Alder Choke Demo

Publisher Fulqrum and developer Madame Cyclone announce Alder Choke, a "quirky," comedy/horror action game planned for release on PC digital stores next year. This promises to be challenging, as the announcement references smashed peripherals. This quirkiness and difficulty are said to be difficult to describe, but an Announcement Trailer and a playable demo on Steam are here to overcome that obstacle. Here's what's up:
Alder Choke, developed by the indie studio Madame Cyclone and published by Fulqrum Publishing, has just been announced. It is a story told through tears and deaths. Many, many deaths. Alder Choke is truly a game that needs to be experienced rather than described, which is why there is a free demo available now on Steam.

Alder Choke is a uniquely quirky game, combining brutally difficult, yet addictive combat with a dark story firmly set in the comedy-horror genre. Escape a haunting dream in a forest filled with crawlers, eavesdroppers and bargain hunters.

Be careful, these creatures don’t forgive mistakes. Press GOOD buttons, have SWEET timing, and you get a CHANCE at killing them. But let’s face reality here, buddy. You WILL fail and blame us. Countless times. And that’s ok. You like it, we know you do.

CULTIC Next Month

Developer Jasozz Games and publisher 3D Realms announce October 13th is the release date for CULTIC, a throwback first-person shooter inspired by the Blood series. This was not previously known to be an episodic game, but the announcement tells us this is when to expect Chapter One at that time and that Chapter Two will be a "future release." In the meantime, the playable demo is still available on Steam and the Release Date Announcement Trailer shows off gameplay. We also have some details on a wave-based survival mode:
Employ quick-witted thinking while pushing back against the vicious cultists thirsting for the detective’s demise. Wield powerful, upgradeable mid-century weapons, including the C96, STEN MK. V, a sawed-off coach gun, TNT, and more. Out of bullets? Dash, slide, and improvise with interactive environmental objects. ‘90s-inspired voxels and sprites evoke a pulse-pounding love letter to retro shooters with a touch of modern flair.

Beyond the levels of CULTIC’s first chapter, a wave-based Survival mode inspired by Resident Evil 4’s “The Mercenaries” and Killing Floor offers high replayability. Scrounge together money with each kill and buy weapons, ammo, health and armor between waves. Fight to reach the top of global leaderboards, mastering multiple difficulties.

Ashfall Announced

Legendary Star Studio announces Ashfall, a post-apocalyptic MMORPG/third-person shooter coming to PC and mobile devices next year. Earlier this year came vague news of an NFT game called Ashfall, but it doesn't seem like this is the same project, so there's something to be sorted out here. The Chinese developer debuted the title at the Tokyo Game Show with a Premiere Trailer and a Gameplay Video. It also has an official website and a Steam Listing, which mention neither NFTs nor Web3. What is mentioned is the pedigree of the game's music, as the project includes the work of Hans Zimmer, Inon Zur, and Steve Mazzaro. Here's word on the game's post-apocalyptic setting:
Ashfall is set in a post-apocalyptic world that has been scorched by nuclear war, as mankind’s greatest creation once turned against them. The war was caused by a vast artificial intelligence that betrayed humanity and attempted to destroy all life on the planet, save for the robots. Humanity survived, however, and the last humans created pockets of civilization among the ruins of their former glory. Natural resources are dwindling and the last vestiges of mankind battle each other for supplies, but all is not lost, as hope lies on with the rumours of the “Core of Creation”, which may be able to heal the shattered land. The players take on the role of Wanderers: soldiers and explorers who are tasked with leaving the safety of their Vault and searching the dangerous lands, in the hope of finding mankind’s salvation.

Out of the Blue

Happy Oktoberfest 2022! I'm not a big beer drinker, but despite my British surname I am half German, so I think I am officially compelled to celebrate. We don't have plans to attend any local commemorations of the occasion. But recalling what an excellent time I've had at prior Oktoberfests has me regretting this. Prost! Oans, zwoa, drei, gsuffa!
