Overwatch's McCree Becoming Cole Cassidy

In a Tweet Blizzard announces Cole Cassidy is the new name for the Overwatch character formerly known as Jesse McCree. In August it was announced the character would be renamed, since the McCree name was based on a departed designer hit with allegations of inappropriate behavior. Interestingly the name change is now part of the lore for the multiplayer shooter. Here's the text of the message that's posted as a video for some reason:
The first thing a renegade loses is their name, and this one gave up his long ago.

Running from his past meant running from himself, and each passing year only widened the divide between who he had been and what he had become. But in every cowboy's life, there comes a time when he has to stop and make a stand.

To make this new Overwatch better to make things right he had to be honest with his team and himself. The cowboy he was rode into the sunset, and Cole Cassidy faced the world at dawn.

Ghost of War Ultra Skin Bundle

Activision announces a new Ghost of War Ultra Skin Bundle is now available for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. Word is: "Available in the new Ghost of War Ultra Skin bundle in the Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Store, this Ultra-rarity skin is perfect for fighting fellow Operators and specters within the new Ghosts of Verdansk mode or in other Halloween-themed playlists." Here's the bundle's content:

  • Ghost of War Ultra-rarity Skin. An old war legend tells the tale of a skeletal creature born out of the blood and ashes of the deadliest battles. Powered by supernatural energy, the hollow warrior knows no allies and can fight for an eternity. Bound to Naga’s bones, but not his flesh, the “Ghost of War” is ready to fight for you in Warzone and Black Ops Cold War.
  • Three Weapon Blueprints. A trio of Legendary Weapon Blueprints — one Shotgun, one SMG, and one Assault Rifle — can fit your Loadouts across both games. All of these weapons include five attachments, include Gold-and-Green Tracer Fire, and are configured for competitive versatility.
  • New Finishing Move. Should you sneak behind an unaware enemy, the “Shot Down” Finishing Move allows you to use supernatural and small-arms firepower to humiliate them. Shoot them into the air with a charged rod, and then... you can imagine what comes next.
  • Vehicle Skin and Horn, Mini-map Watch, and Epic Emblem. Rally the spirits for your next Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer or Zombies experience by driving the FAV with a new Vehicle Skin. Although this item is available only in Black Ops Cold War, the other items in this Bundle — a spooky horn for all vehicles, a watch with a functional mini-map, and a ghostly Emblem — can be used across both games.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes Released

BANDAI NAMCO now offers the release of The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes, so the latest installment in the horror series has arrived just in time for Halloween. This follows Man of Medan and Little Hope as a third game in the anthology, but each is a standalone offering. Here's a review roundup, the live-action/gameplay Launch Trailer, and more on the game and the series:
The story of The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes takes place in Iraq, circa 2003. In the shadows of the Zagros mountains, Special Forces are hunting for weapons of mass destruction when they are attacked. The resulting firefight causes an earth tremor where both sides fall into the ruins of a buried Sumerian temple. With all communication severed, the game’s protagonists are trapped in a terrifying underworld they must navigate to escape, unaware that something ancient and evil has awakened in the shadows and has found a new prey to hunt. The story follows the five members of the cast as they are compelled to team up with their enemies from the world above to survive the monsters from the world below.

The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of stand-alone, branching cinematic horror games designed to present a new terrifying experience on a regular basis. Each game will feature a brand-new story, setting, and new cast of characters. Experience moments of tension and terror alone in single player mode, with your friends through two player online shared story, or with up to five players in the couch-friendly movie night mode. The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes is the third game in the The Dark Pictures Anthology series which features stand-alone, cinematic branching horror games where the decisions players make determine the story they experience.

Out of the Blue

I got to see Dune last night, and my one word review is that it is brilliant. I get the viewpoint of those saying this film demands the theater experience, but as has been discussed here, that's not a comfortable option yet for many of us. Also, pandemic notwithstanding, I am already one of those for whom the absence of other patrons is a huge positive, as it eliminates all the distractions caused by talking, phone use, wrapper crinkling, bathroom trips, etc. On the other hand, making the second part of the movie is dependant on the success of the first, and it will be a tremendous disappointment if this doesn't come together. HBO has reassured Denis Villeneuve that a successful run on HBO Max is all it will take to greenlight the follow-up. I hope it will be easy to tell how this is all working out. I'm probably on board if I need to go out and buy a ticket that I'm not going to use. Also, we all said this was impossible, but he made it seem easy. Denis Villeneuve should probably just make all science fiction movies going forward. I'd love to see his take on Star Trek and Star Wars. Or Battlefield Earth for that matter!

Brilliant Round-up
Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.
