Nightingale Delayed

Early Access to Nightingale is now expected in the first half of 2023. This represents a delay from the 2022 release window originally announced for Inflexion's upcoming survival game. Wccftech notes that its interview about the game earlier this year revealed a desire to possibly switch development to Unreal Engine 5. Now a new tweet explains the delay is in part to do just that:
The move is based on two considerations: The first is an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5. After reviewing the potential UE5 has to offer, we decided on upgrading now rather than waiting until after release.

Secondly, Inflection Games is committed to delivering the best possible experience and fulfilling the promise of what Nightingale's universe of realms has to offer players. To achieve that the additional time will allow the team to make key improvements, bolster content and polish gameplay.

Riot Games Diversity and Inclusion Report

Riot Games has released its new Annual Diversity and Inclusion Progress Report for 2021, detailing its efforts at making its games and workplace more inclusive. Here's part of the introduction:
This report is a snapshot of 2021, which was a foundational building year that would set us up for what we believe will be a transformative next chapter at Riot. Even as there were many variables externally that led to great unpredictability, we made enhancements to processes, and continued to focus on the player experience. From giving players more ways to see themselves reflected in our games to investing more resources for the next generation of gaming professionals and creators, we moved ahead. Of course our approach to D&I as a company is not linear - there’s constant learning, evaluating, and tinkering to continuously improve and do better. Focusing on Rioters, our processes, our culture, and our products, we’ve decided there is no set bar because this work will always evolve.

Islets This Month

Solo developer Kyle Thompson and publisher Armor Games announce August 24th as the release date for Islets, the action/adventure for Windows via Steam, Xbox One, and Switch. A version for Xbox Series X|S will follow. Described as a "surprisingly wholesome metroidvania," the game is set among a world of floating islands, physics be damned. A new Release Date Trailer is here to show off what to expect. Here's the pitch:
Islets is a lush metroidvania starring Iko, a brave mouse with ambitions of setting out to explore a sky filled with scattered floating islands and communities isolated from one another after the land was fractured by a mysterious incident many years ago.

Using his trusty but rickety plane, Iko hopes to navigate the disparate landscapes and find a way to bring the world together again. However his journey will also bring him to uncover the secrets of the immemorial evil that tore his world apart in the first place.

Heart Of Muriet Announced

Microtale, another solo developer, announces Heart Of Muriet, a voxel-based real-time strategy game coming to Early Access on Steam. The listing says it will arrive in late 2022, but the announcement we received says its release will come early next year. The game is said to be inspired by the golden age of the RTS genre, and you can see it in action in this trailer. Here's word:
Teaming up with Elves, Dwarfs, and Mages, you’ll need to build and manage settlements while researching powerful magic to overcome the enemy in tense, company-based warfare.

Heart of Muriet’s gameplay favours grand strategy over individual unit micromanagement, much like the original Starcraft and Warcraft games. Combine your resources with troop management, research progression, and base building to overcome the Heart of Muriet’s single-player campaign and restore the Seneer to its former power.

Out of the Blue

As I mentioned yesterday in memorializing Jen Bailey Bergen (Mynx), today is the tenth anniversary of the passing of Paul Steed. This just compounds the sadness over losing both of them, as Jen and Paul were very tight. I am what I like to describe as a self-righting boat, but I am extremely sad right now.

Self-Righting Round-up
Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.
