Bungie Announces Marathon

Bungie announces Marathon, a PvP extraction shooter in the works for PC and consoles with full crossplay and cross-save capabilities. Here's the Official Announce Trailer with a cinematic introduction. The game does not yet carry a release date, but the Marathon Website is here to help us keep up with development. The announcement mentions this connects to the company's "legendary history," but doesn't point out the connection. Bungie already released a first-person shooter titled Marathon back in 1994. This included some innovations for the fledgling genre, but was a Macintosh exclusive, so most gamers didn't get to play it, though the sequel, Marathon 2: Durandal, did eventually come to PC. There's no indication of how the new Marathon is considered to be connected to the original, if at all:
Today Bungie took the next step in its evolution into a multi-game studio with the announcement of its next game: Marathon, a new sci-fi extraction shooter and the first completely new project from the studio in more than a decade. Marathon is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC with full cross save and cross play, and no release date has been announced. Coinciding with the announcement, Bungie released the first CGI trailer for the game, showing off a first look at the world of Marathon, a glimpse of the player characters—known in game as “Runners”—and the game’s bold visual style.

A PvP-focused extraction shooter set on the mysterious planet of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon will see players inhabit the bodies of Runners, cybernetic mercenaries who have been designed to survive the planet’s harsh environments, exploring the lost colony that once inhabited Tau Ceti’s surface. Players will engage solo or in crews of three, searching for mysterious alien artifacts, as well as for valuable loot and new weapons and gear that they can add to their collection.

Alan Wake 2 in October

The PlayStation.Blog has an update from Remedy Entertainment on Alan Wake 2, the long-awaited action/adventure sequel. The headline is the release date saying the game will come to PlayStation 5 on October 17th. This is Sony's blog, which probably explains why the PC and Xbox editions go unmentioned. But Epic Games Store and Xbox logos adorn the end of this new Gameplay Reveal Trailer. The post also discusses what to expect from the game and offers reassurances to players who never played the original:
Never played the first Alan Wake (or Alan Wake Remastered)? No need to worry, as players who may have missed out on the first game can easily dive into the sequel without any prior experience or knowledge of the game’s story. It was important for us to create an approachable experience for new players without forgetting our long-standing fans. Another key pillar for us was ensuring that we respect fundamental survival horror principles: make the gameplay challenging for experienced players yet easy to navigate for those who want to focus on enjoying the game’s rich, layered story.

Step into the role of a young Basim – from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – who is haunted by visions as he grows from common street thief to master Assassin. Liberte Liberated from Early Access

Liberte (aka Liberté) has completed Early Access and is now officially available for Windows on GOG.com,* Humble Store,* and Steam. This roguelite deckbuilder is quite revolutionary, as it's set in and around the French Revolution. Out of the Blue

Okay, I have to swear off takeout food for a while after picking up yet another case of food poisoning! This one seemed pretty bad, and I thought I might "call in sick" this morning. That's pretty unprecedented, so you know it was severe. Thankfully I turned a corner quickly, and I feel fine now. But this was extreme for a while, and after a few recent bouts in rapid succession, I need to give my poor system a break.

Systemic Round-up
Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.
