Electronic Arts announces the renewal of its partnership with FIFPRO, the global union of professional association football/soccer players. A report emerged yesterday speculating that EA may be moving away from the FIFA brand, so this may play into that somehow. Or not. Here's word:

The collective strength of the EA SPORTS football franchise is fueled by 300+ licensed partners, including FIFPRO, who help generate the game’s unparalleled authenticity, both now and long into the future. League of Legends All Chat Disabled

Riot Games announces that /all chat is being disabled in matchmade League of Legends queues as of patch 11.21 (thanks Game Informer). The post recognizes some positive aspects of being able to chat your opponents in the MOBA, but the conclusion is the reduction of toxicity makes this a valid tradeoff:
While /all chat can be the source of fun social interaction between teams, as well as some good-hearted banter, right now negative interactions outweigh the positives. We'll evaluate the impact of this change through verbal abuse reports and penalty rates, as well as surveys and direct feedback from you all.

/All chat is the only thing being disabled. Enemies will still be able to hear and see your emotes and champ mastery (unless muted), as well as CTRL+1/2/3/4 spam. End of Game chat will still be cross-team. Allies will still be able to coordinate with each other in team chat.

Hearthstone Mercenaries Live

Blizzard announces that Hearthstone Mercenaries is now live, offering a new way to play the deckbuilding game in what's described as "one of Hearthstone’s biggest updates ever." Here's a trailer welcoming players aboard. Here's the deal:
In Mercenaries, you form a Party of up to 6 Mercenaries instead of a deck of cards. You can then take that Party in to the Travel Point in order to hunt a Bounty, or to the Fighting Pit for single-fight combat. When fighting, up to 3 of Mercenaries are active while the rest wait on the Bench, ready to jump in when one of your active Mercs falls. In combat, lock-in your team’s moves and then watch as both teams automatically battle it out! With different Roles, Abilities, and Equipment for over 50 launch Mercenaries (and more to come), there are countless ways to personalize and empower your Party!

Cryptozoic Entertainment, YUKE’S, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, DC Comics, and a cast of thousands announce DC Dual Force, a collectible card game coming in 2022 based on the DC Comics universe. The DC Dual Force Website is online, as is the Announcement Trailer, but neither of them mention target platforms, so we'll just have to stay tuned for that. Here's more:

Skyrim: Anniversary Edition Will Break Mods

A post on Reddit offers an "important PSA" about the upcoming Skyrim: Anniversary Edition (thanks DSOGaming). This is a warning that significant changes under the hood will break compatibility with many of the large number of modifications for the role-playing game. Word is: "the native code mod scene is going to be broken for an unknown length of time after AE's release." Here's more:
The reason for this is that as part of the AE update, Bethesda has decided to update the compiler used to build the 64-bit version of Skyrim from Visual Studio 2015 to Visual Studio 2019. This changes the way that the code is generated in a way that forces mod developers to start from scratch finding functions and writing hooks. Class layouts are unlikely to change, luckily. I didn't ask specifically, but the most probable reason for this is that the Xbox Live libraries used for achievements on the Windows Store are only available for 2017 and later. Some games have worked around this limitation by building the code that interacts with Xbox Live in to a secondary DLL that is dynamically loaded by the game, but they didn't choose this option.

Plugins using the Address Library will need to be divided in to "pre-AE" and "post-AE" eras. Code signatures and hooks will need to be rewritten. We will all need to find functions again. The compiler's inlining behavior has changed enough that literally a hundred thousand functions have disappeared and been either inlined or deadstripped, to put it in perspective.

Fornite Impostors Offers a Nod to Among Us

In a new Fortnite Update Epic Games acknowledges that the Impostors game mode in Fortnite was inspired by Among Us. This influence was unmentioned when the mode first launched, leading the developers at Innersloth to gripe a bit. It's not clear if this belated credit is the only concession Epic made in this matter:
v18.20 brings improvements to Impostors, the game mode inspired by Among Us from Innersloth!

Out of the Blue

This is the fifth anniversary of our dear friends adopting Jedi the Jindo, my best canine buddy. Jedi was rescued from Korea, where he spent his early days as a stray, followed by a stay on death row where he was destined for a dinner menu. Based on that, it was no surprise that in his youth he had a tendency to escape and run all over town trying to raise hell. What is a surprise is that he's turned out to be such a solid citizen, and a wonderful family pet. I like to think that the Gunnar-man was a positive influence during the years they walked together, as he was about the best-behaved dog I've ever met. Anyway, I need to find a way to visit and take the little fluff ball for a walk to celebrate his anniversary.
