Icarus in August, No Longer F2P

Icarus will take flight on August 11th, offering a new co-op survival game for up to eight players from RocketWerkz, the developer founded by DayZ co-creator Dean Hall. The game was first announced exactly one year ago today as a free-to-play title. But apparently it was flying too close to the sun, and word is that's changed. The game and its DLC will all be sold as AAA premium releases, and it is available for pre-purchase on Steam, which says the game is due on August 12th. There is also a deluxe version which includes both upcoming DLC packs. The PC Gaming Show 2021 Trailer shows off gameplay. Here's a bit:
Endure a savage alien wilderness on Icarus, humanity’s greatest mistake. Survive its brutal environment as you explore, harvest, craft and hunt while seeking your fortune.

IXION Announced

Publisher Kasedo Games and developer Bulwark Studios announce IXION, a strategic survival/space opera. It is expected on PC in 2022, and it can be wishlisted on Steam. Here's the Announcement Trailer. Would you like to know more?
IXION combines city building, survival elements and exploration, into a thrilling space opera as you explore the stars. Propelled onwards into a perilous journey, you are the Administrator of the Tiqqun space station, charged with the task to find a new home for humanity after the Earth can no longer provide.

BABYLON'S FALL Beta Signups

SQUARE ENIX unveils a new E3 2021 Trailer for BABYLON'S FALL, the single-player and co-op action/adventure in development at PlatinumGames for PC and PlayStation. There's also a Developer Interview Video discussing the project. If 12 minutes is too much of an ask, a short version edits the interview down to two minutes. A series of closed beta sessions are planned, so sign up here if you are feeling testy. Here's more on the plan, which we've seen pointed out suggest this is a games as a service deal:
SQUARE ENIX® today, during the summer edition of SQUARE ENIX PRESENTS, unveiled an exclusive look at BABYLON'S FALL™, developed in partnership with renowned action specialists, PlatinumGames Inc. (NieR:Automata™). Featuring fluid co-op-combat, powerful weapons and a unique, striking art style, the epic world of BABYLON’S FALL is coming to the PlayStation®5 (PS5™) console, PlayStation®4 and STEAM. The game can be played in parties up to four* and will feature a range of post launch game modes at no additional cost. More details will be revealed throughout the year and player recruitment for closed beta testing is now open.

In BABYLON’S FALL players become a group of warriors known as the sentinels, bonded with special equipment called Gideon Coffins, and throw themselves into an odyssey to overcome the titanic Tower of Babylon, within which sleeps a great legacy. In addition to weapons wielded in both hands, characters can use the power of their Gideon Coffin to equip two more, allowing for combinations of up to four weapons at once. The capabilities of different equipment will also bring endless variation to the strategy that can be employed. The game’s visuals are achieved using a newly developed “brushwork style” to create a unique fantasy setting with a medieval oil painting aesthetic.

Lemnis Gate in August

Publisher Frontier Foundry and developer Ratloop Games announce an August 3rd release date for Lemnis Gate, the upcoming turn-based strategy shooter. This trailer offers a look at the time-manipulation that makes this in effect a 4D shooter. Word is an open beta on Steam will precede the release:
Lemnis Gate’s distinctive time-exploiting mechanics mean players can team up with past selves, alter the events of previous rounds, and even reverse death. Whether outwitting opponents online or facing off with friends locally with pass the controller, players will need strategic cunning and skilful execution to succeed as they progressively build their plays in thrilling 1v1 and 2v2 matches. Over five nail-biting rounds all taking place in a 25-second time loop, players select one of seven uniquely skilled operatives, and seek to deploy ingenious tactics that will reverberate throughout the match. There is no room for favourites in Lemnis Gate and mastering the abilities of each operative will offer the best chance of victory.

Ahead of launch, PC players everywhere will have the opportunity to play the game during the upcoming open beta on Steam. The beta will be the first time the wider public goes hands-on with the game, offering an early glance at the sorts of innovative strategies and outlandish thinking that will come to define Lemnis Gate.

