Dying Light 2 Getting At Least 5 Years of Support

This tweet promises at least five years of post-launch support for Dying Light 2: Stay Human. It was recently noted that the zombie survival sequel would include (after all, it takes time to play through 500 hours of content). But it sounds like Techland is just getting started:
Want to know what will happen AFTER the premiere? We guarantee to expand the world of Dying Light 2 Stay Human for at least 5 years post launch with new stories, locations, in-game events and all the fun stuff you love!

FINAL FANTASY XIV Returning to Normal

A post to The Lodestone discusses a return to normalcy for FINAL FANTASY XIV after last month's launch of the Endwalker expansion caused enough congestion that new sales of the game were suspended, as were server transfers and other services. Those who are fascinated by details of data center expansions will be thrilled by the detailed reports from around the globe. For those hoping to play, sales of the game will resume on January 25th. Here's a bit of the conclusion, which blames the semiconductor crunch for delays in expanding the game's back end:
Once again, I wish to apologize for the delays to server expansion caused by the global semiconductor shortage. The necessity for communities to separate due to the regrouping of Worlds is another inconvenience that may prove unavoidable for some players, and we ask for your understanding as we work to alleviate this issue.

Despite these hardships, however, we believe this server expansion is a significant step forward in providing players the best gaming experience possible in FFXIV. Work on bolstering the servers will continue well into 2023, expending a vast amount of financial resources and manpower, but we will do our utmost to ensure this endeavor has no negative impact on your ability to play, so we would appreciate your support while you continue on your adventures.

Overprime Closed Beta Next Week

Netmarble announces plans for closed beta testing of Overprime, an upcoming MOBA played from a third-person shooter perspective. The test is planned for next weekend, and you can request access on Steam. Word is you can keep up with the latest plans by wishlisting the game or by joining the Overprime Discord Channel. The CBT Announcement Trailer has no gameplay, as it features a virtual influencer and an apparent effort at courting the TikTok audience. Here's word on the game:
Overprime, developed by Netmarble F&C, combines a 3D 3rd-person shooter with the MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) genre, celebrating both dynamic attack skills of the unique heroes and thrilled ambience across sci-fi inspired battlefields. Utilizing the assets of ‘Paragon’ developed by Epic Games in 2016, Overprime succeeds the previous title, providing a brand new 3D TPS MOBA experience for users, while benchmarking the smooth, high-quality graphics of the previous title.

GOG.com Catalog Improvements

GOG.com announces an update to its online store to improved game discoverability. There are more changes to come, but for now, here's more on new ways to sort through such a large catalog of titles:
We understand that among the more than 5500 titles in the catalog, searching for the game that fits your current needs or discovering the gems that will defy your expectations can be a time-consuming hassle. So thanks to the new catalog you can carry out more customized searches, adding ways to sort and filter games via price range, genres, release date range, and a newly introduced tags system.

The release of the new catalog on GOG doesn't mean we're stopping here. We will be improving it further – yes, sorting by "all-time bestsellers" is coming! And hey, do you have a very specific need, some particular accessibility request, or do you just want to help us help you? Let us know how you like the new catalog in the comments, and share your ideas for what we could bring along.

Humble Trove Retiring macOS and Linux Support

There's an uproar on Reddit about the Humble Store, where as part of changes to Humble Choice that were recently announced, Humble Trove will no longer offer macOS and Linux editions of customer's games. The Trove is switching to a Windows app, so Humble Choice members have until the end of this month to download local non-Windows copies of their games before they are removed forever. Here's word:
We want to give you a heads up that starting February 1, Mac and Linux versions of the DRM free games currently in the Humble Trove will no longer be available.

As a Humble Choice member, you can still download them and keep to keep for your personal collection until January 31. Windows PC versions of many of these games will still be available to download in the upcoming humble app, alongside the brand new Humble Games Collection.

Expeditions: Rome Shows Companions and Twitch Extension

With the expedition to Expeditions: Rome getting underway next week, THQ Nordic fills us in on more of what to expect from the upcoming historical strategy/RPG. First up is the introduction of Speculatores, five companions you'll be able to recruit into your party along the way. Each Speculatore gets an introductory video, so here are looks at Caeso, Julia, Bestia, and Syneros, but the video for Deianeira is mistakenly marked "private" as of this writing. Also, here's a Twitch Extension Beta Reaction Trailer with, we kid you not, streamers reactions to the Twitch extension that will aid them streaming the game to influence everybody. Here's word:
Expeditions: Rome will release in less than a week - time to show off the companions of your Legatus! During your adventures in Greece, Africa, Gaul, and Rome you will meet five different party members that you will be able to add to your band of heroes, called the "Speculatores". There is the wise servant Syneros, who is a healer on the battlefield as well as the voice of reason in dialogues. Former Gladiator "Bestia" Tabat is a lightly armored, very agile, and ferocious melee fighter who uses two weapons to overcome his enemies. Julia Calida is the person to ask when it comes to stealth maneuvers or covert operations, while Centurio Caeso is the prototype of a heavy roman infantry soldier.

Each of the Speculatores will be introduced with a short trailer, and on top of that, we also have the Extension Trailer ready to be shown off. It presents the special Twitch-Extension made for Expeditions: Rome and how a gang of well-known content creators made use of it. When Expeditions: Rome launches on January 20th, the extension, as well as the Twitch-drop campaign, will be available again.

Out of the Blue

If the bad news about the lockdown is how reliant we've become on the TV for entertainment, then the good news has to be how many quality programs there are in this new golden age of television. Sometimes it only takes moments of searching around to discover one of those shows you've somehow never seen despite rave reviews. We just finished a binge of The Good Place. This was pretty easy as these things go, as it had four reasonably short seasons. But what a smart, funny, and creative show it was. A definite winner. And Janet is a new entry on my list of favorite-ever TV characters. That girl (not a girl) just slayed.
