Open World BioShock Plans

Developer Cloud Chamber has posted several job listings for the next BioShock game (thanks PCGamesN). These postings include a UI/UX Designer, a Senior World Designer, a Senior Technical Designer, and a Senior Writer. That last listing in particular has a point of interest, as it reveals the next installment in the series will apparently use an open world setting:
Cloud Chamber is looking for a Senior Writer to join our talented Narrative team to bring the world of BioShock to life once again. Under the supervision of the Lead Writer, and collaborating closely with the Narrative and Design teams, our Senior Writer will craft memorable narrative arcs, write dialogue, and breathe life into our characters. Experience in writing for games, with a particular aptitude for managing the nuances of interactive storytelling, would be ideal for this role. We’re hoping to find someone who can weave impactful, character-driven stories in an open world setting.

More Battlefield Leakage

Noted Battlefield leaker Tom Henderson continues to take a leak all over the next Battlefield game. He issued a tweet showing a hand-drawing that supposedly depicts a map from the next installment in the military shooter series seen in a cinematic trailer that's due next month. This shows an island that is very large and a tornado rolling in, indicating the game will feature variable weather effects. There are also six to eight Ospreys he believes are flyable. A follow up tweet from All Things Gaming turns the sketch into a full-blown piece of concept art. In another tweet Tom defends his veracity, and questions why he would risk a hard-earned reputation by lying. His most recent tweet on the subject calls this:
The calm before the storm.

Easy Day Studios announces that Skater XL players now have access to the open beta for a new Free Skate Multiplayer mode for the skateboarding game. This is currently only in the Windows edition, but it will come to the Xbox and PlayStation versions down the road. Here's a trailer with a look, and here's an explanation:
From the beginning of our development, we have always envisioned Skater XL to be very different from the linear content and challenges of skating games of the past, seeing Skater XL more as a sandbox style platform for creative expression and social interaction. Our support and facilitation of player created mod content was one step in this direction, with the next logical step being the creation of a multiplayer system.

Free Skate Multiplayer is our first step in opening up social modes in the game and features:

  • Skate with up to 10 people online - Join a random room or start your own private one and invite your friends to join using a passcode
  • Replays - Replay and save your group party lines, with the same replay editor functionality available in single player mode

Out of the Blue

I want to thank all of you who provided feedback on my recent comment about replacing my debit card. While that card claims various forms of fraud protection, I recognize that using a credit card is an inherently safer and wiser way to go. So I applied for one to use for online purchases and subscriptions. And since this was through my bank it was a very smooth operation. It took just minutes to apply and I got approved in less than a minute, which seems amazingly modern. Since my debit card was cancelled when I reported it missing, it should be easy enough to set up things with the new credit card. I'm sure I will receive notifications when my debit card fails to go through.
