Outriders Demo Next Month; Release Delayed to April

This tweet reveals another delay for Outriders as well as plans to release a demo next month for People Can Fly's upcoming third-person shooter. The release is now expected on April 1st following the release of a demo on February 25th. The game was originally due during the summer and just three months ago it was announced it would come on February 2nd. Now word is it will come on April Fool's Day instead of Groundhog Day:
Happy New Year. We believe that it's important that players get to experience a new IP like Outriders before release, so that you can decide for yourself whether the game is something you wish to preorder, purchase or play.

For this reason we're excited to announce that on February 25th, 2021 we will be publishing a free demo, giving everyone the chance to play the first few hours of the game with all four classes - in both single player and co-op - along with seamless migration of your character and progress to the full game.

Speaking of which, we have decided to move the release date about riders to April 1st, 2021 no joke. We will spend this extra time fine tuning the game and focusing on delivering a fantastic play experience at launch.

inXile's Unannounced RPG Revealed

A group of current job openings at inXile Entertainment reveal plans for an unannounced game, as such listings often do. As noted on Twisted Voxel (thanks PCGamesN), the listings indicate this is a next-generation AAA RPG being created with Unreal Engine 4. Here's the abstract from the listing for an Art Director:
InXile Entertainment is looking for a talented and experienced Art Director for a next-generation role-playing game. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and creative innovator with experience leading and managing large art teams, combined with a proven track record in developing extraordinary visuals in modern RPGs and other games. Working directly with the Game Director and other project stakeholders, the Art Director is expected to set and maintain a high visual bar - and then help lead a AAA art team on one of the studio’s flagship titles. This is a rare opportunity to help bring an extraordinary new world to life with some of the industry’s most well-known gamemakers and storytellers.

Cyberpunk 2077 Player Count Drops; CDPR Refutes Alleged Developer Post

TechRadar notes that the player count on Cyberpunk 2077 has dropped by over 75% since a dramatic peak of over one million concurrent players around the launch of the sci-fi RPG less than a month ago. Games generally experience fall-offs in player counts over time, but this seems rapid, they note that The Witcher 3 took about three months to hit a similar decline. In other news about the game, CD PROJEKT RED made a post to their own forums to refute a recent post on GameFAQs that was allegedly from one of their developers speaking anonymously. The post made several points about the game and the process of developing it and addressing problems with the release version, and the developer responds with an unequivocal denial, saying: "We usually do not comment on rumours, but this is simply not true."

New Arkane Game Hint

There's an interview with Harvey Smith on Vandal, talking with the director of Arkane Austin in the site's native Spanish. Putting their linguistic skills to work, IGN translates the conversation to show how Harvey reveals he is currently working on a new unannounced project:
Speaking to Vandal (and translated by IGN), Smith explained that he had moved back to Austin after completing Dishonored 2 at Arkane's Lyon studio, and confirmed that he's not a part of the company's next game, but a separate unannounced project: "I'm not on Deathloop , I'm on something else, working with the guys who made Dishonored and Prey."

Games and Interactive Media 2020 in Review

SuperData Research has issued a year in review report analyzing the games and interactive media market in 2020. They offer a summary of their findings that includes a link to download their free report if you want to immerse yourself in the details. Saying the COVID-19 epidemic accelerated growth in several areas, they report digital game earnings increased 12% year-over-year compared to 2019. Growth areas of note include premium game earnings rising by 28% and video content (streaming) becoming a $9.3 billion industry. They also look forward, saying the availability of a COVID-19 vaccine is not expected to crash the games market and they project interactive entertainment earnings will increase by another 2% in 2021. SuperData, a Nielsen company, today is releasing its 2020 Year in Review report focusing on the health of digital games and interactive media market, the impact of COVID-19 on games and brands, and likely gaming trends in 2021.

Overall, digital games alone earned $126.6B in 2020, up 12% year-over-year in a year where audiences were forced to stay home and interact remotely. Here are key SuperData findings:

SuperMash on Steam Next Week

Digital Continue announces plans to release SuperMash Steam on January 13th. It will be a little hard to describe exactly what to expect, because gameplay involves randomly created retro games that mash-up two different genres. The Windows edition is actually already available on the Epic Games Store where it was released a year ago, but this was not noted here at the time. A Steam Launch Trailer shows off some of the chaos that this creates. The description explains more of what's going on here:

Habroxia 2 Next Month

Lillymo Games confirms Habroxia 2 will come to Steam and consoles on February 3rd as planned. This previously released trailer shows off this side-scrolling space shooter sequel. Here's more:

Billion Beat Released

Billion Beat is now available on Steam, offering a boxing game developer Dronami says draws inspiration from '90’s cartoons like Ren & Stimpy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This intends to be quite edgy, as word is the final boss is (spoiler alert) a "large alien penis-man that can ejaculate on the player." Out of the Blue

The winter has set in to the point where I'm gearing up to make a batch of chili to help fend off the cold. This will actually be the inaugural batch for the new BlueTower, as I didn't manage to make any last year. The last time I made this I used a different recipe than the one posted here and I liked the outcome. I'll have to negotiate with MrsBlue, as she likes it better the old way. If I do make the newer recipe I'll share it here after I dig it up.
