Only 30K Cyberpunk 2077 Refunds Issued

Though word is Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13.7 million copies in 2020, Kotaku quotes CD PROJEKT CFO Piotr Nielubowicz talking to investors during an earnings call, saying CDPR only had to issue 30,000 refunds to disgruntled customers:
Only a tiny fraction of the overall Cyberpunk 2077 sales resulted in refunds, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz told investors during an earnings call earlier today. Out of the 13.7 million copies sold, the Polish developer apparently issued just 30,000 refunds.

As for the monetary impact, the “Help Me Refund” program CD Projekt set up to handle requests from customers dissatisfied with Cyberpunk 2077 only cost the company approximately $2.17 million, a drop in the bucket compared to the over $560 million CD Projekt took in as 2020 revenue. Over 95% of these refunds have already been processed.

“The last single-digit percent below 5% is probably the most difficult part,” Nielubowicz added. “Please take into consideration that we are refunding people all over the world and working with different banking systems. It’s not an easy task.”

HUMANKIND OpenDev Access for Pre-purchases

Ampliteam announces the chance to play HUMANKIND to anyone who has pre-purchased the Windows and macOS historical strategy game through the Epic Games Store or Steam. There's a new naval OpenDev scenario, and pre-order customers can play this from the Neolithic era to the Early Modern era, or 150 turns, whichever comes first. This trailer shows off the new Victor OpenDev, while this video will help you get started with the scenario. More details can be found in this blog post. Here's an overview:
We've always believed that making the best games means involving our players at every step of the development process. Over the past months we've been giving players access to targeted slices of the game to gather feedback, via in-game surveys and our G2G forums.

Quite a few changes have been integrated since the "Lucy OpenDev" from last December. Players will be playing on a new fixed map with lots of water, so things will be more focused on naval gameplay (maps will be randomly generated in the game at release).

We've also integrated lots of changes based on the feedback we got during the Lucy OpenDev and are very excited for you to check them out!

Lacuna Release Next Month; Free Prologue Released

DigiTales Interactive and Assemble Entertainment announce a May 20th Steam release date for Lacuna, a pixel-art sci-fi noir adventure game for Windows. To whet everyone's appetites, a one-hour Lacuna: Prologue is now available on Steam, offering a free sample of what to expect. Here's a trailer with a look at the prologue, and here's more on the game:
In Lacuna, you’ll step into the tattered loafers of long-time Central Department of Investigation (CDI) agent Neil Conrad, who’s just been informed of a grisly murder that will soon turn his world upside down. Attention to detail and an inquisitive mind will prove vital as you put the scattered pieces of the case together until the truth reveals itself...or not. The story of Lacuna branches, and finally ends, based on your actions throughout the game — and there’s no going back. Don’t try rushing to the end, or you’ll pay a hefty price; play your cards right and you might just make it out alive.

Lacuna does away with the baggage of many over-used adventure game tropes such as the “point-and-click” mechanic, repeating dialogue options, counter-intuitive puzzles, pixel hunting, and interruptive story breaks. Instead, Lacuna utilizes normal WASD/controller controls, dynamic conversational choices, story-driven mysteries, optional interactables, multiple unique endings, and a story that marches onward in spite of obstacles.

Tandem: A Tale of Shadows

Developer Monochrome and publisher Hatinh Interactive offer a Story Reveal Trailer for Tandem: A Tale of Shadows, a puzzle/platformer coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch later this year. The trailer shows off the game's Victorian setting, dreamlike quality, and admitted influences of Jules Verne, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Tim Burton. Here's more on the story:
The game follows a headstrong girl named Emma and an adorable teddy bear named Fenton as they attempt to find clues regarding Thomas Kane’s mysterious disappearance. Inspired by Jules Vernes, Conan Doyle and Tim Burton, each dimension in Tandem feels like a German expressionist or Dutch golden age art piece brought to life.

When Thomas Kane, the only son of a famous family of illusionists, inexplicably vanishes, 10-year-old Emma decides to investigate. On her way to the Kanes’ manor, Emma witnesses Fenton innocently bounce from a speeding carriage. The girl and the teddy bear chase after the wagon and enter the manor’s grounds. A captivating story of illusory dangers and shifting perspectives begins.

In Tandem: A Tale of Shadows, fans of puzzle platformers and action and adventure games will be able to peel back the curtain enshrouding five beautiful Victorian-inspired worlds. Players will alternate between Emma’s top-down view and Fenton’s horizontal side-scroller view, using the former’s lantern to cast shadows the teddy bear can cross. Intelligent obstacles and clever gameplay mechanics will force players to constantly remain on their toes.
