VALORANT Adding New Agent in Episode 2 Next Week

RETAKE is a new Episode 2 cinematic for VALORANT teasing new content coming to Riot's first-person shooter on January 12th, including a new battle pass and a new agent. There are details on this in The Washington Post (may require registration or subscription), explaining the new character is named Yoru, a stealthy infiltrator. Or rather "stealthly," as they explain: "While teams often play together in 'Valorant,' there is sometimes value in one or several players splitting off from the group and trying to flank or surprise the opponent. Yoru’s kit, which includes abilities that allow him to teleport, create misleading decoy sources of noise and blind opponents, makes him an ideal agent for that kind of play. The game’s developers refer to this skill set as 'Stealthly Infiltration,' and no, that’s not a typo." Here's more:
Yoru’s abilities include:

  • Fakeout: An ability that plays on the importance of sound cues, Fakeout triggers decoy footsteps walking in a direction chosen by the player, mimicking the sound of a real player.
  • Gatecrash: This ability works as a teleport beacon. Yoru can either fire a tether forward and teleport to its location, or drop it in a safe spot and teleport back to it after walking away.
  • Blindside: This ability is easier to explain than the previous two. It’s a flash grenade that only activates once it has bounced against a surface. In effect, this forces Yoru players to flash around corners, or to bounce their flash against the ground before activating it.
  • Dimensional Drift: Yoru’s ultimate ability makes him temporarily invisible and invulnerable to opponents, allowing him to relocate and reposition or scout ahead without being noticed.

Out of the Blue

Looking forward to this weekend's tackle football games. I am definitely in favor of the switch in the playoff format that makes for six games today. I like the extra games, and I'm not a fan of byes, so this is a win-win. I'll be doing a little indoor tailgating, as I picked up the meat and peppers for my chili, and will be cooking it as I watch. The recipe I'm using is from the NYT Cooking, which I think requires a subscription. I've made this a few times and have continued to evolve it to my own so maybe I'll post "my" version of it for those who want to try it themselves (I'll have to consult the crack Blue's News legal team if I can get them to put down the crack pipes).
