Battlefield 2042 Beta Debreifing

EA offers a big old blog post outlining its takeaways from beta testing of Battlefield 2042. This starts off defending against criticism of the specialist system in the upcoming military shooter. But while it sounds like specialists are not being changed, many things are outline that will be different following testing and player feedback. Here's a rundown:
Over the past few weeks since the Beta, we’ve shared some limited insight into some of the changes that are coming in time for launch, relative to the experience you had playing Conquest, on Orbital:

  • Increased the number of Tanks that you’ll experience on Orbital. It’s up from 4, to 8 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
  • Made changes to movement, adding strafe input to sliding, adding the ability to vault on moving objects, and toning down jump spamming.
  • A nearby Grenade Indicator has been added.
  • Entry and Exit animations are now shorter, with some being removed entirely.
  • Elevators have been fixed so that you see less funky behaviours with doors.

WRC 10 Adds Free Content

A new update is now available for WRC 10 adding new free historical content to the rally racing game. This includes a new asphalt track for when you tire of breathing dust, and new historical events. Everything is shown off in this video. Here's more:
This free update adds the highly anticipated Renties Ypres Rally Belgium, won this year by local driver Thierry Neuville. Added to the calendar in early 2021, players will have the opportunity to experience these new asphalt country roads. Narrow and winding, they are lined with ditches and posts and punctuated by numerous junctions. The road sides often bring dust and mud to the tarmac and make conditions slippery with drivers not hesitating to cut corners. In WRC 10, the Ypres rally consists of 7 stages plus a shakedown.

Three new historic events make their appearance, featuring famous driver and co-driver duos in their original cars: the 1980 Rally Portugal with Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer in their Fiat 131 Abarth, the 1981 Rally Finland with Ari Vatanen and David Richards in their Ford Escort MkII 1800 and finally, the 2017 Rally Portugal with Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia in their Ford Fiesta WRC.

Halo Infinite PC Discussion

A post on Halo Waypoint discusses the PC edition of Halo Infinite, as 343 Industries says it has "entered a new era of play where PC is at the center of everything we do, alongside console." Specific features mentioned are ultrawide/super ultrawide support (including cinematics), FOV adjustment and framerate customization, weapon offset control, triple key-binds, and PC LAN support. Here's an accompanying PC Overview Trailer. The PC edition is big on hardware sponsorships, as a good deal of the article discusses an AMD partnership that includes a Limited Edition Halo Infinite AMD Radeon 6900 XT graphics card and a deal with Razer Chroma to add in-game RGB triggers. The deal with AMD promises more PC enhancements, though it sounds like this may have come later in development, as most of its outcome is expected after the game launches:
In addition, through this partnership we’ve worked closely with AMD engineers to optimize performance for AMD Ryzen processors, including their most advanced gaming processors based on the groundbreaking “Zen 3” architecture, the AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series. We also worked with AMD to ensure Halo Infinite supports AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro. In addition to providing tear free, stutter free gaming, displays certified for the AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro tier include highly accurate luminance and wide color gamut testing to enable an exceptional HDR visual gaming experience.

However, in the words of humanity’s most iconic hero; we’re just getting started. AMD understood and believed in our vision to build a Halo experience over time. Launch is just the beginning for Halo Infinite on PC. As such, AMD was willing to pursue a close, long-term partnership with Halo across both engineering and marketing efforts. Looking ahead, we've identified opportunities for additional configuration options, performance tweaks, and memory improvements across both PC as well as console and we’re working together on more optimization solutions that should benefit all platforms. Most excitingly though, we're looking forward to working closely with AMD bring Ray Tracing to Halo Infinite. Ray Tracing is one our top development priorities post-launch and look forward to sharing more soon.

Conan Exiles People of the Dragon Pack Released

The People of the Dragon Pack is now available for Windows on Steam and for consoles, adding new content to Conan Exiles, Funcom's multiplayer survival game. Given the nature of gameplay, players should be pleased to know that this only involves cosmetic options, and no gameplay advantages. Word is: "All the new content in People of the Dragon Pack is exclusive to this DLC and adds a host of new visual options but does not give any in-game advantage in power. All the new items have comparable stats to existing items." Here's the Official Launch Trailer and here are some details:
While Nemedia is perhaps most famed for fostering the leading philosophers and historians in Hyboria, the old kingdom can also boast a powerful army and have held the Aquilonians at bay for millennia. The People of the Dragon Pack allows you to create your own version of a Nemedian stronghold, taking this history into account.

Among the new placeables you will find journals, scrolls and a bookshelf, representing the learned women and men of Nemedia, whereas the new weapons and armor pieces allow you to charge into battle donning the fierce dragon emblem. And as a counterweight to the Roman inspired Aquilonian architecture, Nemedian building pieces have a distinct Germanic touch. Most of the new items are displayed in the brand-new People of the Dragon Pack trailer.

Toy Soldiers: HD Released

Toy Soldiers: HD is now available for Windows, Xbox, and PlayStation, and coming soon to Switch. This is a version of the action/tower defense game updated with spiffy new graphics, new content, and other improvements. The PC edition is available on Steam, where the original is still available, but there's no apparent upgrade path between them. Gameplay involves fighting World War I with those titular soldiers, and a new Launch Trailer shows off the game's updated look. Here's more:
Toy Soldiers HD is a diorama of military action set in a child’s bedroom, a library, lounge, and more. At your command are toy army soldiers, tanks, biplanes, bombers, machine guns, mortars, fixed upgradeable emplacements to defend your base from waves of increasingly challenging attacks. These ingredients make Toy Soldiers HD a lot of fun to play.

Like many strategy games, you carefully build your defenses and plot your offensive moves, but one of the things that makes Toy Soldiers HD unique is the ability to instantly pop in and out of the battlefield from both third-person top-down strategic perspective and first-person POV shooter perspective in both single and multiplayer. Watch the battle play out as you build, upgrade, and repair your defenses or jump feet first into it and wage war against your opponent. Don’t worry, when you go full first-person POV, AI takes over your units.

Out of the Blue

Like many geeks, I treasured the Dune series growing, up, the first book in particular. And like many fans of the books, I've never been terribly convinced the series could be properly adapted to the screen. This thinking was only reinforced by the 1984 David Lynch movie, so I was highly skeptical about the new Denis Villeneuve version. But the early reactions and reviews being positively spectacular has naturally changed that outlook into optimism. I had been paying so little attention to this that I didn't realize until recently it was getting a simultaneous HBO Max launch, so I don't even have to consider the theater options. This is all capped off by the tidbit sent along by Ant noting that the streaming debut will actually come today instead of tomorrow! And guess who's got two thumbs and a new TV to watch it on? THIS GUY. I love it when a non-plan comes together.
