Call of Duty: Vanguard Open Beta Plans

This trailer offers the promised look at multiplayer for Call of Duty: Vanguard, the next installment in the military shooter series. This was part of a worldwide multiplayer reveal, and you can watch that in its entirety here. There's also news for Warzone players, as this article outlines plans to add a new Pacific map to the battle royale. There's also this on testing: "The livestream also gave details for the Multiplayer Open Beta, set to kick off early for those who pre-ordered Vanguard on September 10-13 for PlayStation owners and September 16-17 for Xbox Series X/S, PC and PlayStation owners." Requiring a purchase does not sound like an open beta, but this everything you need to know article has a wrinkle: "Depending on the platform, the start of Vanguard’s second Beta weekend — from Thursday, September 16 at 10 AM PT to Saturday, September 18 at 10 AM PT — is either an Open or Early Access Beta. More information to come next week." But there's more already on the Xbox Website, here it says: "Then, from Saturday, September 18 to Monday, September 20, Vanguard will enter its open beta period, allowing all players to participate. Invite your friends and squad up." Here's more on multiplayer support:
The most ways to play. Tactical combat. The sights, sounds, and feel of war on next-generation technology. A focus on a global cast of Operators. All deeply integrated for a new era for Call of Duty®: Warzone™ that includes a brand-new map and a PC anti-cheat system, both launching later this year.

Rainbow Six Siege Crystal Guard Begins; Play Free This Week

Ubisoft announces that Crystal Guard is now underway in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, kicking off Season 3 of Year 6 in the tactical shooter. The new season introduces Croatian operator Osa, the rework of the Bank, Coastline, and Clubhouse maps, and more. For those interested in a firsthand introduction to Osa, Rainbow Six Siege will be free for all to play between September 9-12. Details on the free weekend can be found on this page. Here's more on the new season:
In Crystal Guard, players will discover a brand-new attacker: Osa, equipped with the Talon-8 shield, a deployable transparent shield that she can carry. Osa is armed with a 556xi or a PDW9 as a primary weapon and a PMM as a secondary weapon. In addition to the new operator, players will have access to the reworked maps Coastline, Bank and Clubhouse. These maps had some modifications as closed windows, new alleys, more destructible parts, bomb site placement and more. Also, improvements have been made to the following operators: Finka, Sledge, Glaz, Iana, Twitch, IQ, Mute and Fuze among other updates.

Year 6 Season 3 comes with a brand-new Battle Pass, including 100 tiers and 133 rewards, available until November 23. For the first time, the Battle Pass introduces a new reward: Battle Point Boosters, which are consumables that boost Battle Point gain by 20% when used at any time. The Battle Pass includes a free and a Premium track available for 1200 R6 Credits. Owners of the Premium Battle Pass can play with Osa immediately and progress faster, while other players can unlock her with Renown or R6 Credits starting September 21. New seasonal content including the map reworks and operator updates are available right now for free and for all players.

Diablo II: Resurrected Widescreen Support Being Limited

A post from Blizzard discusses plans for Diablo II: Resurrected, talking about console lobbies, TCP/IP, and ultrawide monitor support. The last two are of concern to PC users, as there is more on why the revived action/RPG will not support TCP/IP networking due to security issues. There's also the confession that ultrawide monitor support is incomplete because of the work it would require. Let's just pretend 32:9 monitors don't exist as we read about how 21:9 monitors will be limited to 19:9:
Ultrawide monitor support being modified was a subject we saw heavily discussed across our channels following the Beta. In the Technical Alpha, players with Ultrawide hardware saw their full 21:9 screens utilized during that test. However, during that test we identified limitations affecting those players and others. For example, the AI failed to sense the player and trigger attacks. Furthermore, players with 21:9 monitors were able to pull many more monsters into battle at a range limit beyond the original game’s intention. In a scenario where players (for example: playing a ranged class) were attacking monsters, players with 21:9 monitors could hit enemies with that extra screen space, but the monsters would not pull or react, but could still be defeated. Ultimately, the AI doesn’t register getting hit from that additional distance a 21:9 monitor provides. That’s not intended, especially if you’re sharing a game with a 16:9 user. To protect the integrity of everyone’s experience and promote an equal playing field for all, those with Ultrawide monitors will be able to have their game screen purview extended to 19:9 (the maximum length of the in-game limitation zones) with a vignette on the sides of the game screen. We recognize that players have spent a lot of money to assemble their 21:9 hardware setups and seeing black bars may be frustrating for their experience. So, we’ll continue to watch these discussions and explore possible solutions that don’t change how the game is played.

