Baldur's Gate III at the recent BAFTA Game Awards, noting this is the fifth major Game of the Year award for the RPG sequel. The post discusses future plans for the game, saying "we still have a few tricks up our sleeve" in discussing Patch 7 and beyond (warning about possible spoilers). There's also a look ahead, as the developer has already expressed a desire to move on from Baldur's Gate going forward. Details are scant for now, but work is underway on two new game projects, each based on an original IP, and excitement is high: "I don’t know if we’re going to pull it off, but looking at our narrative, visual and gameplay plans, I think what we’re working on now will be our best work ever," gushes Larian CEO Swen Vincke. "I get excited like a kid watching the key imagery, want to show it to everyone now and grumble in frustration at having to wait until it’s actually all working. Yes, it’s hype but it’s hype because it really looks and feels good." Here's more:

As an independent studio since 1996, we value the freedom to follow our creativity wherever it leads. In this case, after six years in the Forgotten Realms and much discussion and rumination, we’ve decided to seize this opportunity to develop our own IPs. We’re currently working on two new projects and we couldn’t be more excited about what the future has in store.

It’s still early days - we’ll tell you more about those later down the line. But know that even as our focus turns to these new games, the sensibilities that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 are alive and well here at the Larian castle. We’re fueled by the very same fire in our bellies, one that drives us to create immersive experiences shaped by your choices, and we can’t wait for you to join us on this next adventure.

Out of the Blue

Quentin Tarantino's Final Film Won't Be 'The Movie Critic'; Pic Scrapped. Not sure why he's arbitrarily sticking to limiting his work to 10 films in the first place, especially since he's already directed 11 (sorry Quentin, there were two Kill Bill movies). But I certainly understand why he might not want his final film to be one to piss off the film critics who will be responsible for ongoing reevaluations of his work going forward. That's just prudence.

Prudent Round-up
Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.
