ICARUS Free Weekend

A free weekend for ICARUS is now underway on Steam, allowing players to experience this Windows PvE survival game from RocketWerkz. The game is on sale for 33% off, so you can get it on the cheap if you enjoy your sample without flying too close to the Sun. This post explains this celebrates the game's second anniversary and has more details on the game's first free weekend:
This has been in the works for some time, and we are excited to finally do one of these and give players who have been on the fence about Icarus the chance to try it out and see all the work that has gone into it over the last two years.

For those unfamiliar with what a Free Weekend is, this is a four-day period over the weekend when anyone can download Icarus and play without having to have purchased the game.

If you’ve got friends you’ve been trying to convince to get the game, this is a great time to get them to come join you with no strings attached.

All content in the Icarus base game will be playable, including Open World and Operations on Olympus. We’ve also put the game itself and a bunch of the DLC on discount so if you enjoy it, you can score a good deal to keep playing long after the Free Weekend finishes.

Meta Quest Headsets Get Steam Link

Valve announces that Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro headsets now support Steam Link. This allows owners of these head-mounted displays to play VR games from their Steam libraries wirelessly. Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered Released

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered is now available for Windows on GOG.com* and Steam, offering the chance to re-experience the third installment in the 20th century first-person shooter series. This is the latest KEX Engine conversion from Nightdive Studios. Here's a trailer showing the end result. Read on for more:
Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion is a faithful restoration of the classic first-person shooter initially released in 2000 for the Nintendo 64, upgraded through Nightdive Studios' proprietary KEX Engine for play on modern gaming devices with up to a 4K resolution at 120FPS. It joins Nightdive Studios' popular remasters of Turok and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, capping off the trilogy.

The title features upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for console gamepads with platform-specific features. American Truck Simulator: Kansas Released

SCS Software has the feeling that it's not not in Kansas anymore with the launch of new Kansas DLC on Steam for American Truck Simulator, the Windows, macOS, and Linux. This takes the transportation simulation to the Sunflower State, as seen in this Video Trailer. Here's word:

Unrailed 2: Back on Track Announced

Indoor Astronaut announces Unrailed 2: Back on Track, a sequel to Unrailed!, its co-op train game, saying this is on track for an Early Access launch next year. Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode Expansion Next Year

Kitfox and Bay 12 Games announce a free Adventure Mode expansion coming to Dwarf Fortress in April 2024. Word is: "Adventure Mode holds limitless possibilities for player stories: Write a poem and recite it in front of unsuspecting tavern-goers, join the group of hearth warriors of a local village to solve local problems, rob a tomb and become cursed by a mummy. Developer Bay 12 Games and publisher Kitfox Games announced today during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted 2023 showcase that its ambitious free Adventure Mode expansion to the Steam and Itch.io version of their 2023 D.I.C.E Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year winner, Dwarf Fortress, will be releasing in April 2024! Dwarf Fortress is also currently on a 10% off discount as part of the PC Gaming Show on Steam.

Adventure Mode is the RPG campaign mode of Dwarf Fortress, where players can create a character and freely roam the rich simulated world they have made a home in during their Fortress Mode save or start fresh in a newly generated world.

Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War - Drukhari Released

New Drukhari DLC is now available on GOG.com* and Steam, adding new content to Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War, the Windows and Linux 4X strategy game. This brings new units and game mechanics, as seen in this launch trailer. Here's a bit:
The Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Drukhari expansion features the Drukhari in all their malicious terror, from a roster of units to exciting new gameplay mechanics. The Drukhari are invigorated by Power from Pain, with additional bonuses as suffering spreads on the battlefield. Destroying enemy units rewards the player with tradable influence thanks to their Soul Hunger, while Drukhari’s foul Haemonculi renders down some captives into powerful stimulants usable by its infantry. HAWKED Early Access

Early Access to HAWKED is now underway on Steam, offering a free-to-play online PvPvE extraction shooter from MY.GAMES that's slated to also come to consoles early next year. And while we don't actually know what a lifetime supply of spacebux would look like, word is there's a chance of winning just that amid the incentives to try the game: "As a further incentive to join the Early Access, MY.GAMES has launched the ‘Renegade Rally’ campaign. Players that enlist during the rally will receive free in-game content and a chance at winning special prizes, which includes a lifetime supply of premium currency. More information on the Renegade Rally can be found on the website." Here's a new trailer and some details:
HAWKED is an extraction-shooter in which teams of up to three players or solo race to collect and extract Artifacts from a remote island called X-Isle. Players (also known as Renegades) compete against each other to secure and extract Artifacts that can only be reached by fighting monsters, other players, solving puzzles and avoiding traps.

