Star Trek Online Awakening Launches

Awakening is now live in Star Trek Online, offering the chance to be woke by the latest expansion for the Trekkie MMORPG. This is just the Windows edition, word is the update will beam down to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 next month. A Launch Trailer introduces the add-on, which features Anthony Rapp recreating his role as Lt. Commander Paul Stamets from Star Trek: Discovery. Here's a Captain's Log on the new content:

During Age of Discovery, players were introduced to J’Ula, sister of T’Kuvma and matriarch of the Klingon House of Mo’Kai. This savage leader waged a war against the Federation of Planets at Starbase 1 and inadvertently transported both fleets to the year 2410, using stolen Mycelial spore technology. It is now up to Star Trek Online’s bravest captains to track down J’Ula and ensure that she doesn’t corrupt the entire Mycelial Network. In order to accomplish this mission, players will require the expertise of an astromycologist, a hologram of the legendary Lieutenant Commander Paul Stamets from the U.S.S. Discovery (voiced by Anthony Rapp). Under his guidance, captains will navigate their way through the elaborate Mycelial Network to reverse the damage caused by the Klingons and face off against another fungal based enemy who has returned - the Elachi.

These events all take place in a brand new featured episode and across five added patrols for Star Trek Online: Awakening. Today’s PC update also introduces an exciting new TFO, a limited-time Mycelial Event that allows players to earn the new T6 Elachi ship, and revamped UI/Systems updates. A full list of features now available with Awakening include:

  • Brand New Featured Episode - Captains hailing from all of the game’s factions can participate in the new featured episode “Beneath the Skin.” Players will depend on a hologram of Commander Paul Stamets from the U.S.S Discovery to safely guide them through the Mycelial Network.
  • Five New Patrols – Players can embark on a mission with Stamets and Star Trek Online luminaries like Lukari Captain Kuumaarke to close the rifts caused by the Klingons.
  • New Task Force Operation – Up to five players can participate in this special ground TFO against the Elachi, which tasks them with shutting down probes that threaten to destroy the Mycelial Network.
  • Mycelial Event – Captains who participate in this special event can earn the new T6 Elachi ship by playing through the new featured episode, patrols and TFO throughout the next month.
  • New Event UI – The dev team has revamped the Event UI to make it easier for players to access new special events.
  • Patrol Systems – A new tab has been added to the PvE system, which allows captains to immediately enter selected patrols and gain bonus rewards.
  • New Starships – In just two weeks, players will be able to purchase the new Cross Faction Intel Science Bundle, which includes the Klingon Balth and the U.S.S. Somerville, a starship first introduced in the Star Trek Comics from IDW Publishing.

A Knight's Quest Announced

Publisher Curve Digital and developer Sky 9 Games announce A Knight's Quest, calling this a modern take on the classic adventure that's coming to Windows and consoles this autumn. We have an Official Gameplay Trailer to show off the game's Unreal Engine 4 graphics, and all the details are in the text below:

Funny, fresh and genuinely breathtaking, A Knight’s Quest is a thoroughly modern take on classic adventures of old, as players will discover when it bursts onto PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch this Fall, priced £19.99 / €24.99 / $24.99.

Dispatching enemies with a stylish thrust of the sword, rail-grinding across huge chasms high above tumbling waterfalls, wall-running over perilous traps or solving puzzles by controlling the elements – it’s all in a day’s work for Rusty, videogaming’s newest hero who’ll be making his debut in A Knight’s Quest, an epic adventure heading to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch this Fall.

Daring, debonair, and just a little bit daft, Rusty is a kind-hearted, but clumsy adventurer who accidentally starts a chain of events which threaten to destroy his world. In order to right his wrong, he’ll need to solve mind-bending conundrums, fight challenging enemies, defeat huge bosses and platform his way through a fantastic open world in this lavish take on classic action adventure games.

Our hero begins his adventure with just a trusty sword and basic shield, but he’ll soon unlock ‘Spirit Powers’ – spectacular abilities which have the power to transform not only himself, but also the world around him. At the tap of a button, he can harness the powers of Fire, Ice and Time to devastating effect, using them to conquer enemies in battle or solve environmental challenges.

