Aimjunkies Aims to Continue Cheating Destiny

TorrentFreak has word that Phoenix Digital Group is preparing subpoenas as part of a legal battle between cheat vendor AimJunkies and Bungie, who sued the company last year for selling cheats for Destiny 2 (thanks IGN). Those charges were later dismissed, but the door was left open for further action. Apparently that's what we are in for, as the cheat vendor seems determined to prove its attempts to profit off of the game at the expense of fair play are legal. The subpoenas are said to target Google, PayPal, and Valve, and sound pretty wild. Among other things, they seek access to the Steam source code to make some sort of point about overlays, and detailed sales records in an effort to prove selling cheats actually benefited the game. The report includes this PDF with a statement from Phoenix Digital Group which, ironically, threatens legal action against those "who violated [their] Copyrights and Terms of Service." From the sound of it, this may not have been prepared by a lawyer:
Bungie also claims that we caused grievous harm to their game when in fact some of their most popular months of player counts and sales were during the time Aimjunkies offered their software products. We believe an intent to gather actionable proof of that and disprove another one of their wild assertions.

Do not believe everything you read in their filings. In fact do not believe 90% of what they assert in their filings. We believe Bungie and their counsel apparently believe the more s*** you throw at the wall the greater the possibility of something sticking with the court, no matter how ridiculous or absurd it is in the real world.

Understand cheating is not illegal and the game companies want to make it illegal because they cannot govern their own players. They are looking to the courts to do what they "Bungie" are impotent to do on their own, even with the vast resources and technologies at their disposal. They would rather suffer death by a thousand cuts than admit this is not the way to fix the problem.

Whateverland Next Month

Caligari Games announces Whateverland will arrive on September 15th, offering a point-and-click adventure for Windows. This takes place in a surreal seting inspired by the works of Tim Burton, as seen in this trailer. This is coming to Windows on* (where there's a free prologue) and Steam (where there's a playable demo). The premise is based on an imaginative take on the afterlife, which is somewhat like an escape room. In a twist, the game also includes a "unique in-game turn-based board game." Here's word:
Whateverland, a world where morally grey souls are banished and transformed in a darkly comical way into forms befitting their souls’ selfish desires, ends up being the perfect place for professional thief Vincent. Stranded in this weird place, Vincent must seek an escape out of a makeshift society full of people no one would ever (willingly) get a drink with alongside a newfound–and not-so-helpful–sidekick Nick.

Discover new puzzles, storylines, and endings with nonlinear progression. Branching narratives and a morality system stretch beyond the bounds of good and evil with lots of grey to play with. Vincent’s skills as a thief can help get what he needs or wants, but at a potentially steep price. Vincent’s choices lead him down different paths containing more than 20 mini-games, with not all of them discoverable on a single playthrough.

Out of the Blue

I've been getting to hang out with my two canine buddies this week, as I've been looking in on Adler and Sandra while their owner has headed back to the office. This is a very low-effort/high reward scenario. It's too hot to really walk during the day, so we just go out for a pee. Then we go back in and they get treats. But they act like kids encountering Santa when I enter the house, so for my minimal efforts I get lavished with love. Labs are sweet dogs in general, but these two are so full of love it's overwhelming. Checking in on them is definitely one of the easiest favors I've ever been asked to do.

Lovefest Round-up
Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.
