Starminer Announced

A post on Steam from two-person developer CoolAndGoodGames announces Starminer, an interstellar mining game coming next year to Steam. Paradox Arc will be the publisher, and word is the game will start off in Early Access. The post includes an Announcement Trailer with a first look along with a first developer diary introducing the project. Here's a description:
Feel your pulse quicken while piloting your 150,000t warship between asteroids in the vacuum of space in real time. All with fully simulated physics.

Balance material requirements with power, tonnage, and size while building your fleet to maximum efficiency, piece by piece, module by module. Will you create a large number of smaller, more nimble vessels or double down on a massive station packed with firepower?

Harvest and process valuable materials from asteroids for your profit margins, or use the bountiful resources for the maintenance and expansion of your own mercenary fleet while doing missions for the highest bidders in the sector.

Against the Storm Leaves Early Access Next Month

Eremite Games and Hooded Horse announce Against the Storm will leave Early Access and officially launch on Steam and Game Pass on December 8th. A new Release Date Announcement Trailer has the latest look at this offbeat colony builder. There's also a warning about when to expect this week's update so you aren't caught off guard when it begins. Here's what to expect on version 1.0:
Then the 1.0 Update will launch on December 8. It will feature the Queen’s Hand Trial - a new mode designed for the most experienced of Viceroys.

In the Queen's Hand mode, players have one Cycle to reforge the Adamantine Seal - the game's most challenging endeavor. You start from scratch and need to be strategic about your Upgrade choices - they are an expensive commodity and you won't be able to acquire the full set.

Permadeath is present at every step of the new mode. If you abandon a settlement, you lose. If you fail to reforge the Seal in time, you lose. Those who fail will be deprived of the Upgrades they acquired and their progression in the mode will be reset. But those who emerge victorious will be awarded the title of Queen's Hand and will be granted a rare audience with the Scorched Queen herself.

Gas Station Simulator: Tidal Wave Announced

DRAGO entertainment announces new Tidal Wave DLC is coming to Steam for Gas Station Simulator, the management sim that heretofore was entirely about pumping gas on dry land. This will flood the game with new content when it comes crashing in next year, and here's a Teaser Trailer with a first look. Oddly, the video and description do not indicate that tidal waves are actually part of the DLC. But if you're looking for natural disasters, there is the promise of a potential volcano eruption:
Take a trip to a tropical island paradise, where exciting new challenges and business opportunities await. Operate a new laidback location, perfect for veteran and first time gas station managers alike.

Rent out scuba gear and surfboards to the local and visiting guests to earn extra money. Protect patrons from shark attacks by using hand cannons to fend them off.

Cater to clientele by maintaining building and equipment repairs, avoiding accidents.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series Gets DLC and Steam Release

The Expanse: A Telltale Series is now available for Windows on Steam following its debut on the Epic Games Store and consoles. That launch came just four months ago, showing they don't make exclusive windows like they used to. This episodic game is a prequel to the now-concluded TV series that marked a comeback for a revived version of the developer following its 2018 closure. All episodes from the series are now available, and the Steam launch comes with the release of an additional chapter called Archangel on the Epic Games Store and Steam. Here's a new trailer, which comes with a spoiler warning, as it shows off the whole series and the new DLC. Here's more on Archangel:
The bonus episode, starring Shohreh Aghdashloo, reprising her role as Chrisjen Avasarala, Secretary-General of the United Nations in The Expanse, also launches on Steam today. Archangel offers a brand new perspective on The Expanse: A Telltale Series, where players will experience a fateful day in the life of Chrisjen Avasarala by managing conflicts across the solar system and battling wits with rival politicians, all while navigating family drama on a day that will change her life forever.

Cities Skylines II Delays DLC for Fixes

A post to the Paradox Interactive Forums has an update on Cities Skylines II, and the criticism of the state of the city-builder sequel upon its launch last month. Colossal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen explains that plans for post-launch DLC are now on hold as the team focuses on addressing complaints from uses about performance issues and all those bugs. The post outlines current priorities as performance improvements, bug fixed and editor/mod support. This forum post has an updated roadmap for the expansion pass content, saying the Beach Properties Asset Pack and Deluxe Relax Radio Station are planned for Q1 2024 and Modern Architecture & Urban Promenades Content Creator Packs are coming in Q2 of 2024 along with more radio stations. As for the patch, word is its launch is up in the air: "The next patch is not yet scheduled as it has performance improvements pending that we absolutely want to include in it." Here's the plan:
Once the PC version is where we want it to be, we will be focusing on the console release and DLC content. We are committed to bringing the marketed DLC content to you, but it will not be landing in the originally promoted schedule. The first Asset Pack, Beach Properties, has been worked on by our artists’ and our outsourcing partner, but we’ll only implement them after the asset fix and performance work are completed to our satisfaction. I apologize for the delay, but we must not rush new content out before the base is ready for it. This also stands for the Content Creator Packs and Radio stations. Stay tuned for more information on these later!

Out of the Blue

We recently made a small change to our coffee routine that has turned out more helpful than I expected. During a recent shopping trip our big box store was out of the big bags of Starbucks French Roast coffee beans, so we got some house blend. Not surprisingly, the coffee tasted a bit less robust at first. But I it was a surprise that I was able to adjust so quickly, as it tastes perfectly fine to me now. So I'm viewing this as good news, because I was used to finding coffee other than my own less satisfying too. But now that I've made my adjustment, this will go a lot better for me. I'm sure I'll still prefer my own over the coffee most places make, but I expect to like coffee on the go a lot better now.