War Selection Early Access Next Month

Russian developer Glyph Worlds announces War Selection will launch into Early Access on Steam on October 8th, offering a "pseudo-historical" real-time strategy game with support for a 62-player battle royale mode. A new teaser trailer shows how this game spans the stone age through modern times. Here's what they say about the clip: "The new trailer for War Selection features quintessential base-building and management gameplay inspired by the early RTS games of the 90s. The improvements within and across the ages will help you get the edge on your opponents as you struggle to secure your peoples' future." Here's more on the game:

War Selection starts players off in the Stone Age during each game while the player chooses its path to victory by advancing through the eras as you modify your culture to your play style. Each variety of era has its own technological upgrades and visual style based on the culture it comes from. For example, advancing through the Iron Age as Asia confers different bonuses than going through as a European empire. These options let players customize the way they play and choose the strategy that suits them. Single and multiplayer modes add variety to gameplay, especially the Battle Royale mode. A massive 62 players will be supported, with the smallest empires being automatically knocked out of the game as time progresses, forcing constant conflict as the pressure to expand continues to build.

War Selection was created in Glyph Worlds' custom-built GlyphEngine. The proprietary engine was developed with online strategy and MOBA features in mind to support a tremendous amount of active objects as well as the staggering 64-player multiplayer games.

"We can’t wait for players to get their hands on our game come October. We are huge fans of RTS games and we set out to make the kind of game we love to play ourselves. I hope that players will pick up on that energy we put into the game; our passion for the RTS genre." says Roman Budkeev, CEO of Glyph Worlds.

Key Features

  • Tons of Units and Buildings - More than 100 different buildings and 200 different kinds of units (Land, Sea) are present across the ages.
  • Customize Your Culture - Choose which culture you will align with as you advance through the ages, carving your own distinct path through history. Begin in the Stone Age, and specialize in European or Asian cultures as the game progresses to unlock specialize technologies, buildings, and units.
  • Massive Multiplayer Wars - Over 62 players on a single match leads to true chaos as wars break out all over the map.
  • Varied Modes and Competitive Styles - Against players, fight in free-for-alls, team battles, or massive battle royales.

Stalin vs. Martians 4: New Video and Public Demo

For those not content with just watching this alternate history action game, they are also offering the playable Gamescom build of the game as a free demo for anyone who submits their email address on the official website. Here's their humorous explanation:

KREMLINCORP Entertainment GmbH officially announces that while you were drowning in your sins, we prepared a new gameplay video of Stalin vs. Martians 4.

But there's more. We offer a playable version of the game we recently showed at Gamescom. Since not everybody was visiting this magnificent event, it is only fair that we share the build with everyone interested. The Gamescom demo includes 2 missions, you can test the core gameplay, use 8 weapons and a number of special abilities, and have a first-hand experience of Stalin vs. Martians 4.

(Well, since we used this build at Gamescom, it is more like a second-hand experience. But you don't always get to be the first, so deal with it.)

Anyone can leave an email address and get the playable build next week after visiting this page on our website: http://stalinvsmartians.com/demo

Once you get the demo, you can play it, send it to your friends, stream it, post videos, take pictures, use it, abuse it, etc. But you can't say mean things about the game. Seriously, it is not polite.

SHORT INFO ABOUT THE GAME:
Stalin vs. Martians 4 is a massively soloplayer prequel to Stalin vs. Martians 5. The game tells a story of the conflict between Stalin and the Martians. It has a narrative-based story with a plot and rich dialogues of humorous nature, which beautifully highlight the story's narrative-based narrative and plot.

We're 100% sure that Stalin vs. Martians 4 most probably will be released next year.

We also remind you that the game also has features like such and such.

Jesus, I can't do this anymore, please send help.

Out of the Blue

I posted a couple of pictures of the Duckies yesterday, and got a suggestion to share them here, so I have. There are 14 of them in the blurry-ish shot of them swimming, and there were 14 outside this morning, so it seems like one of the newcomers may have earned her stripes.

On a far more serious note, I see today is World Suicide Prevention Day, an annual campaign that's now more than 15 years old. Every day can use more attention to this public health problem, so this is certainly a worthy cause. This is brought home by the facts noted in this flier which says that one person dies by suicide every 40 seconds, suicide is the leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds, and, most importantly, these are preventable deaths. It offers tips on how to deal with suicidal thoughts in yourself or in others, offering a call to action on how we can all be a part of helping with this. Here's hoping you are fortunate enough not to be dealing with suicidal thoughts in yourself or anyone around you, but if you know someone struggling, this offers thoughts on how to help, and if you are struggling yourself, please reach out.
