Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access Class Details

Larian Studios announces the races, variations and classes that will be available in Baldur's Gate 3 when the Early Access version of their RPG sequel launches on October 6th. They say players will have the choice of 16 races/subraces and six different classes. Details and screenshots can be found on the Baldur's Gate 3 Website. Here's a bit:
At launch, players will be able to create humans, githyanki, elves, drow, half-elf, dwarves, halflings, and tieflings, including subraces of each race. The early access release of Baldur’s Gate 3 provides around 25 hours of content, designed for multiple playthroughs. Players can create their own characters in single-player, or as a party of up to four players in multiplayer, each with their own character.

Races more alien to the Sword coast -- like the Drow and Githyanki -- are so rare to the average NPC that you’ll find their interactions to be unique, as well. The world of Baldur’s Gate 3 is a highly reactive one, so this single choice will have huge ramifications across your play experience.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s character creation features photorealistic fantasy races based on 3D scans of actors and models (blemishes and all), selected because their features roughly resembled the direction for each race in the game, as well as, of course, for diversity and variety in the human-like races. Our team spent much of pre-production carefully selecting, scanning, and moulding these scans to become the base heads for character creation. Launching into early access is a total of 150 heads to pick from, across 16 races and subraces.

Fallout 76 C.A.M.P. Shelter Testing

The Fallout Website discusses the C.A.M.P. Shelters feature for Fallout 76, which will add player-controlled instanced shelters to the post-apocalyptic RPG. This explains plans to start testing on the PTR yesterday, but there's also an update saying this was postponed due to an issue they encountered. Fortunately, as noted on the Bethesda.net Community Forums this got cleared up this afternoon and testing is now underway. They offer details on how they're facilitating testing, as well as more on what this feature will bring to the game when it goes live:
Once we add Shelters to the live game, all players will be able to freely unlock the “Vault Utility Room” by completing a very brief quest, called “Home Expansion.” The “Vault Lobby” will initially be one of our monthly free items for Fallout 1st members. After that, all players will be able to buy the Lobby using Atoms in the Atomic Shop. The largest of our first three Shelters, the “Vault Atrium,” will be available for Atom purchase immediately on patch day. In the PTS, we’ve disabled the “Home Expansion” quest so that you don’t need to unlock anything, and play testers will have access to all three Shelters right away.

MS Flight Simulator VR Beta

An October 1st, 2020 Development Update on the Microsoft Flight Simulator Website announces that a closed beta is about to get underway for the virtual reality version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. This page explains how to apply to be a tester along with details on how this test flight will operate:
The Microsoft Flight Simulator team is looking for dedicated Microsoft Flight Simulator community members to help us test out our upcoming VR builds. To ensure we are focusing feedback & learnings, we will be rolling out the Closed Beta into two phases. The first phase will focus on Windows Mixed Reality Devices (WMR HMDs). The second phase will expand to include additional devices.

Our goal for Microsoft Flight Simulator VR is to create an incredible and immersive experience. We are excited to share this with you and look forward to hearing your feedback! We want to continue to make this for our core audience and we can’t think of a better way than to have our core audience help us test. While we wish we could invite everyone unfortunately this won’t be the case. Much like our previous Alpha and Beta phases, we will only allow a select group of testers at any given time. It is important to understand that signing up for the Closed Beta does not mean you will gain access.

  • GamesIndustry.biz: Hardware launches and pre-orders desperately need a shake-up - Opinion.
"Not only is this situation not inevitable, and not a mere repeat of the decades-old pattern of hardware launch sales, it's also completely avoidable. The internet has made these launches into a total disaster, a magnet for scalpers and a significant pain point for the industry's most enthusiastic and high-spending consumers. But it doesn't have to be this way, because the internet also offers us better ways of doing this."

GeForce RTX 3070 Launch Delayed

NVIDIA offers a GeForce RTX 3070 Availability Update, announcing a delay to the launch of their GeForce RTX 3070 cards. They say this is to make more units available on launch day, which is now October 29th. It seems like the same number of cards will be available by that day whether or not they first launch them on October 17th as previously planned, but they feel this makes things better:
Production of GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards are ramping quickly. We’ve heard from many of you that there should be more cards available on launch day. To help make that happen, we are updating the availability date to Thursday, October 29th.

We know this may be disappointing to those eager to purchase a GeForce RTX 3070 as soon as possible, however this shift will help our global partners get more graphics cards into the hands of gamers on launch day.

The GeForce RTX 3070 delivers incredible performance and features, including NVIDIA Reflex and Broadcast, for $499. Across a variety of ray-traced and rasterized DirectX and Vulkan titles, the GeForce RTX 3070 delivers similar or faster performance than the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (which sold for twice the price) and is on average 60% faster than the original GeForce RTX 2070.

GeForce Hotfix Driver

NVIDIA has released a version 456.71 GeForce Hotfix Driver as an update for their Game Ready Driver 456.55 (thanks DSOGaming). Here's what they are hotly fixing:
The hotfix addresses the following issues:

  • Launching a game in full screen mode may trigger a black screen on adaptive sync monitors if G-SYNC is enabled
  • [Fortnite] Game may experience crash when using in-game RTX Shadows/Reflection
  • [Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition] Enabling Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling results in lower frame rate

Out of the Blue

A couple of you mentioned that you were not seeing the custom logo I mentioned yesterday. Caused by how some browsers cache images, this has always been an annoyance, reminding us of how this affected some of you years ago when these logos were first being rotated here. The good news is that Frans came up with a solution that will hopefully prevent this from being a problem going forward. If you were still seeing the default logo yesterday (this is only on desktop resolutions, by the way), feel free to let us know if this has or has not fixed the problem. It may be we'll have to wait until the next time we change the logo to know for sure how this is working out.

Cached Round-up
Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.