Silt Announced

Publisher Sold Out and developer Spiral Circus announce Silt, an underwater adventure coming to Steam in early 2022. This puts the player in the wetsuit of a solitary diver, exploring a surreal monochromatic ocean. This distinctive environment is amply shown in the Announcement Trailer. Here's more on the game:

FAR: Changing Tides Announced

Frontier Foundry announce it is publishing FAR: Changing Tides, the next title in developer Okomotive's adventure series. This is coming later this year to Windows, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch. The PC version will be on both the Epic Games Store and Steam, where it already has a listing. The Announcement Trailer takes a look, and the announcement spills all sorts of beans:
Swapping sand dunes for sea waves, FAR: Changing Tides expands on the inhospitable world created by developers, Okomotive, in their multi award-winning debut title, FAR: Lone Sails. Players control Toe, a hero trapped in a drowned landscape with little chance of survival. A Tale of Paper PC Demo

Publisher Digerati and developer Open House Games announce A Tale of Paper is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch in the second half of this year. This will open up the puzzle/platformer to a wider audience, as it is currently exclusive on PlayStation 4. In this you play as a paper protagonist who can shape-shift through the art of origami. No word if you get the chance to teach life lessons to any potential replicants. Maybe this can be learned in the Announce Trailer or the playable demo for the Windows version that's available right now on Steam. Here's more:

STRANGER OF PARADISE FINAL FANTASY ORIGIN Announced

SQUARE ENIX announces STRANGER OF PARADISE FINAL FANTASY ORIGIN, an upcoming action/RPG being developed in collaboration with Team NINJA from KOEI TECMO GAMES. This will bring "a new vision to the FINAL FANTASY series" next year on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. In the meantime we are left with the Announcement Teaser Trailer and some developer commentary:
“While it is FINAL FANTASY, it feels different—but there's no doubt that the blood of FINAL FANTASY runs through its veins,” said Tetsuya Nomura, Creative Producer for STRANGER OF PARADISE FINAL FANTASY ORIGIN. “We've undertaken the challenge of finding this difficult middle ground for this mature and stylish title. Soulstice Announced

Hey sister, Soulsticer! Soulstice is a dark action/adventure in the works at developer Reply Game Studios and publisher Modus Games for release on Steam next year. The E3 Announcement Trailer shows off fast-paced combat as you play as a pair of sisters reborn as a fearsome Chimera. Here's more:
The balance of the Holy Kingdom of Keidas is compromised when powerful, feral creatures known as “Wraiths” invade from the other side of the Veil, threatening to consume the living. Wraiths corrupt their victims and can even possess their bodies, turning into unstoppable monsters that prey upon the common folk. The “Chimeras”, hybrid warriors born of the union of two souls, are the only ones who can protect humankind.

Briar and Lute are two sisters who have been reborn as a Chimera. The transformation has granted Briar superhuman strength and resilience, while Lute, who was sacrificed in order to bind her soul to her sister’s, has become a ghost with mystical powers. Voiced by Stefanie Joosten (Metal Gear Solid 5), Briar and Lute are sent on a mission to reclaim a city in ruins that has been ravaged by the Wraiths, only to discover that the Order they belong to has a far more complex plan in mind.

TinyKin Announced

Itty bitty publisher tinyBuild announces TinyKin, a 3D platformer where a kid works to regain his original size after being caught in one of those all-to-frequent shrinking mishaps. This is expected for release next year. Here's an Announcement Trailer with a look, and there's more on the game in its Steam Listing. Here's more on that:

Lakeburg Legacies Announced

Ishtar Games announces Lakeburg Legacies, a village management sim coming to PC this year via Steam. The Reveal Trailer shows off the game's medieval setting and hand-drawn art. It also shows those hoping for hacking and slashing are out of luck, as this is a far more sociable affair. Here's more:

