Capes Next Month (Revisited)

Daedalic Entertainment announces May 29th is the official release date for Capes, the turn-based superhero tactics game. If this gives you déjà vu, it's not a glitch in the matrix, it's because the news was accidentally posted here Monday before an embargo ended, so apologies to everyone for the screw-up. Preorders are now underway on the Epic Games Store and Steam for Windows and macOS and on the respective stores for PlayStation 4/5 and Switch (it will also launch on Xbox One/Series X|S). Developer Spitfire Interactive boasts veterans of Freedom Force and Teen Titans development, promising to build on the lessons learned from those comic book-inspired games. Here's a new Release Date Reveal Trailer and word:
Twenty years ago, the supervillains won. Since then, they’ve created a dystopian city where developing super powers is a crime. Nobody has managed to slow them down, until now.

Capes is a turn based superhero strategy game where you build a team of heroes and fight to take back the city.

Played across a series of campaign and patrol missions, choose to push forward with the story or take the time to explore the side missions and unlock more heroes, earn skill points and complete challenges, and learn more about your heroes lives.

The Reveal Trailer shows this follow up to SteamWorld Dig 2 and SteamWorld Heist. The lesson here, as Neil Young once warned, is rust never sleeps:
All is not well on the waves, a crisis is brewing. A water crisis! Mysteriously, this precious resource has turned deadly, corroding metal limbs and mechanical hearts.

Take charge as Captain Leeway joined by his ragtag crew of Steambots to uncover the enigmatic menace threatening the Great Sea.

In the heat of battle, precision is key. Take aim and let your shots ricochet with deadly accuracy. Every move counts as you strategise your way to victory, using your environment to your advantage and bouncing bullets off surfaces to outmaneuver your enemies.

Rauniot Released

Rauniot is now available on* and Steam, launching a point-and-click adventure for Windows from Act Normal Games. This is an alternate-history game set in 1970s Finland after an apocalyptic disaster puts humanity on the brink of extinction. The Release Trailer shows off some puzzle-solving gameplay and the description answers a few questions, but what caused this disaster is not one of them:
Rauniot takes you back to 1975 where a devastating natural disaster finally pushed civilization over the edge; continents were drowned by seas; heavy pollution has spread because of collapsed nuclear power plants and subsequent explosion. Hardly anyone has survived. The survivors are scratching a living. It was only a matter of time before riots, conflicts and wars decimated the planet. In this post-apocalyptic nightmare, children are born mutated or dead, often taking their mothers with them; fathers walk alone in bitterness and sorrow – some even driven to cannibalism as food resources slowly run out. In this sad new world nature and humanity are struggling to survive and find balance.

Rauniot challenges you to play as struggling protagonist Aino, a survivor lucky enough to be part of a group. Trust is like a razors edge, but collaboration is critical to provide protection, find food, clean water, medicine, electricity, and crucial knowledge to progress. The only thing preventing you from total isolation during these dangerous journeys are guile and determination. Have you got what it takes to master everything Rauniot throws at you?

OutRage: Fight Fest Demo

There's now a playable demo on Steam for OutRage: Fight Fest, a party brawling game for Windows from Hardball Games. This is not a mano a mano fighting game, it's a 16-player riot with support for free-for-all, team-based, and battle royale modes. There's also comedy along with physics-based mayhem which is shown off in this trailer. Here's word on the game and this new sample:
OutRage: Fight Fest is the world’s first, 16-player beat-em-up, Mega-Brawler where players punch, kick, throw, use a whole host of weapons and the destructible levels around them to party-up in hilarious, short-session, Battle Royale, Free for All and Team-Based game modes. Players cause damage to each other and the world around them to earn ‘Rage’. As their ‘Rage’ increases they’ll bulk up, hit harder and throw bigger in chaotic smash sessions where everything is a weapon.

This two-mode teaser gives players the chance to take part in a 4-player Survival match where only one contestant can be left standing. They can also try out the 8-player, team-based Domination mode where they’ll need to work together to capture and control points, or jump into the training area to hone their fighting skills.

Buckshot Roulette Sells 1M

CRITICAL REFLEX and developer Mike Klubnika announce that Buckshot Roulette has sold over 1 million units in just over a week since its launch on Steam. This success is no thanks to us, as the launch escaped our watchful eye. This game of Russian roulette has a horror-themed twist that should be apparent to anyone who understands how shotguns differ from revolvers (we kid, the gimmick here is some of the shotgun shells are empty). This announcement covers the news, saying multiplayer support is currently in the works. A new trailer celebrates the milestone, and here's more on the game:
BUCKSHOT ROULETTE is a tabletop horror take on the infamous game of Russian Roulette with a proper 12-gauge pump-action shotgun. Live and blank shells are inserted into the chamber in a hidden sequence. Next — take aim, (don’t hesitate!) and pull the trigger.

Many powerful beings entered this club before. Not a lot of them left. As the metal railings tremble to the pulse of long-lost drum machines, a ruthless Dealer awaits you. Are you willing to play a deadly game of chance with them?

HAMMER95 and Epopeia Games announce MULLET MAD JACK launches on Steam on May 15th, kicking off a 2.5D boomer shooter with a colorful anime style. As evidenced by the title's reference to Billy Ray Cyrus' favorite hairstyle, this is set in the 1980s/1990s, which is equally demonstrated in the official launch date trailer. Here's more on this throwback experience:
In an exciting journey inspired by classic anime, you will be immersed in the cyberpunk world of Mullet MadJack, set in the 90’s... 2090s to be precise. Your mission is to rescue the world's most famous influencer from the clutches of a dangerous criminal organization comprised of powerful billionaire robots.

In the future, vigilantes are addicted to dopamine, and to get their fix, you'll have to overcome deadly challenges in each skyscraper, floor by floor, all in pursuit of securing your own dopamine hit. Get ready to face each level and claim your dose of adrenaline.

Life Eater Released

Life Eater is now available on Steam, offering a dark Windows game described as a "horror fantasy kidnapping simulator." The launch trailer has a stylized look at a gameworld described as both dark fantasy and steampunk. Did we mention this is dark? Okay, you've been warned:
To delay the end of the world, you must sacrifice a number of specific - but vaguely-described - human beings every year. Use a video editing-inspired interface to discover the story of your victims' lives, one schedule block at a time. Pry into the most intimate details of your targets' schedules, and when the time is right: abduct them before the authorities can find your lair. Time is short and your list of names is long. Choose your options wisely... and pray that the dark god you serve is even real.

Out of the Blue

It's beautiful and sunny around the BlueTower right now. But the elbow I broke in my car accident a few years ago has something to say about that. It's being cranky and achy, and sure enough, the forecast calls for a little rain later. So chalk one up for my osteopathic weather reporter. What's weird is it's more likely to alert me to minor weather issues like this, but not bigger storms. Too bad, that would actually be more helpful than a warning it's going to drizzle.
