High On Life Delayed

This tweet has the news that High On Life is delayed. This first-person shooter is the brainchild of Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland involving the struggle against an alien insect cartel that abuses humans as drugs. This had been expected in October, but the launch has been pushed back to December 13th. The explanation does mention squashing bugs, but does not admit that maybe the team has been hitting the human pipe too hard:
We have good news and bad news. Feel free to choose the option you'd prefer to read first; we won't meddle with your free will.

THE GOOD NEWS: High On Life is still coming in 2022! The team at squanch games is working hard towards developing the best gaming experience to hit your screens, and a little extra time to squash some bugs never hurts. With that in mind, our new launch date is set to December 13, 2022.

THE BAD NEWS: It's a game delay, sorry! Because we're making you wait an additional 6-ish weeks, please accept the linked animation as an apology.

High On Life will be available via Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC's, Day One on Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Thank you for your continued patience and support!

EA SPORTS announces the launch of Madden NFL 23, the latest iteration of the long-running officially licensed tackle football simulation. This is for PC and consoles, and the Windows edition can be purchased through Origin, the Epic Games Store, and Steam. As is usually the case, this game turns the usual dynamic on its head by offering advances on consoles that are not available on PC:

FieldSENSE delivers deeper realism on the field through animation branching technology that enables Hit Everything to redefine interactions on defense, while new mechanics such as 360 Cuts allow players to change direction on a dime with ball-carriers, and Skill Based Passing offers players complete control to place the ball exactly where they want. Plus, improvements to core gameplay systems bring a new level of balance with upgrades to defensive coverages, the pass rush, and containing mobile quarterbacks.

Diablo IV Microtransaction Reassurance

The latest Diablo IV Quarterly Update seeks to reassure gamers about monetization plans for Diablo IV. The lengthy post includes word from Kegan Clark, director of product for the action/RPG sequel. explaining how its Cosmetics Shop and Season Pass will not provide any gameplay advantages: "As we’ve discussed previously, Diablo IV will be a full-price game with a Cosmetics Shop and Season Pass—none of which provide any pay-for-power options. Our goal in designing our in-game purchases is that we want to create beautiful things which add value to players’ experience of the game." Here's more:
The Season Pass has Free Tiers and Premium Tiers. Throughout the pass players can earn a variety of rewards for free, just by playing. At any point during the Season, players can purchase the Premium Pass to unlock the ability to earn Premium rewards tiers containing seasonally themed Cosmetics and Premium Currency.

The Season Pass awards cosmetics. Like the Shop, these don’t affect gameplay. Additionally, certain cosmetic types are exclusive to the Season Pass.

The Season Pass awards Premium Currency. Players can spend this currency on cosmetics offered in the shop.

Cursed to Golf Released

Fore! Cursed to Golf is now available for Windows on Steam and for consoles, offering a platformer that developer Chuhai Labs and publisher Thunderful call "the first ever Golflike." The launch trailer is here to help illustrate what that means. Here's a description that suggests Golf Hell would be a logical title if this one scores a sequel:

Legend says that playing through the devious courses across Golf Purgatory will get you back to the land of the living and, more importantly, to the trophy you were about to win. Crypto Sends Untamed Isles Into Hiatus

A post on Steam announces development of Untamed Isles is now in "hiatus." The game was officially announced just a month ago as a monster collecting game with a "unique" limb-swapping feature. It turns out the game also "leaned into the crypto market" which has left it broke. Undeterred the developers at Phat Loot are "confident" the project will resume once "the crypto situation is resolved." As noted on Kotaku, purchases of pre-order packs are being refunded, but Kickstarter backers are out of luck: "Due to our cash reserves being empty, we are not in a position to refund our initial backers. We are truly sorry about this and wish this scenario was different." Here's the news:
Untamed Isles is a very ambitious title being an open-world monster-catching MMORPG. To work on this project we brought more than 70 staff members on board and we were working relentlessly for more than 2 years to build the game we all were dreaming about. The truth is that the cost of development is high and there were lots of bumps on our way to this moment. Since we started the journey in 2020, the economic landscape has changed dramatically both generally and specifically for cryptocurrency, and we are not confident in the current market. We ran out of financial resources and we can’t carry on the development at this moment.

We leaned into the crypto market and expanded rapidly off the back of the positive interest. When the crash came, we ended up heavily exposed with too short of a runway. The game remains game-first, crypto-second in design, but crypto funds have become, and remain, essential in getting us to the release. Unlike many of the projects that have foundered in the storm, we actually have a great game design that could stand on its own two feet. But until the crypto situation is resolved - and we're confident it will be at some stage - then we have to hibernate development on this project.

Out of the Blue

Our HOA put out a bulk dumpster yesterday to coincide with the new rules which make it more difficult to grill around here. Apparently this filled up in under an hour, and they are bringing in a fresh dumpster today. I can only hope that most of the discarded grills were as well-worn as ours was, because contemplating all that waste is disheartening.

Disheartened Round-up
