Neverwinter: Uprising Rises

Perfect World Entertainment now offers Uprising, a new free expansion for Neverwinter, their Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG. This includes a new playable race that's only available to VIP members for the first two weeks as well as an all-new 10-player endgame trial, new PvP content, a "recrafted" early game experience, and more. Here's the Official Launch Trailer, and here's more:
Illithid, aka Mind Flayers, have subjugated the gith for eons, treating them as slaves and converting them to otherworldly creatures against their will. Players join the conflict as it erupts in Halaster Blackcloak’s domain, drawing his malice. Along this path to a wild and explosive battle of wills against the Mad Mage, players explore deeper into Undermountain than before, leading to a magic portal that transports adventurers to the gith base of Stardock on asteroid above Toril. Back in Protector’s Enclave, the untold wealth adventurers have earned in Undermountain results in renovations for both the heart of Neverwinter and the Early Game experience. Learn more about the changes coming with Neverwinter: Uprising below:

  • All-New Gith Race - Become the rebellion! The new race of psionic warriors is available to VIP members the first two weeks following Uprising’s launch and to all PC players for the following two weeks. This cycle will repeat on console only when Uprising launches on October 1.
  • Uprising Storyline - Engage the illitihid in a struggle that will take adventurers from the depths of Undermountain to a secret gith asteroid base in orbit above Toril.
  • Tower of the Mad Mage Trial - Enter Halaster Blackcloak’s private library to match wits and powers in an all-new, Endgame 10-Player Trial.
  • Protector’s Enclave & Early Game Zone Revamp - Adventurers returning from their questing to the south may notice some changes to the heart of Neverwinter. Vicious Circle Comes Around

Rooster Teeth Games announces the release of Vicious Circle, as their "uncooperative" multiplayer shooter has come full circle in the under two weeks since they launched it into open beta testing. The Launch Trailer shows off the concept and some gameplay, and the announcement rounds out the news:
This over-the-top comic- and sci-fi-inspired game features the voice talent of some of Rooster Teeth’s most notable personalities and will be updated with new mercs, monsters, maps, modes, gadgets, skins, events and more with free Seasonal Battle Passes in the coming months.

In each round of Vicious Circle, one player is selected to become a massive, unstoppable creature with a simple goal: kill all four mercenaries. Mercs can team up to survive and are formidable when working together, so use your powerful abilities to pick them off one by one. If a merc goes down, they’re not necessarily out: dead mercenaries spawn creepy beings called Little Dippers that let players possess the bodies of other mercs, giving them another chance at victory.

Only one player can make it out with the loot, so the key to success in Vicious Circle is playing dirty whenever you can. Use your gadgets and the environment to mess with your adversaries: lock doors to slow them down, trap them in rooms with the monster, and suck loot out from under them. Do you join forces against the monster hunting you down, or sneak away to gain the upper hand while everyone is busy? The choice is yours, but remember — what goes around comes around!

On Friday, August 16, from 3PM - 9PM CDT, Rooster Teeth will host the Vicious Summer livestream event on and to celebrate Vicious Circle’s release. Vicious Summer is six hours of live gaming shenanigans and comedy featuring a variety of online gaming talent separated into five teams to compete against each other Olympics-style. Competitions include playing Vicious Circle, an eating competition, Bob "Sauce" Ross challenge, Vicious Beer Pong, and other fun, outdoor summer games. Think Double Dare meets Guts, with just a little Reservoir Dogs... plus video games.

Exception Released

Exception is now available for Windows and consoles, with the PC edition of this action platformer offered on Steam. The game is an exception to the perception that game development requires a team, as it's the output of one-person studio Traxmaster Software. Word is: "Drawing inspiration from arcade video games, Exception blends old-school retro feel through sleek visuals and a groovy synthwave soundtrack with a modern take on classic platforming via a unique level shifting mechanic that creates thrilling action platforming mayhem." The Launch Trailer offers a look at its retro/futuristic graphics, and here's more:
“After five years in development I am stoked to finally release Exception for everyone to enjoy,” said Will Traxler, Founder of Traxmaster Software. “The shifting environment in Exception offers players a new way to experience action platforming while the whole game aesthetic harkens back to arcade nostalgia.”

In Exception an old woman’s computer has been taken over by ‘Titan’, a totalitarian virus hijacking the operating system. Players take on the role of a hero who must vanquish the malicious invader that is set to destroy the system before it crashes. Using easy controls, traverse through more than 120 timed byte-sized levels, overcoming various obstacles and enemies as quickly as possible to secure a place on one of the online leaderboards catered to different playstyles. Whether the player chooses an evasion tactic or straight up combat, Exception’s classic platforming experience features an innovative level shifting mechanic, which spices up the gameplay and reveals secret pathways and collectables. Finally, players can enjoy over two hours of futuresynth soundtrack from nine top artists in the genre, including Waveshaper and Kalax, that complement Exception’s neon-cyberpunk aesthetic.