The first team to successfully extract Artifacts from the island wins the session. To ensure that every session is rewarding, players can also extract smaller treasures, and leave the island (dead or alive) with useful currency they can spend on improving their character.

Solium Infernum in February; Demo Returns

League of Geeks announces Solium Infernum has a release date, promising to see us in hell in the remake on February 14th, while teasing a multiplayer playtest before then in early 2024. The news comes along with a Release Date Reveal Trailer showing off gameplay. It also comes with the chance to sample the grand strategy game, as the playable demo from the Steam Next Fest is back on Steam for everyone to try. In Dante's Inferno, the bureaucrats were in the eighth ring of hell, but in this version of the afterlife, they are apparently everywhere:
Solium Infernum is a political grand strategy game of subterfuge, intrigue, and betrayal set in Hell. Based on the acclaimed cult classic from Vic Davis, players fight to become the rulers of Hell’s infernal regions. The game includes both a single-player mode with all-new story-driven scenarios and skirmishes and online multiplayer with custom asynchronous matches for up to six players.

Path of Exile Affliction and Path of Exile 2 Mercenary Previews

A Path of Exile 2 Mercenary Gameplay Walkthrough Trailer introduces a new mercenary class that's coming to the action/RPG sequel. This brings a shooter elements to the game, which is a pretty dramatic change. Word is: "The Mercenary is a crossbow-wielding character class in Path of Exile 2. This class has shooter-like gameplay, swapping crossbows and ammo types on the fly to inflict deadly combo attacks on his enemies." In the meantime, Grinding Gear Games announces Affliction, the new expansion coming to the first installment in the series on December 8th. A new trailer (NSFW) from the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted has a first look at gameplay from SPINE, a gun-fu shooter in the works for PC and consoles at Vector developer Nekki. Cryptical Path Announced; Demo Released

Old Skull Games announces Cryptical Path, a roguelite, platforming action/RPG coming to PC. This has a Steam Listing showing a TBA release date, but there is a playable demo you can try right now. The Announcement Trailer takes a look, and the announcement educates us on what to expect:

Drowned Lake Announced

Publisher CRITICAL REFLEX and indie developer Monumental Collab announce Drowned Lake, a horror/fishing game, which is apparently now a genre after Black Salt Games dredged up DREDGE earlier this year. An Extended Reveal Trailer is here to reel us in, and here's word:

Ironhive Announced

Ironhive is a new deck-building, city-building strategy game in development for PC unveiled today by Brazilian developer Wondernaut Studio and publisher CRITICAL REFLEX. This is another cheery trip into a dystopian future that involves crafting, exploration, resource management, and more. A Xeet from the Destiny Team has damage control from Bungie following the launch of the Season of Wish event for Destiny 2. After some backlash, the Starter Pack was pulled from stores. Truck & Logistics Simulator has rolled out of Early Access, and is now officially available for Windows on Steam, offering a transportation game with a self-explanatory title. War of the Worlds Gameplay Footage

A Steam Listing is online for a War of the Worlds game that's so far gone unmentioned here (thanks RedEye9). This is an open-world survival game based on The War of the Worlds, H.G. Wells' sci-fi novel about an invasion from Mars. This will debut in Early Access, but does not yet have a release window. But there is a recent Survival & Exterminator Gameplay Trailer showing off almost 30 minutes of "pre-alpha" footage. Pixel Cafe is now available for Windows and consoles, offering an arcade time management sim with pixel art graphics and a protagonist named Pixel. That fake me on Twitch eventually got banned yesterday. Thank you to those who also reported it, I'm sure that helped get this cleared up. I've also had to report accounts on Facebook for impersonating a cousin not once, but twice in the past two days.
