New Battlefield Next Year?

VGC has a statement from Electronic Arts that seems to narrow down the release of the next installment in the Battlefront series of first-person shooters to sometime before the end of 2021:
“The team at DICE is working on the standalone Battlefield V update releasing this summer, and continuing their work on delivering Community Games,” said an EA spokesperson.

“While the studio’s vision for Star Wars Battlefront II is now complete with this week’s The Battle on Scarif Update, the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events and game support will continue as the game lives on with players and the community. We’re looking forward to hearing players’ stories for both games, for years to come.

“Longer term, the studio is focused on the future of Battlefield that we’ll be bringing to players in 2021.”

WarriOrb Released

WarriOrb is now available on Steam, offering the release version of this "devilishly difficult" platformer for Windows and Linux from developer Not Yet. Riot Adds User Controls to VALORANT Anti-Cheat

Riot is responding to player concerns about the system level measures of Vanguard, their anti-cheat tool for VALORANT. In a post on Reddit they explain the tool will now show a system tray icon that will allow the player to turn off Vanguard. Turning off the utility will put your computer in an untrusted state that will prevent you from accessing the multiplayer shooter until it is re-enabled and the machine is rebooted. They offer a FAQ with a load of details and the following overview:
Starting today, Vanguard will start showing a system tray icon (after a reboot) while it's running. From there, you'll be able to turn off Vanguard at any time. Turning off Vanguard puts your machine in an untrusted mode and will prevent you from playing VALORANT until you reboot. If you want to keep Vanguard off indefinitely until you play VALORANT (e.g. persisting across multiple reboot sessions), you'll be able to do so more easily now by uninstalling it from the handy dandy system tray. Vanguard will automatically be reinstalled when you launch VALORANT. If you dislike the new system tray icon, you'll be able to disable (or re-enable) it at any time by going into your Windows Notification Area.

Vanguard may block certain incompatible or vulnerable software from running on your machine. If this happens, you'll see a notification like this pop up. Clicking on the notification will give you more information on what exactly was blocked. You're able to opt-out of this at any time by following the instructions in the previous paragraph.

Age of Conan Onslaught Release

By Crom! Funcom announces today's launch of a new Onslaught update for Age of Conan, saying this is the most massive update in years for their free-to-play Hyborian Age MMORPG. Here's a trailer showing the onslaught of Onslaught and here's a rundown on the new game mode, new quests, and new gear it includes:
Age of Conan broke sales records and received critical acclaim when it was first released in May 2008. Since then the game has become free-to-play and was in 2011 rebranded to Age of Conan: Unchained. Funcom has over the years continued to support the game, with new areas, dungeons and massive improvements to gameplay. Onslaught introduces a new game area based on Robert E. Howard’s Black Colossus (1933), one of the original short stories featuring Conan the Barbarian. Here, you will be faced with a new threat, as the ancient wizard Thugra Khotan has awoken after thousands of years and is seeking to fulfill his ambition of world domination. Waves of ferocious armies will charge at you on the steps of the great Ivory Dome of Kutchemes. The dome itself is said to contain unimaginable riches, but also a slumbering dread god.

Archer: The Witch's Wrath Announced

Archer: The Witch's Wrath is a first-person shooter in the works at Image Power that's "coming soon" to Steam. As you can see in the gameplay teaser this takes pointed relish in arrow porn. This makes sense, as this is designed by archery enthusiasts. Here's the description, which has a certain Robin Hood flair:
History of revenge in a classic fantasy setting
Meet Johan, one of the Forest Bandits - a group of rogues robbing merchant caravans and spoiling the lives of people travelling through the forest. Frequent disruptions on the trade route were driving mad the owner of the lands, who was helpless until now. In order to get rid of the outlaws, he issued a wanted notice and set a huge reward for capturing each of them. This lured to the forest multiple brave men, who will try to get rid of Johan and his associates, in exchange for the bounty.

Johan is far from being a hero. He is very self-confident, acts solely in his own interest and only when it is absolutely worth the effort. He is an excellent archer - knows all the nuances of the craft and never misses. Playing as Johan, you will be a true master of the profession.

Op Ed

  • Kotaku - Major Video Game Companies Could Be Doing More For Covid-19 Relief.
"The covid-19 pandemic is the biggest crisis many of us have seen in our lifetimes. Infection numbers continue to grow, coronavirus-related deaths are all too common, and millions have found themselves without income. It’s only natural to look fondly at big-looking checks in a time of need, no matter the source. But the numbers show just how trivial recent donations from massive video game companies really are in the grand scheme of things. If the situation’s gotten so bad that these leftovers are worthy of celebration, we’re in deeper shit than I thought."

Out of the Blue

It's been very cold and rainy around here lately, but MrsBlue and I took a walk around our community when the rain actually let up the other day. We encountered a pair of fellows walking towards us. One, wearing a mask, moved towards the side of the path, but the other, carrying his mask walked down the middle... the ambulatory version of manspreading. We asked him to move aside as we approached, and he said "I don't care about you." I just can't even... On top of the risk to her with her asthma, MrsBlue also came home with a tick on her. The weather is nice again today, but I'm not sure I'll be able to convince her to chance another walk. And I can't say I blame her.

Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.
