Atlas Fallen Announced

Xbox Wire has details from Deck13 Interactive art director James Lowe on Atlas Fallen, a newly announced action/RPG in a fantasy setting. This is slated to come to PC and consoles next year. The game is introduced via this Reveal Trailer with a sandy, cinematic look at the concept. Try not to think about Anakin Skywalker as you read the description:
Sand is everywhere in Atlas Fallen. It’s a timeless world with a vast landscape of dunes where you’ll encounter a few human settlements, as well as the scattered ruins of an ancient civilization. Little is known about the origins of this devastated world at the beginning of the game, only that mankind lives under the oppression of gods. A large part of humanity is known as the Unnamed; deprived of identity, the individuals who share this status spend their existence digging Essence from the soil – what seems to be the source of Earth’s energy.

Starting out as an Unnamed, our hero’s journey begins when he discovers the Gauntlet: a weapon infused with Essence, whose power can command sand. Once acquired, our hero has the power to rise against the oppressors and liberate mankind! So that’s just what you’ll set out for when you play Atlas Fallen, using the Gauntlet to create powerful, sand-shaped weapons, to lift buried structures from the ground, and to glide through the sand and in the air.

Moonbreaker Announced

This announcement unveils Moonbreaker, a turn-based strategy game played on a virtual tabletop in the works at Unknown Worlds. This recreates the world of miniature gaming, including the art of hand-painting your figurines. Here's a Gameplay Reveal Trailer and here's word:
Using our in-game painting tool, you can add your own style to every single Unit. This system was made with traditional miniature painting in mind, but with a few added digital benefits, like an undo button! Paint your Roster in matching colors or give every Unit its own unique look. You can also give your Roster a customized banner, making every aspect tailored to your preference. If painting isn’t for you, every Unit will also ship with a default paint job, which were all painted using the in-game tools by professional miniature painters!

Moonbreaker is set in an expansive sci-fi universe, which we collaborated on closely with renowned author Brandon Sanderson. We’ll be transporting you to The Reaches, a solar system of moons held in orbit by a scarce resource called Cinder. You’ll learn a lot more about the universe through fully-produced and voice-acted audio dramas, which will be released alongside Early Access and beyond.

Battlefield 2042 Getting Classy

You stay classy, San Diego! A post from Electronic Arts discusses upcoming changes to Battlefield 2042. The newest installment in the military shooter series launched with a new specialist system that supplanted the traditional Battlefield classes. It seems there's some sellers remorse here, as word is there are changes in the works that will feature a return of the class system. The post is pretty lengthy, but the opening offers a condensed view of the plan:
The biggest point of feedback we’ve heard from you around Specialists is that their current design means you’ve lost the feeling of Class Identity and a more defined sense of role on the Battlefield.

We’re working to assign our Specialists into one of four recognisable Classes, and redefining the gear and equipment that they’ll have access to, to shape a more defined and understandable role on the Battlefield that you are used to.

Return to Monkey Island Next Month

Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games brought a new Return to Monkey Island trailer to gamescom. This features arm-waving marketing expert Stan S. Stanman stanning for the game. Stan also reveals a release date, saying we can expect to live up to the title of the adventure sequel on September 19th. The game can now be preordered, but credit to Devolver for keeping it real with a preorder bonus that mocks the whole concept while also goofing on a memorable Oblivion DLC mishap: "Revealed during today’s Gamescom Opening Night Live event, wannabe pirates can pre-order Return to Monkey Island now and begin their adventure with a highly exclusive and entirely useless Horse Armor in their inventory." Here's a bit on the game itself:
The tangled history of Monkey Island’s most famous secret leads Guybrush Threepwood - intrepid hero, leather jacket salesman and mighty pirate - to embark on a new swash-buckling adventure through the Caribbean, determined to uncover the elusive secret once and for all. No trip back to Mêlée Island would be complete without his old friends (and foes), but while Guybrush and the evil LeChuck look certain to clash on the high seas once more, a new crew of Pirate Leaders seems to have arrived to spoil the party.

Join the hilarious misadventures of Guybrush in Return to Monkey Island, the sequel penned by series originators Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman. Brought to life with stunning new visuals by Rex Crowle (Knights & Bikes, Tearaway), an all-new score from the original composers and Dominic Armato returning as the voice of Guybrush Threepwood to lead an all-star VO cast, Return to Monkey Island will include all new intuitive controls, accessibility features and even a few jokes.

Saints Row Released

Saints Row is now available for Windows via the Epic Games Store and for consoles, offering the latest installment in the open-world action series. If you missed it, we posted a roundup of reviews yesterday. The live action launch trailer is an interesting choice, given the loose relationship the series has always had with reality. So you know how the Fast and Furious series is said to be all about family? Turns out Saints Row is all about community:
Because really, beyond the cash, guns, cash, pimped-out rides, and cash, the Saints are really about one thing: community. This generation of Saints is no different. Will they blast the city with bazooka-fueled chaos and hijack your car straight from gliding in a wingsuit? Sure, but they do it with love. Of course, this is nothing new to the folks living in Santo Ileso.

Help Santo Ileso keep it weird with the game’s Boss Factory character creation suite. As one of the most robust character creators in gaming, Boss Factory pushes players to experiment with every part of your Boss, expressing themselves as they truly want to be seen. If you want to ditch the cowboy getup and go for something a bit more classy, say, a purple suit or a head-to-toe coat of gold spray paint, it can be done anytime, anywhere. Smash that customization button and take total design control of the new Saints HQ and the gang themselves. Dress up your gangsters, decide what they ride, and trick out your pad. You’re the boss, and what you say goes.

Yars: Recharged Released

Atari announces Yars: Recharged has charged out, offering an updated version of Yars' Revenge, now with more pixels and less possessive punctuation. This is available on PC and consoles, and the Windows/macOS edition can be picked up from the Epic Games Store while the version on Steam also boasts SteamOS/Linux support. Here's the Release Trailer and here are some details to get you charged up:
In Yars: Recharged, players launch a daring attack against the enemy homeworld, which is guarded by mechanical hives that pulse deadly cannons and emit flurries of swirling missiles. Shoot ranged attacks while utilizing pockets of safety amongst the hail of incoming fire, and then charge forward in daring forays to chip away at enemy defenses. Gather enough energy by destroying the enemy’s shields and you can power up your massively destructive Zorlon cannon, which sends searing blasts of golden energy into the enemy hive.

Credited as the first video game to be released with a backstory, Yars’ Revenge was the most popular title released on the Atari 2600, spawning two sequels, both of which also received an official Atari 2600 cartridge release this year through Atari XP. In the original, creator Howard Scott Warshaw sought to overwhelm players with audio, movement, and color as the game progressed. Drawing inspiration from its predecessor, the Recharged team incorporated this motif into Yars: Recharged, layering in more color, movement, visual cues, and complex graphics.
