Epic Welcomes Blockchain Games

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney takes the opportunity presented by the indication  that Steam may ban games based on blockchain technology to announce that the Epic Games Store will not. In a couple of tweets he outlines this stance, saying games still must comply with the law:
Epic Games Store will welcome games that make use of blockchain tech provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms, and are age-rated by an appropriate group. Though Epic's not using crypto in our games, we welcome innovation in the areas of technology and finance.

As a technology, the blockchain is just a distributed transactional database with a decentralized business model that incentivize investment in hardware to expand the database's capacity. This has utility whether or not a particular use of it succeeds or fails.

Apex Legends Players Should Stop Voguing

Respawn tweets about a message it is sending in-game to Apex Legends players, warning them to avoid animated poses for the time being. These are apparently causing crashes in the battle royale shooter. Word is everyone should avoid being posers until the fix arrives next week:
We’ve just published this message in-game to help cut down on crashes called by animated poses. Tell your friends!

A full fix is scheduled for next week.

Crysis Remastered Trilogy Review Guidelines Leaked?

A post on is based on a video from Joker Productions that claims to show the review guidelines Crytek is providing with review copies of the Crysis Remastered Trilogy. This is unconfirmed, but presuming it's legitimate, it offers a rare glimpse behind the curtain of how companies can try and control the narrative of game reviews. It also gives a sense of what Crytek feels are the strengths and weaknesses of the rerelease:

  • Do highlight that Crysis Remastered Trilogy is a great value all in one bundle for $49.99 / £49.99 / €49.99
  • That players can buy the games separately if they already own the first game (Crysis Remastered)
  • Highlight that the game play up to 4K 60fps on next gen consoles
  • These are all single player games (no multiplayer)
  • Talk about that this game is optimised for current and next gen consoles and plays smoothly and looks better than ever
  • Good graphics and performance

  • Oversell the game on graphics
  • Don't talk about "hardware breaking graphics/software"
  • Say that Ray Tracing is available on consoles
  • Multiplayer
  • Mention Warhead as this isn't in the Trilogy
  • Mention that it's a "Remake" as it's a Remastered version of the games
  • AI upgrades
  • Quality of life improvements

Out of the Blue

Well, it's only been autumn for a few weeks around here, but the change in seasons is already hitting pretty hard. It's not that chilly yet, but leaves are falling like crazy, and there's a generous coating of them all over the pond. But that doesn't seem to be bothering anyone, because the swans seem to have departed. Our first two winters here they stuck around the whole time, but the last I saw of them was weeks ago, so they are playing snowbirds. Looks like most of the ducks have gone, too, so we'll miss there antics too. And after a brief reappearance, the spider disappeared too. So it's a little leafy and deserted out there, but that will make it seem that much more joyful when everyone returns in the spring, just (checks calendar) gulp, six months from now. Any of you in Australia have room for houseguests?

Fallen Round-up
Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.
