HELLDIVERS 2 Sells ~1M

This post from Johan Pilestedt, creative director at Arrowhead Studios, gives a sales estimate for HELLDIVERS 2, the PC and PlayStation first-person shooter homage to Starship Troopers. Despite some issues that are still being worked through, word is the game has sold "around" a million units since its launch last Thursday (thanks Reddit). In a previous post, Johan addresses the suggestion that the game is pay to win:
I'm partial but we really applied ourselves to not make it p2w even though items are functionally different. The only item that's p2w is the revolver - which will win you any "cool gun" competition. Only (minor) problem is that it's not that good. 🤷

Out of the Blue

Happy Super Bowl Sunday, the super bowl of unofficial holidays. I've said this before, and it's not an uncommon sentiment, but we could be talking about the outcome right now, because they should have played the game yesterday. The Monday after isn't a holiday, so having the game on Saturday would give everyone a day to recover from parties. So why do they stick with Sunday despite the clamor for a change? Because Roger Goodell gets paid $64 million a year to think the game gets good ratings because the audience on Sunday is inherently larger. You can see his point, the Super Bowl boasts 23 of the 30 most-watched television broadcasts in the United States, but Sundays comprise fewer than half the remaining programs on that list: Richard Nixon's resignation was a Thursday, the last episode of M*A*S*H was a Monday, and the O.J. chase and the Ali/Sphinks rematch were each on Fridays, traditionally the night with the lowest viewership. So I think this is an if you build it, they will come scenario and the audience would follow the game to Saturday if it was moved. I can't promise to make up the advertising shortfall if I turn out to be mistaken about this, but I sure do wish the NFL would give it a try.