Redfall Announced

Redfall is a vampire-infested, open-world first-person shooter in the works at Prey and Dishonored developer Arkane Austin. This will feature single-player and co-op support when it comes to Windows and Xbox Series X|S in (northern) summer 2022. The announcement has extensive backstory on the game's setting and a rundown on its roster of playable heroes. Here's the Official Announce Trailer and an overview:

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Announced

SQUARE ENIX unveils Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, a "bold" single-player action/adventure coming to PC, GeForce NOW, and consoles on October 26th. There are three different videos to introduce this. The Official Reveal Trailer is cinematics and this First Look shows off third-person gameplay. Then strap into the bathyscaphe for the Deep Dive, which features the development team at Eidos-Montréal, Bill Rosemann of Marvel Games, and award-winning comic book artist Dan Abnett. Here's the announcement:
Master Star-Lord’s dynamic combat style to obliterate foes with his Element Blasters and call on the unique abilities of each Guardian to defeat a wild variety of interplanetary enemies. Also, as self-proclaimed leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, players will engage in select player-choice driven dialogue and interactions between Quill and the Guardians that further strengthens the bonds within this dysfunctional family.

SQUARE ENIX announces that the first six FINAL FANTASY titles are returning in the FINAL FANTASY pixel remaster series. These beloved role-playing games will come to Steam and mobile as individual purchases. Further details are promised at a later date, so for now we have an E3 Teaser Trailer and the following:

Age of Empires IV in October

Microsoft announces Age of Empires IV will arrive on October 28th, offering a return to the venerable real-time strategy series. This will come to Windows via the Xbox Store and Steam, and each is now accepting pre-purchases. It will also feature on the Xbox Game Pass. A new Official Trailer featuring gameplay reveals the Abbasid Dynasty and the French as two more playable civilizations. Here's word on the game and its preorder bonuses:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl in April

A new trailer from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl offers a look at gameplay from the upcoming irradiated shooter sequel. The clip shows off some beautifully horrifying Russian campfire singing, some beautifully horrifying environments, and gameplay, both action-packed and strategic. It comes along with the news that the game will be released on April 28, 2022, and that preorders are now underway:
The game now has a release date — the players will return to the Zone on April 28, 2022.

We are pleased to acknowledge there are numerous ways for the players to enjoy the game. Forza Horizon 5 Announced

A post from Playground Games on Xbox Wire has first details on Forza Horizon 5, a new installment in the driving game series coming to Windows and Xbox on November 9th. An Official Announce Trailer shows off the game's depiction of an open-world Mexico. There's also an Official Gameplay Demo Video showing off some surprisingly intricate gameplay mechanics and some extremely spiffy looking automobiles. Here's a breakdown of what's on the horizon:

The Outer Worlds 2 Announced

Obsidian Entertainment announces The Outer Worlds 2, though plans for the sci-fi sequel are still fairly vague. There's an Official Announce Trailer with a cinematic look. The description says: "New solar system, new crew, same Outer Worlds. The Outer Worlds 2 is coming...and when that day is closer we will show you more...but until then enjoy this." Here are the other minimal details we have so far:

Plague Tale: Requiem Announced

Plague Tale: Requiem is another E3 announcement, as Xbox Wire reveals a sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence is coming next year. Make sure your cootie shots are up to date and check out the World Premiere Reveal Trailer and the slightly spoilery details:
After the original game’s epic finale to a heartbreaking story of resilience, players will embark on the emotional journey’s second chapter. They will follow Amicia and her brother Hugo on a perilous new quest, doing whatever it takes to survive a brutal, uncaring world.

