BF2042 Development Woes?

A story on Gaming Intel by Tom Henderson has the Battlefield leaker's take on what's going on with Battlefield 2042 following the just-concluded beta test for the military shooter. The article is titled "Battlefield 2042's Troubled Development and Identity Crisis" which gives an idea of its thrust. Tom discusses performance of the beta and whether it's plausible that the build is actually several months old. He also hears from confidential sources within DICE that the game's resemblance to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is intentional, and that this direction and development issues are due to ineffective management:
Management is allegedly not committed enough to the project, with creative being simply told to do X, Y, and Z. One of these management figures was simply described as a “yes man”, and apparently things have “been s*&t since”.

Problems brought up to management also fall on deaf ears throughout the development process. Ultimately creating issues that DICE could have solved earlier in the development process.

As for the lack of creativity, management loved some of Modern Warfare 2019’s aspects that much, that the studio was supposedly encouraged to create something similar.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Story Details

There's a blog post on the Call of Duty Website for the Call of Duty: Vanguard Story Trailer that was mentioned this morning. This has a Behind The Scenes Video and more details on what players will experience during the military shooter's campaign. Here's a summary:
In Vanguard, your squadmates are five soldiers whose individual actions helped turn the tide of World War II across four major fronts: Private Lucas Riggs in the North Africa Campaign, Lieutenant Wade Jackson from the Pacific, Lieutenant Polina Petrova who defended her home country on the Eastern Front, Sergeant Richard Webb and your leader: Sergeant Arthur Kingsley of the British Army’s 9th Parachute Battalion. Through Vanguard’s Campaign, you will live out the moments that made them heroes and learn how they came together to spearhead Task Force One. You will also get to know the concept of international “Special Forces,” and ultimately, what brings them face-to-face with the man who is spearheading Project Phoenix: the ruthless Nazi Officer Hermann Wenzel Freisinger.

Activision Blizzard Lawsuit Complication

It was reported on Friday that the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing was objecting to a proposed settlement for a lawsuit filed against Activision Blizzard by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. This complicates an already complicated situation were the publisher is fighting two different lawsuits over harassment in the workplace. But now PC Gamer has word that this case is more tangled than was previously suspected, as it involves potential conflicts of interest. Here's why:
The long and short is that the DFEH case has been led by two lawyers that previously worked for the EEOC, and while working for the EEOC they investigated Activision Blizzard in relation to the claims that have led to the settlement. The settlement that they are now objecting to.

If true this would be a conflict of interest, a breach of professional ethics, and a violation of Californian law on the conduct of attorneys. Per the memorandum:

"Specifically, two DFEH attorneys—who play leadership roles within the organization—previously served as EEOC who helped to direct the EEOC's investigation into Commissioner's Charge No. 480-2018-05212 against Activision Blizzard, Inc. These same attorneys then proceeded to represent DFEH in connection with these intervention proceedings, which seek to oppose the consent decree that arose out of the very investigation they helped to direct while at the EEOC."

Out of the Blue

The pushback against the occasion has intensified in recent years, but today is still officially Columbus Day here in the US, one of just a dozen observed federal holidays. Interestingly, this official designation came in 1968, so the controversy over the occasion was probably there from the very start. Here's an interesting bit of Columbus Day trivia. It's one of only two federal holidays here in the US where stock trading is permitted. The other is Veterans/Armistice Day.

CoD Title Confirmation Unconfirmed

Battlefield sleuth Tom Henderson tweets a follow-up to the tweet he made yesterday to "confirm" that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is the official title of the next CoD game. When he said "confirm" what he meant was "not confirm":
"Confirm" was a wrong choice of wording here - I can confirm that I've seen artwork that says "Modern Warfare II" - But this does not necessarily confirm the title is 100% Modern Warfare II as names can change during development.

I might sketch the image in the future though.

Out of the Blue

Thank you for the comments on yesterday's 25th anniversary of Blue's News. Your kind words made it all the more of a special occasion. And following yesterday's birthday, here's another anniversary, as it was on this day in 1994 that DOOM II was released, making the first-person shooter 27 years old today. And on this day in 2007, Valve released the Orange Box, a retail collection of Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Portal, and, the first two Half-Life 2 episodes. So that makes today the 14th anniversary of that collection, and the 14th anniversary of no Half-Life 2: Episode Three.
