Star Citizen Free Fly Event

Cloud Imperium Games announces the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo is now underway, a virtual showroom of spacecraft from Star Citizen and Squadron 42, the crowdfunded space exploration games. This leans into the car dealership mechanic, as virtual ship sales have been a big part of the crowdfunding that's kept the games in development for well over a decade. But besides showing off and selling these ships, there are test-drives to be had in another Free Fly Event. This means almost everything on display is available to fly or drive for free between now and the end of the month. Here's a trailer and word:
During the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo, anyone can explore Star Citizen's incredible Persistent Universe for free. Even if you don't have a Star Citizen Game Package, you can try it for free and fly to the in-game event in style with Drake's new starter ship, the Cutter, which we're loaning to all players for free for the duration of the event.

Starting on November 17 (4pm UTC), each day a different ship manufacturer will take over one of the expo halls for 48 hours. There's something new to see every day, and nearly everything on display is available to test-fly for free!

Out of the Blue

Happy birthday Graham Parker, who turns 72 today. I feel like everyone should have at least one favorite musical artist that most people don't get, and Graham is mine. His music and lyrics are both smart and clever, as well as catchy, funny, poignant, and exceedingly honest. He made a decent splash in the 1980s, but has mostly faded into obscurity since. But that never slowed down his creative drive, and he's continues to put out great stuff over the years, and he just released a new album called Last Chance To Learn The Twist. We last got to see him in in 2015 when he was just 63 years old. But I'd gladly see him perform again, and hope to get the chance.

Get Half-Life 25th Anniversary Version for Free

Valve offers a Half-Life 25th Anniversary Update discussing news related to Sunday's quarter-century anniversary of the launch of the classic first-person shooter. The headline is that the game is currently free, so on the off chance you don't own it already, you can download Half-Life for Windows, macOS, and Linux from Steam for keeps right now. This is an updated version, and this page has details on all that's changed. It now includes the integration of Half-Life Uplink, four new multiplayer maps, updated graphics settings, controller and Steam networking support, Steam Deck support, UI scaling, restored content, and content from an obscure 1999 disc called Half-Life Further Data. There are also new sprays, bugfixes, wallpapers, and more. Lastly, the previous version of the game is still accessible as a public beta branch. Here's a new Half-Life: 25th Anniversary Documentary, and here's word:
We launched Half-Life on November 19th, 1998. We are very proud of what we built back then and we remain extremely grateful for the community of players who have been enjoying it ever since. The game hasn't received as much attention in recent years as many other titles in our catalog, so we thought this milestone was a great opportunity to spruce up the player experience and add some fun new ways to play the game.

The same game you played in 1998 - restored, augmented, and revitalized

We created a new webpage to showcase all the updates in detail, but here's a quick rundown of the updates to the base game:

Fortnite Adds Voice Reporting

Epic announces that voice reporting is now available in Fortnite, the battle royale shooter. Abusive players can now be reported by forwarding audio evidence of their violations of the game's code of conduct. Of course snitches get stitches, so don't let anyone know you're wearing a wire. The post explains that Epic is not recording audio centrally, and the system relies on local records on user machines that Epic can't access without you sending them in. Here's more on the game's new cockpit voice recorder:
When voice reporting is on, the last five minutes of voice chat audio are captured on a rolling basis. This means only the immediate last five minutes of audio is reportable. As new audio is captured, any previous audio that's more than five minutes old is automatically deleted. Voice chat audio is securely captured on your device — for example your gaming console or PC — not the Epic Games servers.

If you report a conversation, the voice chat audio captured from the last five minutes will be uploaded with the report and sent to Epic moderators for review. You can see if voice reporting is currently on or off in the Sidebar. Note: Epic has no way of accessing any voice chat audio unless voice reporting is on and a participant submits a voice report.

Out of the Blue

‘It never ends’- the book club that spent 28 years reading Finnegans Wake. Trolling James Joyce pretty hard considering he's not around to appreciate it. After all the book "only" took 17 years to write. On the other hand, it's pretty easy to make the case that Joyce was trolling the world when he wrote a novel described as "628 pages of things that look like typographic errors." Congrats to the club for crossing the finish line.
