System Shock Delayed to May

You may or may not be shocked to hear that Nightdive Studios has announced a delay to System Shock, its remake of the classic 1994 FPS action/RPG. Just a couple of months ago we were told to expect this in March, but that turns out to have been a couple of months off. Word is the game's launch is now expected on May 30th:
The wait is (almost) over. The PC edition of System Shock – the fully fledged remake of the groundbreaking original from 1994 – will go on sale on Tuesday 30 May this year.

We had hoped to bring the game to market by the end of March, but that turned out to be just beyond our reach; we are after all merely human (unlike Shodan!)

The System Shock remake combines the cult gameplay of the iconic original game with all-new HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface and all-new sounds and music. From never before seen enemies and quality of life gameplay tweaks, to a revamped hacking system and visceral new combat options featuring a brutal dismemberment system, the System Shock remake welcomes players new and old back to Citadel Station and the arms of the delightfully villainous SHODAN.

Out of the Blue

Happy Pi Day! It warms one's geeky heart to see this celebration of circular logic has become so mainstream. MrsBlue and I might have considered celebrating today with a pizza pie, but the BlueTower is currently being inundated by snow. It came down all through the night and is expected to continue all day. I've seen predictions that accumulations could be as much as a foot. It will probably be less than that, but it's pretty safe to say I won't be making any pizza runs today. I hope everyone in the path of this storm is properly hunkered down.

Battlefield™ 2042 is a first-person shooter that marks the return to the iconic all-out warfare of the franchise. Adapt and overcome in a near-future world transformed by disorder. Bleak Faith: Forsaken/Elden Ring Animations Follow-up

A post on Steam has a follow-up to the the controversy surrounding some animations in Bleak Faith: Forsaken appearing to be identical to some in Elden Ring. This repeats a previous assertion that the animations were purchased from a third-party. Archangel Studios says it is not ignoring the possibility that this is a copyright violation, and work is underway to replace the animations in question:
“Pursuant to the Marketplace Distribution Agreement, each Marketplace seller represents and warrants to Epic that they have appropriate rights to upload their content. As with any store that hosts third-party content, however, Epic is not in a position to independently verify such rights, and Epic makes no such guarantee to purchasers of the content.”

So essentially, they state they cannot verify the copyright of the animation packages purchased through their store.

This is not satisfactory for us and so we have taken the decision to replace the assets purchased from the store over the next several days. (Some changes we included in the recent patches, and more are coming in the next few days) Certainly this has been a huge lesson for us and hopefully other indie creators out there too that assets on these storefronts seemingly cannot be purchased in good faith.

Star Citizen Adds Persistence

A new alpha patch arrived Saturday in Star Citizen, updating the space-based everything to all people game to version 3.18. As noted, this update is called "Lasting Memories," as it adds Persistent Entity Streaming (PES) promising "real, universal persistence." Word is: "With this new tech, all physical objects moved or placed by players will be dynamically tracked on the server they were moved on and remain in their new locations." So the good news is this is further progress towards the game's ambitions. The bad news is familiar, and also relates to persistence. The crowdfunded game is now on year 11 of what was originally planned as a two-year development cycle and it's not in beta yet. Here's the Lasting Legacies Trailer and here's more:
Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) today announced the release of the Star Citizen – Alpha 3.18: Lasting Legacies update. Available now, Lasting Legacies marks a giant technical leap forward on Star Citizen’s journey to deliver real, universal persistence with the addition of Persistent Entity Streaming (PES). With this new tech, all physical objects moved or placed by players will be dynamically tracked on the server they were moved on and remain in their new locations. Players can now leave their mark for other players to find or encounter the aftermath of other players’ actions when they log in, creating one of the most immersive and “lived-in” experiences ever seen in games. PES represents the largest significant technical update in the game’s history and is a critical addition in laying the foundation for full in-game persistence and Server Meshing that will unlock a new level of immersion in the ‘verse.

Last of Us, Part I PC Specs Update Includes Iron Galaxy Credit

Remember those Last of Us, Part I PC specs from last week? Well, they are so last week, as the graphic in the PlayStation.Blog Post has been changed since it was originally posted. The recommended Radeon RX 5800XT has been replaced by the Radeon RX 5700XT and the RX 7900XTX is now listed in place of the Ultra RX7900 XT. Of greater concern is the addition of the Iron Galaxy logo to credit the developer helping create the PC edition. As noted on DSOGaming, Iron Galaxy has had a hand in problematic PC ports in the past, such as Batman: Arkham Knight and the UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection. Here are the updated PC specs:

I was so caught up in the time change yesterday I didn't really think about the Oscars last night. We see most movies at home, so we're always a year behind anyway. So the only nominees we've seen so far are Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, TAR, and ELVIS. But this also means I forgot to link to link to loonyboi's annual Oscar picks. Old comrade crushed it as usual, so hats off to him. And hats off to the winners. Competitive acting is tough... hopefully all the competitors pass their tests for performance enhancing drugs.