Lowercase partners astragon Entertainment and stillalive studios now offer the official release of Bus Simulator 21, offering the chance to take the wheel of a bus and try to get everyone to their destinations safe and on time. The game contains no Batman Scenarios, but it does feature brand-name buses, two maps featuring a more open-world approach, and a free skin pack DLC for everyone who purchases this within the first week. The Windows edition is available on Steam and there are also Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions on each respective console. Here's the Release Trailer and here's more on the game:
Compared to its predecessor, Bus Simulator 21 offers two huge, lively maps: The North American-inspired city “Angel Shores”, and the European based city “Seaside Valley” known from its predecessor Bus Simulator 18 including the areas of the official map expansion. Both maps are offering an even freer open-world approach that invites players to explore their surroundings: For example, to pay a visit to the bus dealer to look at new models or to go on a merry search for carefully hidden easter eggs - be it alone or in cooperative multiplayer mode with up to three other players.

Another innovation is the floating day and night cycle, including dynamic weather. In addition, players will - for the first time - be able to access convenience comfort functions such as fast travel to all important points on the map, an option to fast forward the time to any point, and take-over the buses of their teammates or AI colleagues at any time they want. True to the motto “Less time in menus and more time on the road”, players are free to choose whether they want to use these options via the map menu or within the game world directly.

Alan Wake Remastered Officially Announced

An open letter on the Alan Wake Website from Sam Lake officially announces plans for Alan Wake Remastered, though a couple of recent indications had us pretty certain this project is in the works. The announcement seems to confirm the release date from one of those indications, saying the remake of Remedy's adventure game is coming this (northern) fall. Here's a bit:
The original game was only available for Xbox 360 and a few years later, PC. We are thrilled about the opportunity to bring the remastered version out for a new generation of platforms. I am excited to hear what you think about Alan Wake.

Alan Wake Remastered is the original experience you fell in love with all those years ago. We did not want to change that. But the visuals all around, including the character model of Alan Wake himself and the cinematics, have been updated and improved with some choice next-generation upgrades.

Alan Wake Remastered will launch this fall. Stay tuned for more information soon.

Tripwire CEO Steps Down Amid Controversy

The controversy over a tweet by John Gibson supporting the anti-abortion law that recently took effect in Texas has quickly boiled over. Yesterday it was reported that developers Shipwright Studios cut ties with the publisher and developer Torn Banner Studios distanced itself from Gibson's remarks. Now Tripwire itself is also created its own distance, announcing that Gibson has "stepped down" (presumably after some coaxing), and has been replaced by interim CEO Alan Wilson. Tripwire says Gibson's remarks do not reflect the opinions of the company:
The comments given by John Gibson are of his own opinion, and do not reflect those of Tripwire Interactive as a company. His comments disregarded the values of our whole team, our partners and much of our broader community. Our leadership team at Tripwire are deeply sorry and are unified in our commitment to take swift action and to foster a more positive environment.

Effective immediately, John Gibson has stepped down as CEO of Tripwire Interactive. Co-founding member and current Vice President, Alan Wilson, will take over as interim CEO. Alan has been with the company since its formation in 2005 and is an active lead in both the studio’s business and developmental affairs. Alan will work with the rest of the Tripwire leadership team to take steps with employees and partners to address their concerns including executing a company-wide town hall meeting and promoting open dialogue with Tripwire leadership and all employees. His understanding of both the company’s culture and the creative vision of our games will carry the team through this transition, with full support from the other Tripwire leaders.
