SteamWorld Build Demo

Publisher Thunderful and internal studio The Station announce SteamWorld Build, a new installment in the series coming later this year to PC and consoles. This continues the SteamWorld tradition of supplementing the strategy of city building with exploration and exploitation of all that lies below the surface. Check out the Announcement Trailer to see if this is something you might dig. If so, there's a playable demo on GOG.com and Steam to check out right now. Here's more:
In SteamWorld Build, you are the architect of a SteamWorld mining town. Break ground and raise houses for your steambot citizens, keep them fed and provide some rootin'-tootin' entertainment. You’ll also venture into the abandoned mine sitting under your town, rumoured to be filled with ancient tech that holds the key to escaping impending doom. Use the natural resources above ground and the abundant ores buried in the mine to expand your town. Stimulate new residential tiers to join the quest to dig deeper, unearth untold riches and ultimately help them to hightail it off the planet!

SteamWorld Build has been developed on PC and console simultaneously, ensuring that the game’s design, UX and UI all work just as well with a controller in hand, as they do with mouse and keyboard. The game features a user-friendly interface and mechanics designed to cater to both experienced players and newcomers to the city builder genre, further refined by three difficulty levels to choose from.

Here's word on the demo: "Try to survive the harsh alien conditions all by your lonesome or join up with a crew in the multiplayer mode. The world is yours to explore!" Here's more on the game:

From these desperate beginnings, an open-ended sandbox awaits.

This isn’t Earth. You’ll battle changing weather conditions while trying to establish your new life. You may even have to go underground to escape blizzards, radiation storms, and more in randomly generated worlds!

Out of the Blue

I got the all-clear on spoiling the Giants game, so I can acknowledge my disappointment that the team's season has come to an end. They exceeded even the most optimistic expectations this season, so this isn't as painful as all that. But this is a team that's won two Super Bowls by getting hot at the right time and surprising everyone, so it was hard to avoid hoping that type of lightning could strike again. Oh well, with my rooting interest ended, I can just relish in the fact that the NFL's final four are all terrific teams. So there's the prospect of some great contests in the three remaining postseason games. Congrats to the fans of the conference finalists.
