Deep Rock Galactic Roadmap

In a lengthy update on Steam Ghost Ship Crew lays out a roadmap (starmap?) for Deep Rock Galactic, their co-op first-person shooter set in space, where no one can hear you pew pew pew. The game just officially launched following its Early Access period, but they are not resting on their laurels. They say Update 31 is due in three or four weeks as a post-launch update, update 32 is due in Q3, and update 33 is coming in Q4. They also indicate there are additional major updates on the event horizon. Here's the overview of plans for the rest of this year:
UPDATE 31: QUICK POST-LAUNCH UPDATE
In the process of finishing the 1.0 build, we had to leave a handful of new features and content behind. But now we are dusting them off and have decided to quickly put together a new update. This first post-launch update, called Update 31 for now, should be released in about 3-4 weeks time, so early to mid June. It will include 3 new Secondary Mission Objectives which we’d hoped to have ready 1.0, but they needed a bit more time in the pot. The new Secondary Objectives will help add more variation to all missions and is a good example of the overall goal we have for the new roadmap. Check the roadmap picture below for details on this post-launch update.

UPDATE 32 + 33: BIG UPDATES AFTER SUMMER
We’ve had a survey running in the Exit Game menu for several months now, asking you what you’d like us to focus on. The votes are in, and an overwhelming number of you simply want more of what’s already there, more variety. This aligns perfectly with our own desires to get our focus back onto the game’s cave content, and that’s reflected in our sparkly new Roadmap below, and the headlines of the upcoming Updates. At its core, this is a game about action and exploration in alien caves, and we can't wait to get back into the production of new Missions, new Biomes and new Enemy types to make this better than ever. Update 32 will arrive in Q3, so because of summer vacation (yes, even devs go on vacation) do expect quite a bit of waiting time before it lands.

Mojang Becomes Mojang Studios

The Minecraft Website reveals that Mojang is celebrating Minecraft's 11th birthday with a new name, and they will be henceforth known as Mojang Studios. This is going to take a lot of getting used to, but they go even further and unveil a new logo. They say there's a secret "hiding" in their new logo, and offer this trailer to introduce "the mysterious little gizmos known as the Mojangs." Here's word:
We will say this: play is at the heart of Mojang Studios. It’s the blocky backbone of our games, the core of our development philosophy, and even entangled in our name (which roughly translates to “gadget” in lovely, old-timey Swedish). And now, finally, it’s squarely planted in our new, modular logo.

But we have yet to reveal our biggest little secrets. They are hiding in plain sight – in this very blog post – as part of the new logo. Introducing: the Mojangs! These mysterious little gizmos are powered by play. They test and tinker, endlessly explore, and help us discover new corners of the Minecraft universe.

Not entirely sure you understand what the Mojangs are? No worries! We created this entirely straightforward and scientifically sound trailer to explain their origin, especially for you:

Epic Games Store Giveaways Total Over $2K

PCGamesN busted out a calculator to figure out the value of all the games given away for free on the Epic Games Store during their promotional freebies spree. This added up quickly, as we are surprised to see the retail value of all these giveaways comes to more than USD$2,000. Here's word:
We added up the full list of 108 free games that Epic’s had on offer since launch, using the regular sale price of the base versions of each game – the versions of the software that have been offered as the freebies, basically. Sure, some of these games have been available deeply discounted or free elsewhere, but we’re going with the non-sale price as a rough gauge of how valuable each title is.

All together, from Subnautica to Grand Theft Auto V this week, the total value of the free games the Epic Games Store has given away is $2,140.94 USD. That’s equivalent to £1,768.83, although the total value in pounds is probably a bit different due to regional pricing variations.

Out of the Blue

As noted in this post Frans completed a project this morning to convert the database here to Unicode UTF-8 character encoding. This is the default recommended by the W3 for HTML. The change should help clear up the occasional appearance of unusual characters like the Chinese noted in that thread. Frans is still looking at some things that came out odd after the conversion, but if you notice anything that looks wrong in news stories or forum posts going forward, please let us know. Thanks!
