Activision Blizzard announces the results of its annual shareholders meeting. This includes votes for Board seats and other such business. But there's also an interesting bit of news about the company's ongoing sexual harassment scandal. Though the company recently announced it was clearing itself of any wrongdoing, shareholders voted it should show its work. In a non-binding vote, a two-thirds majority said it wants to see a report on the company's efforts:
In addition, approximately 67% of the voting shares voted in favor of the non-binding stockholder proposal regarding the preparation of a report about the Company’s efforts in the workplace. Consistent with our ongoing commitments, we will carefully consider the proposal to enhance our future disclosures. Activision Blizzard remains deeply committed to a respectful, welcoming workplace for all colleagues. We believe that transparency with our stakeholders is critical to our commitment to the very best governance practices. The Board greatly values our stockholders’ perspectives.

Top Steam Releases for May

Also from Valve is this List on Steam outlining the most successful new releases on Steam during the month of May. This blog post discusses the news, noting a third of the titles on the list incorporate sandbox elements. It also notes that this month marks the fifth anniversary of the launch of Steam Direct, the replacement for the active curation of the now-defunct Steam Greenlight program. Here's word on that:

There are obviously more specifics to the design and its evolution, but the fun part comes when browsing the variety of success stories in each month's latest Top Releases: polished franchise releases like Sniper Elite 5, Early Access surprise hits like V Rising, hidden gems from small development teams like SUNNY SIDE UP, along with a host of other content from studios around the world.

The team that created Alien Isolation has reportedly been working on the project for four years now. The post offers quotes from studio director Gareth Edmondson and creative director Alistair Hope on the shooter, which has a sci-fi setting, but uses an entirely new IP:
According to Hope, this new game boasts a "drive for attention to detail and authenticity" and commits to "understanding the source material." Hope isn't offering any other clues as to what this source material could be as of now, though.

"It's our new IP, and it's a world that we're creating, and of course we're wringing our hands over it and we really want to get that right," chief product officer Rob Bartholomew adds. "We want to understand what authenticity in a blue ocean or an open sky looks like, when you've got a blank page in front of you," Bartholomew continues.

Out of the Blue

Happy summer to those of us here in the northern hemisphere, as today is the solstice. So today I am officially Summertime Blue. Likewise, happy winter to all of you below the equator. It's been seasonally warm around here lately, but we were quite lucky in avoiding the nasty heat wave that recently covered a lot of the country. Here's hoping we can avoid too many of those so we can enjoy the warm weather rather than dread it.

Obituary: Political commentator and columnist Mark Shields dies at 85.
Obituary: Caleb Swanigan, former Purdue men's basketball star and NBA first-round pick, dies at 25.
