POSTAL 4 Delivered to Early Access

In a surprise release, Early Access to POSTAL 4: No Regerts is now available for Windows on Steam, offering a new installment in Running With Scissors' outrageous open-world shooter series (thanks Gematsu). Here's an Early Access Launch Trailer with a look at the game's over-the-top action set to the sounds of Tattoo the Scars. The description of the clip has details, calling this a sequel to POSTAL 2 in an effort to deny the existence of POSTAL 3, which was released on Steam back in 2011 without the involvement of Running With Scissors:
The POSTAL Dude is back!

Several years have passed since the events that devastated the once proud town remembered as Paradise. The only two to walk away from the cataclysm unscathed, the hapless everyman known as the POSTAL Dude and his loyal companion Champ, drive aimlessly through the scorching deserts of Arizona looking for a new place to call home. After a fortuitous gas station rest stop ends with their car, trailer home, and the rest of their worldly possessions stolen, all the Dude’s seemingly got left to his name is his canine cohort and his bathrobe, and neither of them smells all that great. However, on the horizon, the duo glimpses an unfamiliar and dazzling town that beckons to them. What untold prospects lie within? Fame? Fortune? Maybe a bidet or two? Edensin awaits.

POSTAL 4: No Regerts is a satirical and outrageous comedic open world first person shooter and the long-awaited true sequel to what’s been fondly dubbed as "The Worst Game Ever™", POSTAL 2! (No third game is known to exist.)

Offworld Trading Company: The Europa Wager Announced

Stardock and Mohawk Games announce The Europa Wager, a second expansion for Offworld Trading Company they say is coming to the interstellar commerce game "soon." There's a rundown on this on the Offworld Trading Company Website and the Steam Listing for the add-on is now online. Here's the pitch:
Today, Stardock and Mohawk Games announced The Europa Wager, the second expansion for Soren Johnson's economic strategy game, Offworld Trading Company™. The all-new addition to the Offworld series will take players to the frozen moon of Europa, where numerous cracks on the surface make building and sustaining new structures a challenge.

Offworld Trading Company is a real-time strategy game in which money, not military force, is the weapon. Stake claims to resources, extract and develop them into goods and upgrades, all while buying and selling in the real-time, player driven marketplace.
Some of the highlights in The Europa Wager include:

  • New planet: Europa
  • New resources: Methane, Magnesium
  • New buildings: Methane Extractor, Gas and Hydrothermal Plants
  • New scenarios

The Europa Wager's scenarios provide a host of new challenges to overcome as you try to establish a new colony that will stand against the frozen elements. Like the rest of the Offworld series, the expansion brings real-world elements into its gameplay. For example, although water will not be hard to find on the frozen moon, aluminum is non-existent.

Gears 5 Quitters Risk Lengthy Bans

In a tweet late last week, The Coalition Studio cautions players who quit Gears 5 multiplayer matches that they risk being banned from the shooter sequel for up to a year (thanks VG247). Here's the warning:
Quitters have been receiving month to year long suspensions for prior behavior.

This is how long you can be suspended for being a rampant quitter. Take heed.

Over the next few hours, impacted users will be un-suspended, but 1 quit away from suspension.

You have been warned.

Fortnite Apocalypse

#FortniteBlackout is currently trending on Twitter as the game world in Fortnite imploded into a black hole yesterday. In its wake this cataclysm left a minigame playable by entering the Konami code as well as a coded message that's being furiously analyzed in places like Fortnite INTEL (thanks PCGamesN) and Reddit. A recent leak suggested Fortnite Chapter 2 will bring a new map to the battle royale shooter, and this tweet says this may be getting underway on October 15th, which begins in a couple of hours in China (thanks WCCFTECH). Something is afoot, as a Fortnite livestream that began 20 hours ago is still underway, though there's not much happening at the moment. Continue here to read the full story.

Infinity Ward Not Working on Loot Boxes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Responding to rumors about plans for loot boxes coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Infinity Ward took to Twitter to say these are inaccurate, and that they "are definitely NOT working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system" for the upcoming military shooter (thanks WCCFTECH). That's pretty definitive for now, though it does not rule out the idea that they may work on such a system in the future. Here's the full statement:
Sigh. There continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare. What I can say right now is that we are definitely NOT working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system. Also, functional stuff is unlocked through GAMEPLAY. Stay tuned, we're planning to release info this week.

You can browse through the 2,541 recent additions through this link and view the entire Software Library here, which now includes more than 19,000 entries. Word is this is the library's largest update yet:
Another few thousand DOS Games are playable at the Internet Archive! On Microsoft Flight Simulator VR Plans

In an audio interview with AVSim, talks with Microsoft's Jorg Newman and Asobo Studios' Sebastian Wloch about the upcoming revival of Microsoft Flight Simulator. An interesting element of this is highlighted by VentureBeat, where they note the discussion touches on how this oddly did not initially include plans for VR support until the prospect was raised by gamers. Word is this may not make it into the game for launch, but they seem committed to adding it as quickly as possible:
“Right after the E3 trailer came out there was a lot of people making that exact assumption, that ‘Oh yeah, this better be supporting VR right from the get go.’ It honestly wasn’t our plan. But we are listening, and we heard it, so we will try our darnedest to make it happen. Whether or not we’re going to pull it off for launch, we can’t commit to that at this point in time, but we are aware of the desire […] We will try to prioritize that over other things.”

Gensokyo Night Festival Early Access

Gensokyo Night Festival is now available in Early Access on Steam, offering a 2D exploration game that's a spinoff of the Touhou series. Here's a trailer with a look at gameplay. Here's word on the game and the Early Access edition:
The protagonist is popular Touhou Project character Suika Ibuki. It has been some time since the last Hakurei Shrine Festival and Suika decides that it is the perfect time for her to have a little rampage around Gensokyo. This work is the first game made by developer tea_basira and in a bid to receive feedback from users around the world to improve the game, it will go into early access this month. The early access version will constitute approximately 15% of the content of the 1.0 release and development will continue towards full release in stages while taking user feedback into account.

Unbridled, satisfying combo action
Although she may appear cute, Suika is a demon and therefore extremely powerful. Use her abilities to unleash devastating physical attacks, ranged attacks and counters and string them together in satisfying combos. Also Suika has the ability to control density, using her Density charge and Sparsity charge you can add effects to her combos to make them even more devastating. If you get the hang of her combos it is even possible to deliver over 100 hit combos. Furthermore, this game has the Touhou Project games classic game mechanic of Graze dodging. Using this you can dash through enemy attacks and execute counters by circling around behind them or avoid otherwise unavoidable attacks.

Out of the Blue

Today is Columbus Day, which, despite widespread misgivings about this history this represents, is one of just 10 federal holidays here in the U.S., and one of only three that honor individuals (the other two being George Washington and Martin Luther King, Jr.). Being the second Monday in October, today is also Thanksgiving in Canada. This has me feeling thankful for Canadian Bacon, Canadian Club, and, of course Canada Dry. Here's hoping you are feeling thankful too, ya hosers!
