Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition Demos: The Final Epic Roundup

Clearly we didn't realize what we were getting into when we thought we could post roundups to cover all the demos coming as part of today's Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition. Then we got the announcement from Valve showing the magnitude of our miscalculation. This reveals that they are currently offering no fewer than 900 demos involved in this extravaganza. So rather than use a gatling gun's worth of bullets to list them all, we'll just admit defeat and refer you to the Steam Game Festival, Summer Edition Page for a listing of all the demos, livestreams, and developer chats that are part of this. Here's the announcement:
The Steam Game Festival, featuring over 900 playable demos, is on now!

The Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition- the largest yet- is on now, featuring hundreds of free demos from games set to be released in the coming year.

From now until June 22 at 10am PDT, the Steam Game Festival showcases the newest games across every genre from developers in 65 countries. Fans have a chance to try out new projects from first-time devs and veteran developers alike, including the opportunity to be among the first to demo some of the most highly anticipated games of the coming year.

The event also features unique content throughout the week, including:

  • Developer demos and livestreams
  • Developer Spotlight: Original interviews
  • Playthroughs with the devs themselves

This is the third Steam Game Festival, and the largest yet. What began as a collaboration with Geoff Keighley and the Game Awards featuring a dozen titles soon branched off as a Valve-run event, with over 40 demos featured this spring- and now over 900 titles in the summer edition.

Iron Harvest Demo

A playable demo for Iron Harvest is now available on Steam, offering the chance to sample this upcoming alternate reality RTS game for Windows. Here's word on this game's take on the roaring '20s:
Iron Harvest is a real-time strategy game (RTS) set in the alternate reality of 1920+, just after the end of the Great War. The Game lets you control giant dieselpunk mechs, combining epic singleplayer and coop campaigns as well as skirmishes with intense action on the battlefield for multiplayer fans, Iron Harvest is the classic real-time strategy games fans have been waiting for.

Tradition clashes with scientific and technological progress, while Europe is still recovering from the brutal battles of the World War. Cities are being rebuilt and in the countryside, the era of the Iron Harvest has begun. Farmers are uncovering the remains of the majestic walking machines that had fought on the battlefields of the Great War.

In the midst of this chaos, a new threat appears that will put Europe’s very existence at risk. Secret forces are putting everything they can towards destabilization of entire countries, determined to set the world on fire once again and finally seize control.

VALORANT Ranked Mode Next Week

A tweet from Ziegler announces that Riot expects to launch rated/ranked competitive play next week for VALORANT, their multiplayer shooter (thanks The Loadout). Here's word:
Hey everyone, It's been hectic, so I haven't had a lot of time to post. To answer the biggest question: rated (competitive mode) will likely be out some time next week. We're spending this week putting together that release and making sure it is good. =)

Conan Exiles Patch Removes Denuvo

A new version 16.06.2020 patch for Conan Exiles is now available on Steam, updating the Windows multiplayer survival game with balance changes and removing Denuvo (thanks DSOGaming). Here's word:
Today we’re releasing our new update, focused on re-balancing a few aspects of the game. We’ve focused on followers and world bosses, making thralls slightly less of a powerhouse, but also toning down bosses’ health pools accordingly. The goal of these changes is to increase player power compared to Followers. We’ll continue to look at ways to re-balance the game, and we can’t wait to show you what’s coming in the near future.

With this update we have also fixed many of the issues that affected the avatar system in the game, fixing some exploits that abused them as well as re-balancing some of its core mechanics. They are still not enabled in official servers, but we will let you know in advance once we flip the switch during the upcoming weeks.

Additional to these changes we have also implemented the Funcom Live Services into the game that aims to create a smoother user experience while playing online, as well as removed Denuvo from the game. And together with all these changes, we have also bundled fixes for crashes, server optimizations, some exploit fixes, fixes to Argossean pieces, gave the Abyssal Remnant a wake up call and much more!

Into the Black

I thought this Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition would demand keeping up with a bunch of demo releases. But as noted above, this turned out to be a futile dream. So I'm going to wrap up early and fire up Manstovia to cook MrsBlue some birthday dinner.

Space Invaders Day Celebrated With Booze, Pandemic Protections. Did not know this was a thing. Apparently the arcade game debuted on June 16, 1978.

Out of the Blue

Happy birthday to my better half, as today is MrsBlue's birthday. The celebration will be pretty subdued, as neither of us is that eager to try our luck yet testing the loosening of social distancing restrictions. So there will be no dining out or any such thing. We are pretty low-key about our birthdays in general, so it's not really cramping our style anyway. I guess that's good news, because there's this whole Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition getting underway today, and this may end up running into the evening here on the east coast. Expect a lot of time-limited demos to launch today, even though the logic of everyone launching demos competing for the same limited amount of playing time doesn't seem to have even a little logic to it. Guess my failure to appreciate this shows why I'm not some high-powered marketing maven.