Die Young Next Month; Prologue Available

Developer/publisher IndieGala announces September 13th for Die Young, their upcoming Windows survival game. They stress this is not a traditional survival game with supply scavenging and based building, but rather an action game where you must escape from danger as quickly as possible. To give a sense of what this involves, a free Die Young: Prologue is available on Steam, and here's a trailer from when this was released about a month ago. Here's a description of the game:
Kidnapped for no clear reason to a dazzling yet mysterious island on the Mediterranean Sea, a young girl has to find a way to escape. Armed with only her wits, agility, and the will to stay alive, she must make her getaway or Die Young.

Die Young is an open world, dynamic action adventure presented in first-person perspective. You awaken, on a picturesque 12 sq km island in the Mediterranean, buried alive and left for dead. Starving and dehydrated, your struggle to stay alive has just begun. Jump, climb, take advantage of your athletic and parkour skills to overcome the dangers and wildness of nature!

  • Stay Alive. This is not a "classic" survival game. If you aim to spend many days and nights looking for resources or build a shelter or a fortress, this will not be possible here. Your main goal is to stay alive. Your only purpose is to escape. As soon as possible. Stay hydrated in the hot Mediterranean summer, looking for a way to leave.
  • Equip and Fight. Stripped of everything of value down to the shoes on your feet, you have to make a run for it. You have no chance of escaping relying on your wits alone. Search for items and combat equipment that can help you survive the nightmare.
  • Explore. Explore the island and find out more about its enigmatic dwellers, ancient ruins, dark mines and caves. Uncover the awful truth behind the quiet, bucolic life of the island.
  • Escape. The astonishing beauty of the natural landscape hides deadly threats and foes. Fighting your way out is hopeless. Run, jump, climb, and leave those who want you dead behind.

Nerve-racking and brimming with suspense from the moment you press start, Die Young is an immersive thriller that will take you on an unforgettable dash for freedom and survival.

DayZ Going Into Rehab Over Aussie Ban

Following the news that DayZ is now Refused Classification in Australia because of the game's inclusion of marijuana, Kotaku Australia has word Bohemia Interactive is removing the drug from all versions of the game. This is so that DayZ can again be sold down under, and so that Aussie players can still play jointly with gamers from the rest of the world. Here's word:
Bohemia Interactive confirmed to Kotaku Australia late Monday evening that DayZ would be getting modified globally to comply with the Classification Board's requirements. Bohemia could have opted to exclude Australians from DayZ's next major release to give themselves time to work out another solution, but in an email the studio explained that they did not want Aussie gamers to be separated from the rest of the world.

"We don’t want to separate Australian players from the rest of the world, since many people play cross-region," the studio said. "We love that DayZ is the place to meet with friends and experience the game without dramatic regional lag. We don’t want to change that."

"At the moment, we are editing the global version of DayZ so it will fit into the Board’s requirements. The key objective is to keep the gameplay as authentic as it was, so players are not affected by this change."

No Borderlands 3 Preloads

A tweet from Tim Sweeney acknowledges that preloading Borderlands 3 will not be available through the Epic Games Store. PC Gamer notes the oddity of this, as the Epic Games Store Roadmap on Trello marks "Enable Preloading" as a feature that is already available. But in another response, the Epic Games CEO explains that trying to preload a "blockbuster" like the upcoming action/RPG sequel is "complicated":
I’m sorry, we won’t have support for preloading in the Borderlands release timeframe.

It’s Complicated. We’ve released support for file preloading which is sufficient for some games, but we aren’t certain it’s up to the demands of a blockbuster like Borderlands.

Emberlight Launches

Emberlight is now out of beta, and Quarter Onion Games' Roguelike dungeon crawler is officially available for Windows, macOS, and Linux on Steam. Alternatively, the Windows version alone can also be picked up through Discord or They promise this offers a twist on the genre: "Emberlight provides a unique take on both roguelike and turn-based games," explain Quarter Onion cofounders William Phelps and Michael Hahn. "Absorbing abilities from fallen enemies and finding that preferred mix for the player’s styles makes the game is easy to learn, but hard to master. Then when it’s all said and done, corruption throws a curveball into the mix that messes up all your planning and makes you have to react on the fly." The Launch Trailer, narrated by industry mainstay Lani Minella, shows of the concept and gameplay. Here's more on what to expect:
About Emberlight
Emberlight is a true roguelike dungeon crawler, set in a world where the Gods have given you a great gift - and a great curse. Explore procedurally generated dungeons as a Knight of the Ember Order. Conquer the quests set out before your party, and uncover the lore of the land.

As a Knight of the Ember Order, you have the ability to absorb the abilities used by your enemies. Every ability used by enemies has a chance to be learned. This allows customization of each character towards whichever goals you have. But each absorbed ability has a cost...

Every absorbed ability will corrupt your soul. You will slowly lose yourself to evil as the quest progresses. This expresses itself in unstable corruption traits which leads to metamorphosis into an evil being (such as a lich). And you will lose yourself to the corruption...

Each run will last between 30-60 minutes. After completing the quest, the most corrupted will kill off his former allies in an epic battle. This corrupted being will then begin attracting evil around them and will act as a boss in a future quest once their influence has expanded enough. They will have all the powers you have provided them during the run, providing a never-ending challenge in future runs. For every corrupted boss, a stronger party is required to defeat them. And the cycle repeats......forever?
