Ubisoft announces the launch of Roller Champions, a new free-to-play online sports game featuring crossplay support between Windows, PlayStation, and Xbox. You can learn all about the game and get started playing through the Roller Champions Website. Here's a Launch Trailer with a look at the high-speed action, which is just a few motorcycles shy of being Rollerball. Here's the deal on the game and the commencement of its kickoff season:
In this new free-to-play, team PvP sports game, players compete against each other in teams of three, to be the first to reach five points by making arena laps and throwing the ball through the hoop. Teammates must work together, dodge, and tackle efficiently to keep ball possession and control the pace of the game. Claiming victory over opponents is the key to gaining fans and climbing up the leaderboards, all the way to the Elite Champions’ league! Along the way, cosmetic items– outfits, goal effects, air poses and much more – can be unlocked for players to fully customize their legendary athlete.

Roller Champions can be played with friends, or alone against similarly skilled opponents with the game’s cross-play matchmaking system. Profiles and progression are kept across all available platforms with the cross-progression system. Between matches, the skatepark allows players to meet up, learn new tricks and participate in mini-games together. And thanks to the Friend Referral program, inviting friends to Roller Champions unlocks rewards for both the Referee and the Referrer.

Marvel MMOG Cancelled

EG7 announces is has cancelled the MMOG based on Marvel Comics that was in the works at DC Universe Online developer Daybreak Games (thanks Eurogamer). This follows the report from about six months ago saying a AAA MMOG using the Marvel IP was in the "near to long-term pipeline." Now word is this pipeline has run dry:
EG7 today announced it will be discontinuing the development of the Marvel project at Daybreak Games. Based on the re-evaluation of the development risk profile, size of investment, and the long-term product portfolio strategy for the group, the board has decided to change the development priorities and reallocate resources within the group to focus on alternative long-term projects. The company had planned to invest more than SEK 500 million in the Marvel project over the next three years. The company will now diversify this investment across multiple, smaller size projects within the group, including the previously announced major upgrades to The Lord of the Rings Online and DC Universe Online, and new game opportunities with our first party, original IPs. Along with this reallocation, the company expects a write down of approximately SEK 230 million in project related assets in Q2 2022. As one of the long-term investments, the change to the Marvel project plan will not impact near to medium term revenues and profits other than the balance sheet and P&L impact related to the write-down.
