“As a team, we are incredibly proud of the game we have made and excited that players around the world can finally get their hands on it,” said Chris Smith, GRID Game Director at Codemasters. “We set out with three goals; make a game that puts the player in control and allows them to play their way. For the game to feel alive and celebrate the drama of motorsport. Lastly, make a game that is for everyone; to have the best handling which appeals to both core racing fans and casual players. Riot Sues Riot Squad; Riots to Ensue?

A lawsuit filed in a California District Court by Riot Games accuses esports organization Riot Squad of copyright infringement over their name (thanks Polygon). Riot Games, of course, is the creator of League of Legends, one of the most popular titles in esports. Riot Squad was formed this year, and fields teams in a few different competitive games, though League is not one of them. Riots have not actually ensued, but it seems that Riot Games thinks this choice of name is not a riot (LOL). At least we presume this to be the case: Polygon contacted them about the legal action, but they declined to comment. Here's a bit from their court filing:
With full knowledge of Riot and its trademark rights in the words RIOT and RIOT GAMES in connection with video games and esports, Defendant Riot Squad Esports LLC (“Riot Squad”) has unfairly and unlawfully adopted and exploited the RIOT brand name in connection with its marketing, advertising, and promotion of a nascent esports organization that it claims was “founded by gamers, for gamers.” Riot Squad apparently hopes and intends that by its use of the RIOT brand name, consumers will mistakenly believe that its esports organization is in some manner associated with, sponsored or endorsed by, or otherwise affiliated with Riot and its hugely popular products and services.

Through its conduct, Riot Squad has willfully created circumstances whereby members of the public are likely to be led to incorrectly believe that the goods offered by Riot Squad are authorized by, sponsored by, or affiliated with Riot, its well-known marks, and the products provided thereunder. The Court should enjoin any further use of the RIOT name by Riot Squad, and Riot should be compensated for the damage done to its brand as a result of Riot Squad’s conduct.

Op Ed

Kotaku - PC Game Install Sizes Are Ballooning And I'm Scared.
"Unlike on consoles, PC games aren’t as constrained by disc space, either, so developers can go a little wilder with how much space games take up. So yeah, Modern Warfare and Red Dead Redemption 2 will probably look best on PC, but you might want to do some spring (fall?) cleaning before you buy them. Or you can just be like me, continue treating your hard drive like your messy bedroom, and resign yourself to only installing one game at a time. Also, the embrace of the void."

Out of the Blue

We swore off most fast-food joints many years ago, but curiosity got the best of us, and yesterday MrsBlue and I stopped into a Burger King to try this Impossible Whopper they've been hyping like crazy. This turned out to be pretty much as advertised, as if you didn't tell me this had no beef I'd have thought it was just a regular Whopper. That is pretty cool, though I don't think this will turn us into regular customers: The place was filthy, the Whopper was a slopper, haphazardly strewn with scant quantities of the trimmings, and they took advantage of our interest by gouging us for close to seven dollars a burger. Not that we were expecting a gourmet meal and tablecloths, but novelty aside, it was a pretty shabby experience.
