Hi-Fi RUSH Released

A surprise from today's Bethesda Softworks showcase is the announcement of Hi-Fi RUSH, an action game from Tango Gameworks where you beat your foes with rhythm. The surprise is this is available right now for PC, Xbox, and Game Pass, and you can pick up the Windows edition on Steam. The Official Launch Trailer catches us up with the "how we got here trope." Here's more:
Feel the beat as wannabe rockstar Chai and his ragtag team of allies rebel against an evil tech megacorp with raucous rhythm combat! From Tango Gameworks, the studio that brought you The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo (no, really) comes Hi-Fi RUSH, an all-new action game where the characters, world and combat stylishly sync to the music!

Labeled ‘defective’ after a shady corporate experiment mistakenly fuses a music player to his heart, Chai must now fight for his freedom in a slick animated world where everything – platforming puzzles, enemy attacks and even the colorful gags & banter - are synced to the beat.

More news from Bethesda is the announcement of Necrom, a new expansion coming to The Elder Scrolls Online on all platforms on June 5th. There are a few articles on the official website for the MMORPG covering the news. There's one covering Necrom Editions & Pre-Purchase Rewards, a reveal of Necrom’s Telvanni Peninsula & Apocrypha Zones, and another introducing the New Arcanist Class. The final bit unveils DLC called Scribes of Fate which will arrive in March and another unannounced DLC that will arrive later this year. GOG.com 2022 Recap

A post on GOG.com talks a look back at last year, discussing the games released over the course of 2022 on the store. They offer infographics detailing the 264+ petabytes of data the store served up and the over 137 million hours of gameplay this provided. Here's the big picture:
That’s right, when it comes to the arrivals on GOG we’ve released 684 games! And that’s not counting the various packs, bundles, special editions and DLCs. But we won’t stop there, with our love for games, we’ll try to push those numbers even higher!

As you can also see, the best-selling 2022 releases include Songs of Conquest, ELEX II and Old World (not a surprise here, all of them are excellent titles). With classic bestsellers The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition takes the cake alongside Alien: Isolation and The Wheel of Time. We are incredibly glad you’ve enjoyed them so much!

The Day Before Delayed Again

Here's an odd story about the status of The Day Before, an Unreal Engine 5 MMORPG that was last expected on March 1st. Yesterday the game's Steam listing disappeared, causing concern that the project was cancelled or in trouble. In a now-deleted update, developer Fntastic chalked this up to "a minor technical difficulty with our game's visibility," calling this "a known bug that has affected multiple titles in the past." This now appears to be bullshit, as a subsequent tweet admits a failure to trademark the game's title. Without further explanation, this claims this is the reason its release is now being delayed until November 10th, though the mentioned goal "to deliver you the best game possible" suggests further development time is welcome:
Previously, we were not aware of the existence of claims. We found out about this only on January 19, 2023, when we received a complaint from him and a request to contact him.

Now we find out all the circumstances of the incident and we will definitely solve everything.

We previously planned to post a lengthy gameplay video later this month, but we'll have to sort this issue out first. We will post a video asap.

As a result, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the launch to November 10, 2023. We understand this may disappoint many of our fans, however we want to ensure we release the best possible game.

A reimagined version of this vertically scrolling shooter first released for the Atari 2600 in 1981 is coming to PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and VCS this (northern) spring. Word is the game will be on display along with two other titles which haven't yet been announced in March at the 2023 Game Developers Conference. The Announcement Trailer shows the modernization in the recharged version of the game. Here's more:
In Caverns of Mars: Recharged, players progress through 30 unique missions set within three primary “depths” of Mars, descending deeper and deeper into enemy territory. Blast through oncoming hostile fire, bull through debris and obstructions, and dodge other obstacles all while keeping a close eye on fuel and ammo reserves. Featuring a unique local co-op mode, players can team up with one partner assigned to navigation while the other player shoots the drone!

Keeping in tune with the rest of the Atari Recharged series, Caverns of Mars: Recharged includes a global leaderboard where players can compete for points or speed, as well as an original soundtrack from award-winning artist and composer Megan McDuffee.

Out of the Blue

It appears we may be lucking out on the weather in the area of the BlueTower today. Yesterday the forecast suggested we would be buried in snow today, and the HOA mailing list was abuzz with talk of preparations for digging out. But after a dusting this morning, this ended fairly abruptly. I thought this might just be a temporary pause, but an updated weather report now indicates we're to expect 0.2" of accumulation at most. That's fine by me. I like my hamburgers medium rare, but this well done nothingburger is a treat.