Xbox Wire has the announcement of Replaced, a platformer where you play as an AI trapped in a human body. This is currently expected for release next year. Those who survived the 1980s know there's no substitute for the high point of humanity this represented. But this game will include an attempt to improve upon this perfection. Most of us think of the ‘80s as a time of questionable hairstyles, boom boxes, glam rock and the birth of iconic games like Pac-Man and Tetris; a simpler time (albeit with more glitter). Back 4 Blood Spectacle Trailer

A new Spectacle Trailer from Back 4 Blood offers the promised extended E3 look at the zombie shooter. Here's accompanying word on the game:

Diablo II: Resurrected Beta in August, Release in September

Those eager for a second date with the Lord of Terror don't have that much longer to wait, as Blizzard News unveils a September 23rd release date for Diablo II: Resurrected for Windows and consoles. Halo Infinite to Feature F2P Multiplayer

As part of today's E3 presentation for Halo Infinite, the upcoming first-person shooter sequel. The game is due this year, and Microsoft reveals that multiplayer modes will be free-to-play. All the details can be found on Xbox Wire. Here's a bit from Head of Creative Joseph Staten:
What gets me the most excited about this journey we’re starting together is the fact that multiplayer is free to play, and how that gives us the opportunity to build the biggest Halo community ever. Also, with cross play and cross-platform progression, there are almost no barriers to enjoying the game with friends, regardless of where they play. Psychonauts 2 in August

Xbox Wire also has word that Psychonauts 2 will launch on August 25th, offering everyone the chance to play this comedy platformer sequel from Double Fine Productions. A new Action Trailer offers a madcap look at the game. Word is the PC launch will only be for Windows, with macOS and Linux editions to follow:
Psychonauts 2 is an exciting journey through the mind filled with the signature Double Fine humor and heart, and a touch of next-level platforming. This game’s development began with a passionate group of fans crowdfunding the project to bring Psychonauts 2 to life across multiple platforms. When Psychonauts 2 launches on August 25, it will be available with Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 4 and 5 (with backwards compatibility). It will also release on Mac and Linux in the future.

This includes a solicitaton of media creations from players to related gameplay experiences from a decade of role-playing:
As we celebrate the tenth anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s release, we want to hear about the journeys you’ve gone on in and outside the game.

It can be video clip, a picture, or even your own original fanart - share with us your tales of grand adventure (or hilarious misadventure) you’ve experienced while playing Skyrim, or even how the game has impacted you in real life!

Starfield in November 2022

Bethesda unveiled a new Official Teaser Trailer for Starfield at E3, offering a cinematic look at this upcoming role-playing game set in space. The clip concludes with a release date for the highly anticipated game. Word is it will launch for Windows and as a console exclusive on Xbox on November 11th, 2021. You may recall the significance of this, as it is 11 years to the day following the launch The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Here's word from Xbox Wire:

Get Titan Souls for Free

Titan Souls is available for free on Steam for Windows and macOS. The soulslike action/adventure is apparently an E3 gift from developer Acid Nerve and publisher Devolver Digital. The game is yours to keep as long as you claim it over the next 24 hours or so. Here's a quick description:
Between our world and the world beyond lie the Titan Souls, the spiritual source and sum of all living things. Now scattered amongst the ruins and guarded by the idle titans charged with their care, a solitary hero armed with but a single arrow is once again assembling shards of the Titan Soul in a quest for truth and power.

Unbound: Worlds Apart Next Month

Alien Pixel announces Unbound: Worlds Apart will arrive for PC and Switch on July 28th. This metroidvania will also come to PlayStation and Xbox at some time after that. Blaston and Demo Updates This Month

A new Upload VR Showcase Video features famed designer Tom Hall outlining a couple of upcoming projects from Resolution Games. The first is an update for Blaston called Crackdown that's coming to the slow-motion VR shooter on June 21st. This will add new features, and a brand-new secret arena you'll have to locate before diving in. There's also a tease for an update for Demeo called Realm of the Rat King. Unknown Number Announced

Indie developer Godolphin Games announces Unknown Number, an upcoming game that introduces the "first-person talker" genre. This voice-controlled game is about fighting climate change coming to PC and mobile next year. The twist is this will be experienced entirely through "real" interactive phone calls. The Announcement Trailer will introduce the concept, as long as you don't send it straight to voicemail. Set your ringer to vibrate and read on for more:
